1501  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Jops Siffert - Dec 7 on: December 04, 2012, 12:04:32 AM +0000
THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES

The F2 season draws to a close at Jops Siffert, a fantasy track in the Swiss mountains as a tribute to Jo Siffert. Like so many of the legends from his era, Jo was killed racing at Brands Hatch in 1971.

The championships in both Divisions are pretty much decided but that doesn’t stop us going racing.
The top three runners in each division are restricted as follows.
LIGHTS Hristo – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Goran  & Evil - Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.
HEAVY Phil Thornton – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Rainier & Dave Cutis - Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper. (Hint to Dave C – most people would not take the BT14 by choice).

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation in the red zone which will be to the apex of the Scherrer corner. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for Season 23 UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points. Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

1502  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Privateers Trophy (67) - Mexico City - Dec 2 on: December 03, 2012, 11:32:14 AM +0000
Mexico has never been a great track for me. Survived with one nasty spin & blowing an engine on the second to last lap – being the last race of season though it best to take a SnG & cross the finish line.
It’s been one of the best 67 seasons that I have participated in – partly because the grids have been nearly full.
Congratulations to Rainier for taking the championship, pushed all the way by Phil & had they been a bit more consistent Hendy & Cookie were / would have been up there.
Also, well done to the Black Night Racing Team, Rainier, Dave Curtis & Fabio. Having four drivers regularly competing probably gave us a bit of an advantage.
Whilst new mods keep arriving there is something very special about these original  67 monsters & the challenge of keeping all that power on track (most of the time).

1504  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Novices Trophy (65) - Monaco - Nov 27 on: November 28, 2012, 02:02:24 PM +0000
Ultimately, the handicaps are Paul’s choice - as Divisonal Moderator. Based on the relative performance of the drivers over the course of a season. Please remember that handicaps are not a perfect solution but are used to even out the competition across the field for the whole season.
The Novices title is down to a shootout between Rob & Johnny. Rob holds a points advantage, although that may reduce a bit when the two lowest scores are discarded. Johnny probably would have been closer if his computer hadn’t sabotaged his earlier races.
At Monza I would expect Giovanni & Al to be quick.
My personal view – as a driver – is to give everyone a free choice at Monza. Putting Johnny & Rob in a slower chassis might mean they might start behind a slower driver in a faster car & get tangled up in a Lap 1 incident.
1505  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Novices Trophy (65) - Monaco - Nov 27 on: November 27, 2012, 11:19:11 PM +0000
Very poor prformance.
Never really hooked up a good lap in qually but no bad thing to start near the back.
Lap 1 was a pigs breakfast at the Virage hairpin but managed to creep through the wreackage. OK first lap but with Nigel hot on my tail. Lap 2 Nigel nudged me into Tabac. Terrible place to be facing the wrong way & a Reset may have been a better plan. Trying to do a 3 point turn as quick as poss I ended up reversiing across Phillip's path. Very sorry Phillipe - I should have used the look left button - by the time I heard your engine I was in mid turn. Will be up before the mods for that one.
The car seemed OK apart from scraping the hay bales at Virage as I could not seem to get a full lock. I tried a reset & SnG but still could not turn in properly.
Was becoming more of a chore than fun so I took an early bath.
Never have liked this track (maybe not entirely suited to the Novices) but looks much better with the V Rocks upgrade & plenty of time to enjoy at my lumbering pace.
At least the next round is a proper race track.

1506  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Bremgarten - Nov 23 on: November 24, 2012, 01:03:17 PM +0000
The championships seem to have been sorted out with one round to go.
The handicapping was something of an experiment because this is the first outing for F2 cars. I agree that the Ferrari & BT14 were a bit too much of a disadvantage & (assuming F2's return in Season 24 - which is quite probable) then the handicapping will be a little more relaxed. Phils suggestion about restricting the championship leader to the Fez & BT14 where they have a large points advantage has some merits. Looking at the world records for Enna the Cooper is the next slowest, both Lolas & Lotus the next step down, after that the chassis are quite comparable, other than the Matra's which have a bit more pace.
On the whole I think its been a good series. The handicapping probably contributed to both Dave Curtis & Francesco picking up their first wins in GPL & the Ferrari didnt stop Hristo from taking the Lights.

LATE UPDATE
Due to a glitch on UKGPL7 all drivers will race on UKGPL3 - its still 2 races - results will be split
1508  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Bremgarten - Nov 23 on: November 21, 2012, 05:57:16 PM +0000
A general reminder. Bremgarten is a narrow track with very limited run off areas. The first corner is a rather tricky right hander followed by a left hand kink. Please try & avoid overshooting the turn or an accident in T1. Following cars should be prepared for the leading cars to brake early or heavily. It's NOT a rolling start but try not to ruin anyone elses race before we get started.
Tip 2 - ignore the lap records at the top of this thread - very demoralising for us mortals.
1509  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 23 1967 F2 Championship Registration on: November 20, 2012, 10:04:02 PM +0000
Hi chaps,
With your good will permitting, I would jolly well like to drive the Cooper T77 for the next and final round at Monaco, please.  Smiley
Hi Andy,
I think your post is in the wrong place. This thread is for the 1967 Formual 2 series. Cooper T77 & the Monaco race are for the 1965 Mod. We currently have  3 separate 1965 divisions (Tuesday nights). If you are the "andy miller" on GPL Rank then you really should be in our top division - the Season 23 Professionals Trophy.
If you have any more questions let us know.
1510  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Bremgarten - Nov 23 on: November 19, 2012, 10:04:00 PM +0000
THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES

Round nine of the Formula 2 European Tour, is the first of a double header in Switzerland. Bremgarten was built as a motor cycle track in 1931 to the north of Bern. The circuit itself had no true straight, instead being a collection of high-speed corners. From the outset, it’s tree-lined roads, often poor light conditions and changes in road surface made for what was acknowledged to be a very dangerous circuit, especially in the wet. Bremgarten has not hosted an official motorsports event since 1955, when spectator racing sports were banned in Switzerland.

The basic download has fairly poor graphics qualify but there is very good upgrade in SRMZ.

Bremgarten is probably the most difficult circuit of the F2 season & the driving skill of the championship leaders should mean that the handicap chassis are less of a handicap. The top three runners in each division are restricted as follows.
LIGHTS Hristo – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Evil Clive & Goran - Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.
HEAVY Rainier – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Phil Thornton & Dave Cutis - Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour

Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation in the red zone which will be to the apex of the Tenni corner. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for Season 23 UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here

A very demanding track, you get a long time between turns to think about your brake point but there seemed to be very little margin for error, probably because the approach speed - 201mph in my Eagle.
As anticipated the Eagle was the chassis of choice at this track - well done to those brave enough to take a different car.
I was rather cautious lap 1 & lost a few places but picked them up again where the less cautious had incidents. When the race settled down I was in fourth which became third when Andreas went to far sideways in the last braking zone. Happy to have held on for the last step of the podium, I knew Jonny was faster than me but he ran out of laps near the end.
Well done to Phil who was way in front when Hendy discoed. Also team mate Rainer for taking second.
We go to Mexicio to see who takes the title.

The Enna moderation has been amended.
Please note that if there is a delay in taking a SnG please file a report - it makes the moderating a bit easier.

Hi Paul,
There is a line in the Eagles song Hotel California "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave" - which rather sums up GPL.
UKGPL is now running Season 23 - just a couple of rounds left. If you are up to speed then you are welcome to join any of the leagues. Otherwise there are usually a few fun races staged over the Christmas break.
You might want to try the new Formula 2 Mod on Friday's - might be an easier introduction than jumping straight into the 67 F1 beasts.
PS. If you do register for any Season 23 series please leave a message in the thread so the moderator can process your vote,
