Paul,
Whilst I appreaciate marital duties must (on occasion) take precedent - can you or someone (Rainier?) who understand UKGPL3 better than me start the server. I can manage T7.

THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES

The Formula 2 European Tour reaches the half-way point with a trip to familiar territory, with Silverstone hosting the Britsh leg of the series.

Handicapping applies to the top three drivers in each Division.
LIGHTS Hristo – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Evil Clive & Al Hellar -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.
HEAVY Rog UK – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Rainier  & Phil Thornton -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour

Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone which will be to the entry into Stowe corner. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for Season 23 UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series  for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points. Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

1549  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Goodwood Revival soon on: September 17, 2012, 10:02:37 PM +0100
That was a massively enjoyable weekend. We dined on burgers, bacon rolls & beer. We breathed castrol & burnt rubber. Our eardrums were blasted - 45 minutes of the Cobras was more audio overload than the front row at a rock concert. Our eyes were mesmerised by the on track machinery. Those cars might cost hundreds of thousands but it didn't stop the drivers going all out - with several spins to prove it. Highlights were 1930's grand prix race where drivers battled with steering wheels the size of cart wheels to hurl through the apexes. The real attraction was the 65 cars - seeing the real life versions of the cars that we thrash round circuits every other week - but these guys had no Shift R. The special treat was a display of the Silver Arrows - Mercedes legendary machines from '37 to '39 that blitzed the opposition - & much more.
Even the fickle British weather was kind to us.
The best part was, however, was meeting up with the faces behind the sim cars.
I imagine most of the 2012 contingent will be going next year. For those that didn't you have a whole year to save up & plan.
1550  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Privateers Trophy (67) - Snetterton - Sep 16 on: September 16, 2012, 11:13:42 PM +0100
What a bizzare race.
Had very little opportunity to practice, but learned the track for a mid-season F2 race. Biggest problem was that I could not find any reference point to brake at the end of the Home Straight (after hairpin) every lap was a guess & I either braked too early or needed the assistance of the banking to stop. If I could work that out then a 1.27 lap would have been possible.
When the Race started NO GREEN BUTTON - the whole field moved off leaving me to press random buttons - then suddenly I'm in the pit lane, half a lap down. The track having been my worst enemy started to become my best friend as it wiped out the opposition car by car. From 17th to 5th - by survival. If had a few spins - several at the end of the Home straight - but nothing that damaged the car or needed a shift R.
Congrats to team mates David (Rainier) for first place & Dave C - as far as I could work out you should have had 3rd spot until the last lap. Also to Phil & Andreas - fellow survivors of Snetteron - & they did it in rather more style than me.
1551  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Novices Trophy (65) - Spa (1947-78) - Sep 11 on: September 12, 2012, 01:46:41 PM +0100
Fortunately all my offs were during qualifying, the race was consistent 3.43/42’s. Congratulations to Al – convincing win. Commiserations to Johnny who always seems to have a computer issue. I inherited 3rd place about lap 5, managed to keep Giovanni in sight but was gradually slipping back rather than closing. The last few laps were a bit nervy as Johnny progressively took lumps out of my lead, but he needed one more lap.
Welcome to Boggy – our latest recruit. You will get faster by doing three things; practice, more practice & … extra practice.
1552  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Novices Trophy (65) - Spa (1947-78) - Sep 11 on: September 10, 2012, 03:03:07 PM +0100
Hmmm. I should be quicker in the mighty Honda - topping out at about 168 down to Stavelot but I always end up slow coming out of there. What splits you getting Al? I am 57/51/52/61 ish.
I can get the BT11 up to 170 on the entry to Stavelot. Similar split times Paul, but might do 51/60 in sectors 3 & 4. Theoretically I should get better top speeds in other cars - but I can't.
1553  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 23 (2012) Formula 2 Trophy - Montjuich Park - Sep 7 on: September 08, 2012, 11:35:43 PM +0100
Major computer problems last night.
Don't think there was a problem with the track - just my PC hard drive rattling away doing anything other than GPL. I started several quallifying laps only to get screen freezes - apologies to anyone I may have unintentionally blocked.
A major screen freeze just before the race started meant I was unable to join. Overall, very frustrating as I my practice times were good enough to compete for a podium - but not threat to Phil.

To the best of my knowledge there were no particular problems with the  pre-season test race & 67 championship races at Montjuic. I had a disco at Watkins for the mid-season 69X race - so even papy originals aren't immune. I suggest we keep to the advertised schedule & go ahead. FINGERS CROSSED!

THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES

Round 4 restarts the Formula 2 European Tour. We stay in Iberia, crossing from Portugal to Spain for the classic street circuit at Motjuich Park.  The circuit was the venue for the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix from 1950 to 1968, and then hosted F1 cars on even-numbered years until 1976. The last F1 Grand Prix held there in 1975, is notable for a fatal crash that led to Formula One abandoning the venue.

The best description I can think of for turn 1 is “vicious”.

Handicapping now applies to the top three drivers in each Division.
LIGHTS Evil Clive – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Hristo & Mark Barresi -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.
HEAVY Rainier – Ferrari or Brabham BT14. Rog UK  & Phil Thornton -  Ferrari, Brabham BT14 or Cooper.

The series will be run on two separate grids; The Lights (on T7) & the Heavys (on UKGPL 3). Please ensure you join the correct race. The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 European Tour

Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation  in the red zone which will be to the exit of the Vias corner. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

1556  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 23 Privateers Trophy Registration on: August 27, 2012, 11:46:08 PM +0100
Hi guys,

I used to race here a few years ago but then my PC died. Now I'm back and raring to go. May I please join the Privateers mid-season?

Do you use iGOR or VROC and where do I find passwords? Race thread on the day of the race?

Cheers.
James - you are now registered for the Privateers. Good time to join as we are just coming to the end of the summer break. The season restarts at Zandvoort on 02/09. If you remember from last time this division uses a tokens system for choice of chassis. Hope to see you on track next week.
1557  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: F2 Fun Race - Friday 24th August - Tulln Langenlebarn on: August 25, 2012, 06:22:37 PM +0100
Quite an entertaining track - but you have to be pretty precise with the brake points - haybales waiting in ambush to punish a small mistake. After a few laps the bumps didn't seem so bad - but I run a higher set up than the default.
Did anyone have connection or frame rate issues? I had some minor lag on the last lap although Natan had some issues with frame rates.

There is an option to use Tulln in place of either Bremgarten or Jops in the Formula II championship but I think we might levae this one for another season.

The GPL Rank time for Tulln is 1.04?? no idae how you can achieve that.

Joseph,
If original F1 works but F2 is crashing it might be a problem with the Rasteriser (check box option in GEM). If I remember correctly F2 won't work with Open GL but is fine with Open GLv2. If you don't have an option for Open GLv2 then you'll have to download it.
1560  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: F2 Fun Race - Friday 24th August - Tulln Langenlebarn on: August 23, 2012, 04:38:07 PM +0100
Joseph,
Wouldn't worry about VROC - all UKGPL races are run through IGOR.
