2011  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Novices Trophy - Silverstone (GP 1952-73) - Jun 23 on: June 28, 2009, 01:23:48 AM +0100
Only just got the replay - hence delay in responding.

Even more championship points to add to the ones I got at Mosport. At this rate might make double figures for the season.
Beers after work are not recommended on race nights. Had been dipping into the 1.35's all week but could only qually with a 1.36. Had a couple of customary Muppet moments but fortunately found some clear space for the rejoins. Only incident of any note was a collision with Graham on lap 13. I was in front & pretty much on the racing line i.e. don't think it was my error - may have been warp.  Took a detour across the grass but no major inconvenience.
PS. I'm with Norm on the nicknames - from now on you shall be "No Chance" but top marks have to go to "Teddy Teabagger". Missed Glyn at the last couple of races - his post race commentaries are well worth reading.
On to Monza - one of my favourites as it only has two real braking sequences - ideal for the man with Nobrakes.
Bill.
2012  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 17 - Mid Season Review on: June 18, 2009, 11:06:31 PM +0100
Just realised its taken best part of an hour to wade through this thread. Good luck on digesting this all Phil.

I'm very new to Sim racing - you only need to look at some of my lap times. Nevertheless it is a huge amount of fun.

One of the big challenges is getting the various programmes & patches to run on your PC. Several of the more experienced guys have been very helpful in sorting me out. If we do pick up new people it might help if they can be directed a mentor who would help with the dumb & not so dumb questions & a bit of general encouragement.

65 seems to be very popular. With my limited skills a third divsion would be interesting but, unless we can attract new drivers, I'm not sure we would have enough entrants. Recent races in the Novs have only had around 15 cars on the grid. Also if there are only two functional servers how would this work?

I've also recently signed up for Clubmans. Now I am VROC compatible I might start a race. If this was combined with D.1 I'd probably drop it. Just be far too intimidating. If this is replaced with a 69 league then I don't see this as a problem.

No particluar views on handicapping. If someone is quicker than you - get better or put up with it. I can, however, see that it makes the championships more interesting. For me its not really an issue.

On the Moderator question I guess this is quite time consuming so I'd support any initiative that makes the job easier. There might be the occasional borderline decision but thats just part of it. It can't be any worse than some of the FIA's decisions.

On the Server issue - should we try running some off season fun races off of home PC's?

Minor apology for my rant yesterday. Thanks for the guidance Phil.

I managed to track down the guidance on core-ini settings. They were fine & not the problem.

Big thanks to John Roberts. Problem was the bandwidth patch which needed to be reset. So simple when you know how!

All seems to be up & running now.

2014  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 17 Clubman's Cup Registration on: June 15, 2009, 12:13:24 AM +0100
Sorry about my no show tonight. Have decided VROC is a pile of shite. First it removed my Pribluda - spent hours trying to recover it. More importantly I can't join races due to a bandwidth mismatch. Have followed the topic on UKGPL ( Steve B1rD 26 Feb 09) with no joy. Also screwed up my connections through IGOR, which were fine before I put this shite on my machine. Will probably get it sorted at some stage. Why if GPL so bloody complicated?
2015  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 17 Clubman's Cup Registration on: June 14, 2009, 03:29:01 AM +0100
Very late entry I know ...

After blundering around for the 1st season in novice '65 class I thought I'd try my hand with the '67 beasties. Reason for the extra late registration is I've spend far too long trying to sett up VROC & then recovering Pribula.
Assuming everything works I'll join the thread for Mosport tomorrow & see if I get a dispenation to drive - on the basis its better to fill the grid & gives the regulars overtaking practice.
Will be strictly back of the grid but should manage to stay on track most of the time.
Will be running the Cooper.
Billy.
2016  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Novices Trophy - Mosport - Jun 9 on: June 10, 2009, 11:06:32 PM +0100
My debut season was fast turning into a dodgy entry to the Eurovison song contest - Nul points. Race 8 &, at last I have 2 points (at least till the Mods remove them).
The race started in true Novice style with a couple of major pile ups. Starting at 13th on the grid I weaved by way through the carnage to what I think Prib said was 5th. This was too much - had to take a lie down (aka a spin in the sand trap).
After Mike James had overtaken be for about the fourth time I settled in for what is becoming a traditional end of race tussle with Graham. On lap 25 I had to slow up to as a Honda was doing acrobatics across the track, Graham cut across my rear end (no fault inferred) and sent me spinning. I'm really just expalining this as mitgation for what happened next in the Moss hairpin. Had a nasty spin on the entry & ended up pointing in the wrong direction. I think a crafty shift R would have helped but I ended up driving across the track twice. Most cars seemed to get past OK but one car (a Cooper?) did get tagged trying to squeeze past. Apologies to driver concerned.
Had a similar incident at Rouen which the Mods were not to happy about. Might be back to Nul points.
I seem to be a bit less accident prone at Silverstone & Monza.
2017  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Novices Trophy - Kyalami - Mar 31 on: April 01, 2009, 10:41:53 PM +0100
My first finish - in last place but &  2 laps down but that is an improvement.

Qualifying very busy & was over a second down on my best times. Got caught up in the carnage in the start -simply nowhere to go with cars strewn across the track. Ran down into T1 to with 3 wheels. Found some consistency mid race & an excellent battle with HappyAl. He drafted me on the main straight & although I braked early into Crowthorne I rear ended him. (Apologies have been made & accepted). Lost rhythm after that. Being pretty much the slowest guy on track I was mindful to let the faster cars lap me on the straights. Not around for the next round at Imola - shame as it is a great track. Someone else's turn to be at the back of the grid.

Mike,
Thought I'd sent a message to your personal box.
Just need your address. Might take me a few days to get to the post office - can sort out the postage out later. Rather someone gets some use out of this than gathering dust in the loft.
Bill.
2019  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Free wheel on: March 28, 2009, 01:38:26 AM +0000
In a bid to improve my lousy lap times I have invested in a new G25 wheel. Whilst it is a marvellous piece of machinery it does not deliver overnight success. Anyhow, it does mean I have an old, now third hand wheel - a Saitek R440. I was never able to the force feedback working on the said Saitek but that's probably down to my limited computer skills rather than the equipment. If anyone wants the Saitek its free to good home (if you cover the postage). Post a reply if you are interested.
2020  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 17 Novices Trophy Registration on: February 19, 2009, 10:00:32 PM +0000
Count me in for Season 17.
After my debut on the last race of Season 16 with just 4 laps of fuel I'm going to up the anti & use a full tank.
Preferred chassis is the BRM. If anyone else is running BRM in the Novices and doesn't mind sharing setups / tips etc. please let me know. Bill

Hopefully I clicked on the right button to sign up for the last race at Monza on 3rd Feb. Bit of an odd time to start but will be good preparation fornext season.

Billy Nobrakes.
2022  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / New Driver - Billy Nobrakes on: January 19, 2009, 10:24:17 PM +0000
Hi,I'm Bill racing as 'Billy Nobrakes'. I'm mates with Tim (Vosblod) who introduced me to GPL (what did i used to do with my free time?). I've been practising seriously for about 6 weeks & told I'm about ready to race on line. Early days yet so I'm on the 65 cars. Looking to join the '65 novice league & understand next race is Monza on 3 Feb. Best lap time at Monza is 1:41 -won't be competitive with the fast guys but should be quick enough.
Will sign up for races next. May bump into some of you (literally) for on-line practice.
