Put replays up.
It's much easier to spot what you're doing wrong on a replay.

Give us another replay of where you're at now.

Now you're using more revs, put another replay up so we can see what the next issue is Smiley
4  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Getting Negative on: November 24, 2011, 07:03:00 PM +0000
I've just had a quick look at the last 3 laps you did.

Two things immediately spring out.

1) You change up way too early. You could easily go another 1000rpm. As a result your revs often drop down below 7000 and the car takes a long time to pick up the speed again. That must be killing you on the straights. Give it some welly man Smiley Drive it like you stole it.

2) In to the last left hander you keep driving down the middle of the road. That makes your entry to the corner really shallow and costs you a lot on apex speed. As the next straight is a reasonable length, taking a much wider entry using all the track will pay dividends in the speed on that straight. You probably lose a good 3-5 tenths with that line.

I'll be interested to have a look at your lap when I get home tonight.

After 3 years out of the seat I got my first rank again last night, +98 Cheesy Not bad for only an out lap and whatever I drove next!! Although I did do a few more laps at Glen and Monza and got respectable times at those.
6  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Getting Negative on: November 22, 2011, 10:53:41 PM +0000
I've just added you to my buddy list to give me something to chase while having another crack at redoing my GPL rank, several years on!

I'm neg at glen and monza so far. But they're easy.

Where's that silvy lap for us to look at then Wink
7  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Helppppppp : having problems setting up online racing connection with a friend on: November 22, 2011, 10:52:09 PM +0000
We got it working. It was the win7 firewall. It wasn't set to let gpl and igor to public on the firewall settings.

A nice blat round glen and monza ensued Smiley
8  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Getting Negative on: November 21, 2011, 03:43:54 PM +0000
Errrrr - not sure I have the replay but I will look but I am not really sure I want the embarrassment of anyone looking!!!! Wink
We've all been there Smiley
But if you're struggling to beat 1.31 in the lotus at silvy there's something more fundamentally wrong than a couple of clicks on a gear ratio. You're probably losing a lot of time in a couple of key corners.

Not that I remember a lot, I can't even get neg at Watkins Glen having not driven for 2 years but me and Mark are giving it another shot for old times sake Smiley

Any sign of the modded result yet and final final tables? Smiley

I had a cracking race Smiley

As it was the last one of the season I thought I'd ditch the cooper in favour of my trusty Ferrari as speed was the key at Monza.

I did a couple of outlaps just to test the setup and it seemed a bit oversteery but it'll do Smiley I started last again as I've quite enjoyed the runs from the back.

As Monza is a notorious start line crashfest I waited a couple of seconds after the flag dropped before I set off to let everyone get going. Sure enough there was some carnage and I tippy toed through it to go from 12th to 6th by turn 1!

Then I set about hunting people down.
I had a good tussle with Graham for the first lap and managed to get past him somewhere around parabolica I think. His eagle power was tricky to overcome but I just about managed it with some slightly faster cornering.

Then I think I caught up a Lotus and Phil's Ferrari somewhere around lesmo 2. Coming out of ascari we were all pretty close and the lotus went a bit wide on to the grass and had to back off then Phil got a bit squirmy on the brakes into para and I nipped by. Up to 3rd or 4th by then i think with about 10-12 laps to go.

I started to bang in some 29s to catch up to the leaders and caught James's BRM. We had a good clean scrap for a couple of laps and I nipped through somewhere and then set about catching Sam's BRM. I got up to him at T1 and he went wide and did a tip toe round the outside avoiding the barrier but it was enough for me to get by on the inside. Unfortunately, coming out of les2 I got a bit too much power on and lost the back end and squirmed in to the fence on the right. As I got going again both the BRMs repassed me! Back in 3rd again then Smiley

Managed to get back to 2nd again and with about 5-6 laps to go I made a dive up the inside at para to pass Sam but mid corner I got a bit of a wiggle on and lost the back end AGAIN! Sam had nowhere to go and gave me a little love tap which span me round but no damage done and I rejoined in 3rd AGAIN!

So now the chase was really on. The two BRMs were pretty close together but only about 4-5s up the road so I tried to bang in some quick laps. With 1 to go I got past James AGAIN! and did a 1.28 something trying to catch Sam and was only about 3secs down but I thought we had one more lap to go. Sadly that wasn't the case and it was game over. One more lap and I think we'd have been nose to tail at parabolica.

Great clean racing fun though.

Well that is one unremittingly tedious track.
It has no rhythm, no fast sections, no corners where you feel you really nailed it on the limit and no passing places.

I was ready to jack it in after 8 laps but I stuck with it for some reason.
With about 10 to go I started to amuse myself by seeing whether you could do the whole lap without changing gear (apart from the s/f straight). Yes you can! You can do the whole lap in 2nd and it made virtually no difference to my lap times. 1.36's in one gear and about half throttle just tootling round like I was on an out lap.

With 6 to go James was about 15 secs behind me in track time so I started to slow up even more just to get lapped so I could finish a lap early Smiley He passed me with one to go. Result!!

The stock track I hate the most is Zandvoort. I'd rather do 100 laps in the BRM at Zandy than do another lap of Jarama Smiley

Damn

Started ok and got up to 5th then settled down for some hotlapping as I was +15 and -15 for the cars around me and not really making any in roads on that.

Then on lap 7 I think Phil came out of the pits just as I was coming past and so I had someone to chase for a bit of action.
Second lap round and at the S bend bit after the hairpin I drifted wide and went up the bank and put it on its lid.

As I went in to the pits to do my SnG for a shift-R the screen flickered and locked up.
Game over.

Never mind. I was unlikely to pass Phil as he was a tad quicker anyway.

Tricky track that. I've never driven it before tonight and only had 10 laps under my belt going in to the race. Lots of places that seem to kick the car out of line and not many good brake markers but not too bad to drive.
13  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Clubmans Cup - Nürburgring (Nordschleife) - Apr 19 on: April 20, 2009, 10:35:05 AM +0100
I had a pretty good race. I did one or two out laps to check my setup and started from the back again with Burt along side me I think.

The flag dropped and I tootled away to let the carnage at T1 get itself sorted but in fact pretty much everyone got through ok. All the way up to flugplatz I passed a couple of people who had slid wide and I couldn't quite work out if Steve Bird had a problem getting the power down or if he actually let me by Smiley. Over the flug and I came across Burt's ferrari at right angles to the track and clipped his rear but got going again ok.

Then the real race was on.

Lap 2 (I think) I caught up Bernie's lotus and we were nose to tail for a lap or so until half way between karousell and the mini version when we caught up with Jack O'Farrell's BRM. In to the little right hander at the bridge bit I think Jack braked a little early and Bernie braked ok but I didn't. I tried to throw the cooper off to the left but caught the lotus and put it in to a spin. Luckily no damage was done to either and we got going again, I waited round the next corner to let Bernie back past as it had been a good tussle up till then.

Lap 3 (I think) and the chase was back on again as I'd caught the lotus again somewhere in the early twisty section I think. Down in to the twisty bit with the hedge on the left about 3 mins in to the lap and Bernie span at the black and white bridge section. I jjjjjjjust missed him and squeezed by round the back to set about catching Jack's BRM again. I caught up around about karousell again and stayed with him until we got to the place before the mini karousell. I knew he'd braked early there before so thought it might be a good place to get close for a pass again. Sure enough I closed right up and in to mini karousell he was pretty slow. It's not a good section for the BRM. A slow up hill section and 2 first gear corners so I thought I might get a good run somewhere there. I decided to try a run round the outside of the mini karousell. He was slow in but fast out and I didn't quite have enough oomph to get by and I couldn't get close enough for a try on the long back straight or in to T1. So I had to bide my time and wait 8 and half minutes for that corner to try again Smiley

I had a try at the main karousell but it's a bit of a faster section and it's a very long way round so I didn't manage it but into the mini one it paid off. The BRM looked a handful again, I was nice and close, got a good run round the outside with good grip and I was through and clear.

Tim's honda was over a minute up the road so there wasn't much chance of catching that up but I pressed on to build a gap in case I span and in the vain hope the honda might pop but it wasn't to be.

Got a couple of nice sub (just) 30's in to finish second.

Good race.

Yep I'm a fair way off my old pace though.
I used to be -30. I'm currently +6! And in the coop I'm +17.
http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/php-pub/user.php?showMonster=1,1,30432

I'm getting the hang of it though. I went out in the fez last night and did some laps. I should go negative overall tonight without too much trouble.

Just thought I'd try out the clubmans to get my eye in again. I was +50 odd when we did the first race so it's all coming back slowly Smiley If I end up too quick I don't mind being excluded from the scoring. I'm starting from the back so I don't interfere with anyone elses race.
15  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Clubmans Cup - Snetterton - Mar 29 on: April 01, 2009, 11:21:41 AM +0100
I had quite an interesting race.

I'm still trying to get my old form back so I stuck with the cooper and starting at the back so I don't mess up anyone elses race.

I had a decent enough setup so a couple of qually outlaps was enough and I waited for the race to start. However, when the 30 second clock started to count down I didn't have a green flag button to let me in. So I sat there watching everyone else line up and start and I was still on the timing screen. I was going to just watch a couple of laps and leave then about 10 seconds later the green flag button popped up and I was in! So a pit lane start with the nearest car about 15 seconds up the road. I wasn't sure if it would count me as a lap down so I thought I'd do a couple of laps and see how the timing worked out. Luckily it was ok.

On the first lap I passed a couple of people mowing the grass and on lap 2 I skidded in to a burning Ferrari under the bridge and lost a wheel Smiley

So, shift-R and the race was on.

I was banging in 1.27s on clear track and passing people who had slid off. Then suddenly I realised I was in about 6th and catching Burt. I saw him up ahead recovering from a spin and saw him have a couple of half spins too. In to the S bend under the bridge and he lost the back end again. That brab looked a mare on the brakes. I seized the chance to get by and went round the outside of the right hander.

A couple of laps later I ended up in 2nd! I was catching Sam's BRM at a reasonable rate and got on his tail with about 4 laps to go. But the cooper just didn't have enough grunt to get by. I tried some tactical driving and some different lines in corners to try and get a good run but it just didn't have the legs where I needed it.

Never mind. Great clean racing and a podium Smiley
