SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: GPL vs. iR

Thanks John, for your insight and comparison. I pointed to the outdated graphics comparison as being unfair. I think it suggests the company is nervous about it's older rival, or else ignorant about it. I can't believe the developers weren't actually inspired by Gpl. Most likely because it was the same guy, David Kaemmer. I wonder who is nervous here really, if you do not like iRacing, fine, but please do not try to find competition in everything. I drive both GPL and iRacing and I say the more the merrier. Btw, what do you guys think about the BT20 in rF2? At the rFactor camp they of cause think that that one is better them both the Lotus 49. And then we have pCARS and so on and so on........ And John, do try the iRacing Lotus 49 at some other tracks then Mosport, it does really drive quite fine at let`s say Mid Ohio and it may be so that the GPL Lotus 49 is easier round Mosport but I think you need to go a bit faster then 1.29.... to really say. When I did my test at Mosport I did laptimes in the 1.22... in both GPL and iRacing Lotus 49. Göran PS. Yes H, it is some kind of strange thing with the tires, like it is not possible to get the tire temp up but it still is a nice car to drive, once you beginn to get some laps in and setup fixed.

I agree about the graphics thing but has anybody here tested the iRacing car? I have of cause and my biggest problem so far is that I can not get tire temp up beond like 120F. Btw, it is just as tricky to drive as the GPL version in my mind, I had especially problem to keep in on track at the back strait at Mosport.

OK, Natan, now when I have looked at the server replay I see what you mean, BUT from my car I saw nothing other than you disappearing.
So it was some kind of strange GPL online trick. I did not see you and I did not feel anyting in my car and when I look at my replay what I noticed is that at the time of the impact there is only me on the track.
So, for what I did in your perspective, and what I would never have done if I had seen you, I am sorry. But based on the circumstances, what could I have done?
Other than that I was the winner of a race that meant disaster for a lot of drivers and you all have two races to drop so I guess the rest of the season will be quite different.

I meant by that, applying a token system with an added restriction for front runners, which you have already responded to further up the page. I'm suggesting a seamless homogenous conglomeration - and "I'm wearin' me dictionary out 'ere!" i know when you homogenize milk you lose the cream off the top ... what you are talking about is a token based system plus added handicapping for faster drivers , if you are going to do that why not just handicap the drivers and be done with it ? Yes, it is strange, (or intersting ) how the handicap idea allways seems to find a way back some how. Token is fine, or should I say, a very good system to get both strategy and different cars on the grid into the mix. Göran

Why isn´t the handycap system abolished completely? What does it offer? Where is the sense in affecting the championship in an artificial way? Can´t we do a poll to let the drivers decide if the majority wants a handycap system or not? No matter if there is a handycap or not intermediates won´t be able to fight for podium. Does it matter if they are 50 points behind or 100 at the end of the season? Fastest driver should win, end of story. No matter if it happens after six races or after the tenth. If I am not fast enough I should try to become faster, not hope my opponents will get handycapped.
I totally agree!! Göran PS. The handicap hassles is an important reason for me to not run the pro this season.

If we have no handicaps we do not need to address the issue. And if we still want to have grids of different cars we could use a system where you need to use all, or certain cars during a season, that would also bring strategy into the equation.
But if you must have handicaps, please remove, ".........may, at the moderator's discretion". The rules must be predictable.

The Historic Trophy division The first two races will not be handicapped and after that the top three drivers in the championship may, at the moderator's discretion, be limited to a slower car. If handicapping is in action then handicapped drivers will be notified in the race post.
This is not a question of respecting rules it is a question of having a "at the moderators discretion" rule and use it when there really is very little difference in the table, only a few points between drivers. Why? Göran

Thanks Billy, nice to be back but this Historic season has been not good so far. Missed the first and screen freeze in this. Lucky for me there is only 8 races that counts.
But it is nice to see some not so common drivers on the podium, and from my perspective it looked quite close at the front to begin with so maybe H will have some things to think about this season.
