16  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 42 (Spring 2023) 1969 F1 - Nürburgring - Mar 5 on: March 05, 2023, 12:46:53 PM +0000
I registered on Friday, can you please confirm me, Cookie?

Dave, I did a couple laps in the M7 last night with the def setup, wasn't bad, I'll lengthen the gearing slightly then should be a good basis for fine tuning, I reckon

Cheers,

Bob

Bob caught us up. He quickly despatched Fulvio and was immediately on my case. I tried to stay ahead, but without a power advantage trying to hold off Bob (who is a better driver than me and was in the same car) was futile.

Thanks for the kind words Phil, but I don't think that's true, some circuits you're definitely faster on.

My goal was to finish the race, which I just managed despite an early spin after cutting T1 too much and numerous other incidents.  Not one of my best efforts but quite a bit of fun as I yo-yoed mostly down the order  laugh.  When approaching the hairpin on one lap I found a BRM broadside across the track and maybe a cooper lurking, I went off in avoidance then needed to reverse off the banking, coulda ended badly but I seemed to get away with it.

Pleased to have caught you an Fulvio just in-time, Phil, after several attempts!  The pass I pulled on you was accidental, was trying to avoid you after mis-judging your speed down the hill.  I actually wondered whether I'd warped into you or summat as prib showed you a little ways back soon after.  I can also be pleased about my qual time, no sure whether it's a PB given GPL rank is doon, but reckon it must be close.

Cheers for organizing,

Bob

Poor start to the season for me.  Only a couple praccy laps just before the race saw me in the BRM, threw it away L1 towards the end of the lap, sry to Syd who's race was ended by my literally flying BRM.

See you next time, tks for hosting,

Bob
19  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 41 (Autumn 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Oakes Field - Dec 11 on: December 14, 2022, 09:40:10 PM +0000
Grats on the C'ship Greg, great consistency this year, well deserved.  Well done Leo on the race win.  I had grand ideas of practicing loads for this race, but didn't get to it until Friday (did about 5 laps, got down to 2:25) then on Saturday a few more laps (managed a 2:21).  I was pretty happy with that but then I when into the multiple choice hell and saw that Leo had managed a 2:19 recently!!  It's all relative!

The race went reasonably well, after a spin Johnny got past and I had Alain properly on my case.  He was clearly faster but was struggling to find a way past.  I was feeling the pressure and made a few small errors here and there and finally Alain managed to get past down the long straight, at the end of which I veered left on the brakes and hit him, probably as I downshifted.  I think Alain wrongly felt guilty for this because he waited for me and let me past, very gentlemanly but this actually my fault Alain!  Anyways a few laps later we came across Johnny who then lost it letting me past but not Alain.  Seems they both had a few issues allowing me to cruise to the finish.

A few too many errors, but I was pushing hard, so goes with the territory, on reflection a more relaxed strategy would probably have been faster.

Bit of a poor season for me, all my own making, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.  Cheers for hosting and thanks for the racing guys!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Bob.

Ooh difficult one to learn!  Did a few laps last night with cookie, just 20 secs off the pace.  Shades of IOM TT.  Think I'd better jump into a cheaper car!
21  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 41 (Autumn 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - East London - Oct 30 on: November 01, 2022, 09:10:56 PM +0000
So what happens now? We skip this round? No tokens spent? Race it again latter?

I'm sure we are all wondering about this. @David any news?  Guess it could be challenging to find an available evening

As for my races, was surprised to qualify near the front for the first one, then was a bit concerned about the start, however I ran out of time as I adjusted my diff and suddenly heard revving engines...the short lap and my last ditch qual attempt catching me out!  So started from the pits over half a mile behind but picked-up a couple of places as others fell off.  I was catching Fulvio then it all ended.

For the second start I qualified a bit lower down and had a massive scare as a couple of cars tangled in-front of me, as I braked in avoidance several others blew by!  A lap or two later I almost collected Clive into the blue cafe corner and spun.  After that I was back behind Fulvio and managed to pass him shortly before the second disco.

Cheers for organizing.

PS @Axel, not sure if it's related but I have also had connection issues with my tinternet over the past weeks, even raising a ticket with O2....shortly before I switch to a new ISP....that could be the reason in my case!

Sorry for my stupid driving tonight guys, I see I caused mayhem when I over cooked it at T1, ending Enrique's race (possibly others too), then taking Jonny out two turns later, with a lunge I shouldn't even have been thinking about.  I took a look at the replay afterwards, worse than I first thought  oops  hang

Could one of the mods please post host a praccy server?

Yeah I lost a wheel in the carnage, couldn't stop in time....so still no points on the board!!  As I pulled to the side I could hear all the carnage and assumed the road was blocked as no-one came past!  I exited then watched team-mate Arf, the replay shows him sitting there waiting for several upside doon drivers to come to their senses and hit ESC to clear the way.  It all seemed to start with a couple cars going wide through T1 and getting stuck in the bales, then others ploughing into stuck cars.  I actually wondered whether it would be restarted....coz that has happens Wink  Then I too came to my senses!

Congrats on the win Phil and indeed to all finishers, of which I think there four!

Cheers for the organizing!

Well done Tris on a hard earnt victory.  As Arf mentioned we had noticed that those on pole couldn't see the flag man from the praccy races, I had intended to mention this then forgot.  Still you managed to fight your way back even after a tangle with Doni and spinning to avoid Enrique, congrats.

My goal was to finish this race.....  Unusually I'd done a bit of praccy with Arf and even though I was concerned about the Watersheddings, could generally thread my way through, but on lap 6 I clouted the final apex then ricochet off the wall then up the banking on t'other side ending upside down.  Gutted.  I have to say though that my pace wasn't great and at least Tris and Greg would have easily passed me, had I not saved them the trouble Wink

Cheers for organizing, see you next time,

Bob

I have updated the race length from 12 to 13 laps as the best drivers are running in 3min29sec - 3min33sec.
OK thanks David. Do you want the Privateers over 13 laps too?

Really?  Got some work to do then Wink
28  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 F1 (Works) - Carthage - Mar 20 on: March 21, 2022, 09:35:44 PM +0000
I was decently placed when Baab and Alain slipstreamed by to put me in P7.  Baab dropped the ball on Lap05 as we entered the chicane causing Alain and me some high anxiety.  I clipped Baab sending him over & out and Alain spun getting pinned on some scenery.  Bad luck, gys.

That's playing it down somewhat!  Fair enough I lost it and spun but Alain managed to avoid me despite being right behind whilst you hit both of us ending our races.  Can happen, certainly wasn't deliberate, but the way you tell it...

My strategy was similar to Leo's, expected loads of Eagles and reckoned there'd be a few faster so decided to get the Honda outta the way.  Was pleased to qualify fastest Honda, I was absolutely killing the engine, surprised it didn't blow, couldn't do that in the race o course.   Good job everyone on T1, I also expected carnage and starting mid pack I'd have had nowhere to go, but happily all was fine.  I then passed Doni and after a couple of others went off I was into 5th, where I stayed until my exit.

WD Renato, Jonny & Enrique.

Cheers for the racing,

Bob

Could all drivers please add their home country to their profiles so that the correct flag is displayed in the results?

Many thanks.

Hmm....that could be a deep question for some, Pete!  Not lived in England for 12 years but it might just still be home!  I also don't like the colours of the German flag (is it polite to say no offence intended re this to our other German members?).

I had low expectations for this race and lived-up to them!  I couldn't motivate myself to practice until Saturday and opted, like many, for the Brabham.  I found the circuit challenging but was quite happy with my set-up if not my lap times.  Starting 8th it was close into the 1st corner then everyone started to clear off!  After a lap or two I went off and rolled back onto the circuit despite being hard down on the gas, that strange kind of stall giving me nowt.  I should have stamped on the brake since I think I rolled into Doni who I saw against the barrier as I got going again.  Apologies Doni.

I found I had reasonable pace, bettered my qualifying time, but I was pushing too hard and kept making mistakes.  Anyways another 6th position, not bad after all the spins/offs, honestly I was lucky to see the flag.

Cheers for the racing,

Bob
30  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 40 (Spring 2022) 1967 Sports Cars - Bathurst - Mar 4 on: March 05, 2022, 09:53:56 AM +0000
After a few laps I was overtaking for third, finally freeing myself from the traffic to get on my own pace again when one of the drivers behind was like 'Oh no you don't.' and hit me in the rear.

Guilty, I apologized in chat afterwards.  I set my brake balance more rearward and find I can brake a bit later.  There were a couple of other cars ahead that braked a lot earlier and I simply couldn't stop in time, wasn't an attempted overtake and not deliberate, sorry once again.  Stellar drive nonetheless, those Chaps have some legs!

My race was okay but not great, perhaps I'd been too optimistic with the brake balance, seemed more or less fine in qualifying but I had quite a few issues braking at the end of the back straight (Conrod?).  I lost it on L1 and crashed heavily but kept the car in one piece, however Axel was now ahead and pulling away handsomely and my top speed was well down so I pulled into the pits for a reset, coming out behind Fulvio & Claudio.  I also exchanged paint whilst overtaking Fulvio into the last turn, sorry about that, got a bit wobbly on the brakes.  After that a quiet race despite a few offs.

Thanks for the racing,

Bob
