4051  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: needing help with Zandvoort 65 on: November 04, 2010, 07:28:21 AM +0000
Ah OK. Thanks for that.

When I say I can't recognise Understeer what I mean is that I know in theory what it is. I just don't know whether it is happening in practice. I have changed my steering from Linear to non-Linear after reading some comments and I find it much harder but much more stable under braking. However, since the wheel needs bigger inputs I am spinning a lot so it is finding that balance. The issue this gives me is that I can't feel whether the car is turning where I am putting it due to under (or over) steer or just my general crap car control. As for the apexes - again, I know, in theory what and where they are. I just cant find them in practice.

When you offer some help (which I appreciate) try and remember I can't drive! lol

Cheers,

P.

Jason - put up a replay!!! 2 probs - I don't know how to attach the file to a post and two, I'd die of shame:(
4053  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: needing help with Zandvoort 65 on: November 02, 2010, 09:43:10 PM +0000
This would all be very helpful if:

A) I could find the apex on any of the corners
B) I could recognise understeer
C) I could recognise oversteer
D) I could drive

I badly need driving lessons since my practice has left me driving badly. Mind you the advice I have had has got my PB down to 1:34.7 from 1:38 - now I just need to find 4 more seconds Sad

Thanks Clive - away with the mini bloods until Sunday evening but I hope to catch up with you shortly after.

Thanks for that H. I will try and be a worthy Waza.  angel Tough though.  Wink
4056  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 20 (2010-2011) Novices Trophy (65) - Zeltweg (Österreichring) - Oct 26 on: October 29, 2010, 12:01:06 AM +0100
Ah - my mistake. Thanks. The thing I am really struggling with is carrying speed through the corners - if I go in too fast I just spin so follow the mantra slow in fast out - understood but I am having to go so slow that it compromises my exit speed. I'm still driving it like a road car - I am finding it really hard to drive it 'on the edge' and carry the speed.
At Zeltweg, I practised a lot (for me) and I set a PB in qually - tried to drive within myself during the race to race myself but my best was 1:58+ - v. disappointed with myself - I was really concerned with keeping out of the way of the leaders and I STILL took somebody out - tried to brake a bit hard to let Nigel through. Wheel upshifted and I slid into him. Hoping I wont get a penalty but I probably will. At this rate I'll be banned Sad
How many penalty points constitutes a ban?
On a brighter note, I seem to have fixed my wheel with some percussive maintenance  Grin Enabled me to set a PB at Zandvoort only 10 secs off pole.  Huh I may not even race this one if I can't get to 107% - i.e 1:35.9 or so going by who is racing novices and results from season 18  :'(

Thanks Norm. TBH I wasn't worried about blowing an engine - just read somewhere that the torque was 90% if the revs were between 9 and 11,000. Mind you Torque could be 120% and I would still be driving it like a milk float Sad

Well done to the podium guys, and enjoy that sixth place Paul.

I'll take them anyway I can. Like Evil said 1:49 should have been competitive so I was pretty pleased with my nearly sub 2:00 Grin

The slowest time for the last novice outing at Zaandvoort is 1:35.4 - I can do 1:37.3 so stop whingeing about 1/2 a second here or there or whether you have a Cooper or a Lotus - I only think it fair for you lot to give me a lap start - otherwise I am never going to get a race... <sigh> <sigh again>

Thanks for that Tim - I read somewhere you had to keep revs between 9 and 11 - i'll try it out.
4061  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 20 (2010-2011) Novices Trophy (65) - Zeltweg (Österreichring) - Oct 26 on: October 27, 2010, 09:28:46 PM +0100
Fabio, I saw you come out after that SnG and you just ZOOMED away - it was just cruel! Sob.

Enjoying it though even if my race happens in a parallel universe to the rest of you.
4062  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 20 (2010-2011) Novices Trophy (65) - Zeltweg (Österreichring) - Oct 26 on: October 27, 2010, 12:53:57 AM +0100
Wish you'd retired before the end of lap 1 - I might have finished lap 1 in the pack!  Grin  Not that I would have stayed there. You should have waited for me and enjoyed passing me again and again  Roll Eyes It was lonely out there.

BTW I was REALLY pleased with my qually lap - bit disappointed that it put me last again <sigh> We inhabit slightly different worlds. Never thought I would be the Bruno Senna of Online Sad
4063  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 20 (2010-2011) Novices Trophy (65) - Zeltweg (Österreichring) - Oct 26 on: October 26, 2010, 11:21:47 PM +0100
Looking forward to Zandvoort already - I REALLY suck there so there should be plenty of points available - sadly only of the penalty variety Sad

I have a different take to the rest of you - you plan where to overtake - I plan where to get overtaken without compromising your race - its much harder  Grin
4064  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 20 (2010-2011) Novices Trophy (65) - Zeltweg (Österreichring) - Oct 26 on: October 26, 2010, 10:56:37 PM +0100
Have to agree - avoided the carnage and was running seventh when I got collected - couldn't Shift-R cos of all the cars coming my way... dead last and pretty much stayed there. Caught Karliss up and he discoed shortly after but apart from that it was a lonely race. Managed to let everyone except Nigel by without incident. Took Nige out after I lost control coming through that little kink before the finishing turn. So I'll probably get some more penalty points. My wheel was upshifting in the corners by itself so I had to be very careful. The micro switch must be dodgy - might have to use Auto gears - yuck. :'(

I was hopeful of running a 1:57 average but I was over 2:00 I think. Very disappointed.

Can those that passed me tell me whether I was OK or not - I tried to get out of the way in reasonable time. Hope I didn't cost anyone too much. TIA for any feedback.

Sorry Michael - I wondered where you had gone. When you caught me and pulled out a lead I was determined to calm down and catch you so I concentrated... and span Sad

Wierdly my steering wheel short shifted me a couple of times without any intervention from me which gave me a few trips across the countryside. Damn cheap wheels. Never mind. Fun though.
