quick punt with this: it's possible that people who find themselves struggling are being hampered by their machine. i was driving the wheels off it and ending up six seconds off the pole pace and maybe four or five sec's behind a friend on a lan. i'd do a high 1:39 then watch people do awful laps and get like 1:36. i'm not usually quite that bad so we swapped machines as his was running it quite nicely whereas mine was struggling a bit. i instantly went 1.5 secs faster without trying, he couldn't get within 1.5 secs of his quali time - on his machine the car was (comparatively) on rails with a nice planted feel. (set-up, controller, rates, everything the same.) just bizarre. online gubbins seems to work pretty well, we've had one ctd so far. gentlemen racers public server seems kind of ok but would rather be on a simracing one

I take it the official line is that the people concerned should submit incident reports still, maybe saying "blah blah, XYZ's fault, but it was only a brushing and it's been talked about in private neither of us feel a penalty should be applied" or something to that effect?
i'm trying to work out if i'm a genuine liberal or just a lazy-arse... i've never submitted an incident report. this is mostly cos i'm too slow to catch up to anyone so i can hit them, but partly cos if i get hit but don't otherwise lose out i'm not that bothered - i felt a bit bad that fozz (presumably) dobbed himself in after doni and got a penalty for nudging me round a tiny bit. having said that, it's thanks to dave's (and others') time spent that we have the atmosphere of good driving behaviour that we do - which wouldn't happen without a report / review system. guess it's lucky we're not all lazy-arses

I think 10-15 laps of rFactor is much more tense racing 'cause its possible to constantly compete in different lines through corners... I hope it will seize the hearts of UKGTR player just as much as GTR did.
yeah i love it... but how similar the driving experience of the rfactor release is to the demo remains to be seen... after all it was just to test the multiplayer facility (and cunning marketing tool) and there's not much - if anything - left of that physics/handling model in the release. i wouldn't be at all surprised if the combination of that version with that car on that track turned out to be a rare gem.

In the race I was leading but into the last corner the FF was crazy, pulling the opposite way to normal, and I spun as a result. PS Tom, can I have that setup you promised? You were so much faster than anyone else, I'd love to know how you do it :-)
that was a real shame, looked like it might have been a decent battle... er, possibly. all seemed a bit cold and slidey and hard to know where to push. on the subject of set-ups, i can't be alone in not having the time to tinker... "someone" should float the idea of races/series with compulsory fixed set-ups or summat

T ah, er... wasn't actually supposed to be a teaser in the realms of motorsporty circuit type things, gsxr600 round mallory for an hour (with a five minute break for a stretch). hang on a minute - that's today! anyone know how he got on? and was there a photography dude there (digitography.co.uk or similar)?

weeee apologies for frightening the life out of the lister driver in p2 on about lap 3... i got punted off by a saleen and had a puncture and no splitter and so was crawling around a whole lap to the pits (then i saw another group coming up fast and did the honourable thing instead ) cheers all, you guys rule - even if you do mostly drive the same car

Slightly misleading putting this in the Real World Racing section but I'm doing the Brands Hatch "novice" track "day" (afternoon actually) on August 25th along with a lad I work with who's not done one before. 99 squid for 20 car max on the Indy track.
good work... second most bonkers thing i've ever done. you may find your patience tested, but i'm sure it'll be the most scarily hilarious "fun" you've had in your car

unng... can't really call that racing :'( quali'd 19th or so on race set-up and was up to p8 at one point - purely by just pootling round - things got more interesting when the fast guys who'd spun/hit stuff caught me back up (hope i wasn't *too* much of a nuisance) anyways was still in polite mode from letting lappers past and gifted another place to jonM right on the line... but then it wasn't like he didn't deserve it

well happy not to come last and to have some interesting tussles for a change... swapped places with glide a few times over the race as we took turns going into the gravel, a "battle" he eventually won brain fade towards the end as the "1" in the sky behind me turned out not to be the ferrari but the lister that appeared behind it when i let the ferrari past seems i got the place back again, though under unfortunate circumstances. congrats to mark and thanks all, 'twas great

Has the sun gone to my head, what am I missing? Isn't an Apex a single point at the centre of the corner? So how can you have a double one? a pedant writes: corners often referred to as double-apex would sometimes be more accurately described as having two clipping points. //pedant leaves// ...ah maybe now i might "get" brno

Yeah i think it's called using 1.2 rather than 1.4 :-D
If there is something else we'd love to know about it.
i'm sure he said he runs his server using 1.4; apparently he'd mentioned it to dave already. i've emailed him so if i can get more detail i'll come back with it, i'm none too techy though (as if it wasn't obvious)... still can't see how drivers connecting won't be asked to log in to the lobby though

It still has to log you into the lobby even if you're using Direct IP.
Believe me I tried Direct IP many many times too and it didn't work. In fact I've never connected via Direct IP to anything other than a LAN game. i've just spoken to someone who's adamant there's a way of setting up a server on direct ip that bypasses the requirement for any driver to have to log into the lobby (v1.4). something about the difference between dx and non-dx server, anyone?
