1  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F1 (Works) - Imola - Mar 24 on: March 24, 2024, 10:12:29 PM +0000
No practice, no rhythm, no set up, no time today to make up for any of that.. waste of time being there really, 5s off the pace, but tokens and a few points.... still don't explain why I took so long to give up.........
2  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F2 (Professionals) - Bulawayo - Feb 27 on: February 26, 2024, 07:46:28 PM +0000
Never tried this circuit... and I can't make it tomorrow, so it'll have to wait for another time...
3  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F1 (Works) - Hockenheim - Feb 25 on: February 26, 2024, 11:21:13 AM +0000
Jonathan!!! We had a laugh about it in the comments after the race but I would, not like to have been you last night. Clearly a faster driver in a slower car, I found I could let you get close in the stadium because I knew that I'd just whizz past on the straights and make enough of a gap. That was 17 credits well spent for me  Grin

What's worse for you is that originally I had the same plan - take the Honda, as I assumed I could set it up for fast following. I couldn't make it work in the 30 mins prep for the race I ended up with. I therefore made a last minute jump into the Eagle and was pleased to get a reasonably stable setup quite quickly. An engine blow up in qually persuaded me to add 1 or 2 clicks on top gear for the race, which may also have made the difference.

As for my single spin of the race... I always try to do fuel "properly", i.e. don't accept the setup indicator of this much fuel = this many laps. Last night I decided that the Eagle needed about 0.7 gallons per lap, and calculated what the means for the race. It can obviously makes a big difference if you need 0.70 or 0.77 gallons and last night my rounding was wrong. I did finish with 0.3 gallons, but in the middle of the race I was more focused on shouting "Hey Google, what is 12 gallons divided by 0.7", to hear my phone tell me how may more laps I'd survive - ridiculous  Roll Eyes Shocked Grin Anyway, with my dodgy regional accent, it frequently misunderstands the question and I was trying to repeat the question far too far into a corner and didn't brake in time.. lucky to survive.., maybe I'd have been able to fight Alan for 4th if that hadn't happened.... still great test of concentration to keep Jonathan behind me, so I was happy at the end. I didn't see his moment on second last corner, but he was still only 0.8 secs behind me - too close for comfort, but lots of fun.

Can I just correct Dulima's arithmetic - the gap over the line at the end was 0.112 not a second :-)

And yes, mayyyyybbbee I'd have got you if Syd hadn't been there, but we'll never know. It was great fun though.

After my surprise performance with it at Porto, I took the Honda at the last minute here, because I just could not make the Brabham work round this track. Very lucky decision for me as I seem to gel with that car, and I ended up with a fastest lap about 1.5 secs faster than a car that would have cost me 7 credits more... kinda happy with that, just wish I hadn't spun twice, else I could have been fighting further up the field.

The Honda was the car to beat tonight, closely followed by the BRM???

I need a lie down… I’m seeing things

I forgot about T1 incident, sorry Doni.

Engineers was massively difficult for me due to frame drop (60 > 25ish) approaching and through it, did anyone else have that?
7  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F2 - Blandford - Jan 16 on: January 17, 2024, 10:43:26 AM +0000
MODS: I've uploaded in both races but please check names. Thanks
You are definately right with Fabio and you must be right with Arf, he was the only unknown driver.

Great race by you Pete. I tried to hold you off but I made too many mistakes. When we were fighting for position at mid distance I could easily pass you up the hill. Were you on full tanks after a shift-R? Earlier in the race you seemed to be much faster. Overall I'm happy with P6, it was a good result for me. I find low power cars on tight tracks hard work. I struggled to get Cuckoo, Anson and Hood consistently right. I totally screwed up Engineers Corner on the penultimate lap trying to post a PB because I had 3 greens on Pribulda. It could have ended in tears, I'd better not do that again  Shocked

And it gets better.. yup, that was me. Partially because I had just reinstalled the F2 mod, but mostly because I am so unused to being to join a race from iGor these days, I forgot to select my F2 profile when joining and entered as my 55 persona and no usable set ups... sorry...

Can my points be assigned to Arf in the standing rather than "Colin"?

Possible the most frustrating day ever in GPL history for me. Every time I tried to install the track there was a problem, then once that was sorted, the steering wheel would not work, As soon as I got that working the computer decided it needed to upgrade and restart, which ****** me up again. I started to practice with the Cooper and was getting faster slowly. Then the sound disappeared suddenly.. I decided there was no way the PC was going to last a race, so no point using the tokens for the Cooper... so I chose the Ferrari and used qually to try and set it up... didn't work, so started the race in a bad mood, and drove terribly. F*** f*** f***
9  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season NEW YEAR Fun - 1966 - Reims Jan 2nd on: January 02, 2024, 10:32:28 PM +0000
Right car, right setup... just totally wrong circuit. How TF did I get P2??? Draft! I managed to just avoid all the chaos on Lap 1 and bolted myself on to the back of the 5 cars that deserved to lead the race. I was only able to keep up on the straights because of draft, but I seemed far better setup for the fast corners and often had to feather it to avoid the guys in front. I was howling with laughter when I was able to use this to draft DD out of T1 and take the lead... for a while. However, it soon became clear that I could not hold the lead and I guess everyone around me knew that and just waited for the straights. It was really just about holding on for me and when further contact got rid of a couple of unlucky lads that was it for me, it was all about staying away from the green stuff.
I did have a nasty couple of laps when a back marker went behind the buildings at the tight hairpin... only to reappear right in front of me on the exit.. and then just take me out at the last hairpin on the next lap. Not sure what you were thinking there mate, wasn't much fun. The car handled differently after that but I had enough to hold Pete(?) off.

Very unexpected P2, thoroughly undeserved :-)

I should be free for this. Bah Humbug everyone :-)

Well that was rubbish. After managing to bag P2 in qually, I started the race in neutral - sorry to those affected. I had just realised I'd calculated my fuel wrong and had no chance of making the race distance without a shift+R... After a few laps where I appeared to be holding Evil off I made the mistake of looking at my fuel in the middle of a corner and that didn't end well, I rejoined in 7th and after a couple of laps I realised that I must have damaged something because i couldn't get close to earlier pace. After a few more laps I decided to shift R... but thay didn't end well and I lost a front wheel after a couple of laps, game over.

Well done to Greg for the championship and the mods for organising. See you next season.

No worries, we all get upset sometimes.

Better luck next season:-)

Zig Zag Farina?HuhHuh? That is just sour grapes. I was taking the racing line into that corner and you just ran into me. Very unsporting comment

Of course, my race was totally spoiled by the news I shared just before the start of the race, so I messed up the start and wasn't able to drive at the pace I had done in practice....

Only 5 finishers, wow. I got caught behind an invisible wall, couldn't escape, so just gave up. Before that I got caught up in other's misfortune a couple of times and spent what little of the race I lasted at the back. As ever I was geared badly and caught many through the twisties and lost them on the Conrod straight... but if I had geared the car any different I had no confidence it would survive, engine blew 2/3 times in qually alone. No idea how to gear a car for a race!

Congrats to all finishers and esp Greg for championship.

Choked on a sip of tea at the end of the back straight and binned it.  Sad

Shoulda stuck to alcohol :-)

What happened on Lap 1 - everyone went crazy out of T6 and then slammed the bakes on at T7... I tapped someone in front of me when I had to slam on the brakes, but got wiped out by whomever was behind me. It was supposed to be a rolling start until T8... That happened at F1 Portimao a couple of seasons ago, and caused chaos. Also happened at British Superbikes at Oulton Park a few weeks ago...
