Freeze for me too. And in a similar place that Tristan had his freeze. But mine was a few laps later

Got rear ended in the last sector of the track and ended upside down.
Sad to see only 8 cars making the grid. Even more sad to see so many crashes.
Nothing else to say.

@ Axel and Raoni
How did you manage to get through without pitting. I tried 31laps during one practice session and I was running out of fuel during the very last lap. So I needed to pit.
I made the same calculation Axel made. According to I calculated, I would need 170,5 litres to do 31 laps.
Since I used 5th gear 1 click longer than usual, I guess I could save fuel throughout the race.
Also, I worked on gear ratios to prevent shifting too many times and not using high revs frequently. The only corner I put 3rd gear was the right one in the 1st sector. All the rest of the track I used 4th or 5th gears.

My race was nice. Despite losing two places at the start, I was confident to have a good race pace. The first laps were quite hard to deal with the huge amount of fuel in the car. I could overtake Philippe, but made my only mistake in the race spinning in the slow corner, dropping down back to 4th place. With Markus and Philippe's pit stops, I was promoted to 2nd and could build a safe gap from them, at that point with a lighter and easier car to drive.

Catching Axel was absolutely impossible. His Eagle was flying and he drove a flawless race! Congratulations!

Ferrari for me, please Smiley
My PB (Papy track) is 1:36,15 from 2013. I'm quite sure it has some heavy slipstream effect. But a natural race at Monza is affected by constant slipstream

In the "new" Monza, my Ferrari PB is 1:37,17. But I haven't driven it so much with the Italian machinery yet

I'm in for the Silverstone races too

Count me in, too!
7  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Works - Bremgarten - Mar 28 on: March 29, 2021, 05:01:13 PM +0100
So happy with my performance in this one. I guess it's only the first or second time I finish a race in Bremgarten. It's rather difficult to survive such a tough track!
Dropped down to 4th after the start and tried to be extremely cautious in the first laps. I had a scary moment in the 1st lap when my game froze for about 2 seconds. Luckily, I had just entered a short straight section, which allowed me not to crash.

I was able to get past Clive and Jonny at the same place in different laps, but my first laps after getting the lead were not so easy. It was difficult to get some concentration and I almost lost everything whenI hit the bales in the last hairpin. Then I could finally set a good pace and bring the car home. I was in doubt whether I would race the Maserati or get some tokens with the Connaught. But in the end I think I made the right choice. Choosing the latter one would make me push so much harder trying to be competitive and I would probably crash.

--------------------------------------------
About the keyboard thing...

I think every driving method can have its advantages and drawbacks. When it comes to keyboarding, it depends A LOT on the track you are racing.
For example, on track with such fast corners like Tripoli and Bremgarten I can be rather competitive, because there's no extreme braking or accelerations. And it also depends a lot on the mod we are racing. It's a fact that with the slower cars (55 or 65) I can have a better performance because there's less wheelspin. You can watch any race with the 67s and you'll see that I have no chance against many top drivers in most of the tracks. Doing a 1:26 in Monaco, for example, is something impossible with a keyboard. And I see many drivers who can do 25 or even 24.

One thing that I truly believe is that it's impossible to be faster with a keyboard than with a wheel in, let's say, 90% of the times, or more. Take the GPL rank, for instance. I currently have the best keyboard rank (as far as I know) with -46 in the 1967 cars. It's a quite "normal" level when you see that, with a wheel, there's a bunch of drivers who have better numbers, some even breaking the -80/-90 barrier.

It all comes to how I develop my driving style with the years. Knowing the limitations of a keyboard, I learned how to be the smoothest possible. Any unnecessary movement on the "steering wheel" on a keyboard means precious tenths of second lost. I have some replays of hotlaps on Youtube, but those are outdated. You can see me doing it better watching some current replays. You can also see how I use the throttle as a way to help me make corners and avoid working too much on the steering.

"So why don't you buy a wheel?", many people ask me. I haven't done that yet because I learned to enjoy the challenge of keyboard. In Buenos Aires, for example, last race of the season, I will have a hard time to get on the podium in normal conditions because of the characteristics of the circuit. But it's still a lot of fun to battle against yourself to improve your laptimes and finish in such conditions.

There is no doubt that Raoni is a young and very good driver!
Yes! I'm only 32. Quite young, taking into account that most GPL fans are 50 or more Grin

Test it by driving Curva Grande, how few/many steering impulses you need if you try...
Actually, you need almost no steering there Grin
It all comes to how well you enter the corner and control your sliding. I just use the steering to get into and some fast 'clicks' to keep the car going during the corner.

By the way, I should film my driving one day to show how weird it is. Some will think I'm a lunatic laugh

As far as I know, Brazil currently observes Brasília Time (BRT) all year. So that means the qually start time in Brazil will be an hour earlier than usual, i.e. 16:45 (BRT) with the race starting at 17:50 (BRT).
Exactly, Phil!
For Brazilians, like me, qualy starts at 16:45 and race at about 17:30.
Depending on the region of the country, it starts at 15:45 and 16:30, respectively
9  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1967 F1 Grand Prix - Nürburgring - Mar 19 on: March 19, 2021, 10:27:38 PM +0000
Broken engine for me in the long straight while chasing Uli for P2 in lap 3.
All the bad luck/bad driving started during qualy, throwing away a potential pole in the very last corner. But that's the spirit of Nurburgring. You can master 173 corners and throw all the hard work away in the last one.

Anyway, it was fun until it lasted. Congrats to all finishers! Surviving 10 laps in this track is something awesome
10  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Works - Tripoli - Mar 14 on: March 15, 2021, 05:12:22 PM +0000
It seems that this is one of those races when you everything goes right at the same time. Luck, car, speed and track. After two disappointing races, it was great to finish one and win it.

I had no idea how driving the SL would be. It was myfirst realcontact with this car, since I've driven mostly the Maserati, Ferrari and Connaught in this mod.
Qualy was very exciting. Jonny set a very fast time and I could beat him only in the final minutes, with a high 3:17.

At the start I lost a place to Clive, as I expected, but then rejoined 1st place at the slow right corner. To be honest, overtaking there wasn't even much my intention. I put my car in the inside line because was afraid of following his slipstream and rear ending him trying to brake. I'm still not so confident with those cars under these circumnstances.

I thought we would have a long battle until the end of the race swapping the lead, maybe with 3 or 4 cars involved. But after I opened a 200m gap, I realised that I had enough speed to escape and try to have a more "comfortable" race. Without making any mistakes and finding a good pace, I was just worried about making the engine survive until the end. Luckily, everything went well!

Congrats to all finishers! I must have a look at the replay to watch the exciting battles for P2 and P4. Amazing job, guys!
11  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1967 F1 Grand Prix - Monza - Mar 5 on: March 06, 2021, 04:14:50 PM +0000
What a crazy race! I felt like going from hero to zero and vice-versa multiple times.
Qualy was very tough, with many drivers with a similar pace. In my last attempt I could set a low 1:29 which gave me pole position, something important because I knew I would lose at least 2 or 3 places at the start.

Better than expected, I only lost a place to Axel at the start. The first laps were very conservative. Everyone still being very careful trying towarm up the tires, find a pace and staying on the track. For 1 or 2 times I got very close to Axel, but was afraid of trying an overtake approaching Parabolica, so I decided to calm down and stay behind him, with Alain following me.

I thought everything had gone down the drain when Axel crashed at Curva Grande and then his car collected mine. That was a big hit but - unbelievably - I could rejoin the track without losing too much time. Alain passed us and opened a gap of about 6 seconds. I noticed my car had some slight damage because it became a little bit harder to control it when braking to Parabolica and Lesmo, but at least the top speed seemed to be unaffected.

In a bunch of laps I managed to close the gap to Alain, who didn't offer any resistance and then I could take the lead. At this point of the race, I was already watching Lasse's quick progress, who was constantly being a couple of tenths faster than me, so I knew that I would have to push my pace trying to delay the maximum possible his challenge.

Everything seemed to be working fine when I made a mistake at Parabolica. Somehow I lost my concentration, braked a little bit late and went wide, going off the track and spinning. After rejoining, I was already 10 or 11 seconds behind him. With the lead gone from my hands, I had to focus on getting my concentration back and recovering my pace to keep 2nd place safe. But then the unexpected happened. Lasse also went off the track at Parabolica. That was enough for me to take 1st place back and with a gap of about 3-4 seconds with some 10 laps to go.

After that, what I had was an amazing final stage of the race! Like before, he started pushing hard and gaining some tenths of second every lap. His pressure forced me to push my car to the limit as well without any margin for a little mistake. There was a little bit of drama in the final lap when we had to overtake Rainier at Lesmos, but he was a gentleman went out of the racing line and got past him safe.
Checkered flag with only 0,8s of a gap. I get the feeling that if we had 1 or 2 more laps, I would have much trouble to win this one. But this time luck seemed to be by my side.

Congrats to all finishers and a special thanks to Lasse for the great fun we had in the final laps. These long GP races bring GPL experience to a whole different level. Looking forward to the next one!
12  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1955 Grand Prix - Works - Monsanto Park - Feb 28 on: February 28, 2021, 11:32:57 PM +0000
Being very cautious on lap 1, staying behind Farina without trying a risky overtake... and then hit by an "optimistic" Connaught and sent to the back of the field. I felt more like playing an arcade F1 2020 game.
After that, lost my concentration and any patience to do a steady race. Ended in the haybale in the last corner while trying to catch Doni and Farina for 2nd place.

It's getting more and more difficult to find motivation to continue this series. I may give a last shot for the next race to see if I can have a first lap at least without an accident

i'm so sorry raoni, loose my brake point, and I couldn't help but go to the grass wearing you, i'm so stupid, accept any penalty for that action. if you feel bad, i'm feel worst buddy. so sorry.
luckily I couldn't avoid a car that spun and was severely damaged, and the end of my race with 10 laps to go, I think I paid for the karma.
   Embarrassed
Don't worry, mate! Next race willbe better. Let's move on and keep having fun Wink
15  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 38 (Spring 2021) 1967 F1 Sprint (Works) - Monza 67 - Feb 21 on: February 21, 2021, 10:11:42 PM +0000
I was behind you for a while Raoni, and I saw you warping/flashing. If I had been fast enough to catch you I would have been nervous about getting close. I hope the warp wasn't the reason for the accident...

I got up to 3rd when Raoni and the other guy crashed, with Doni keeping things interesting behind me. I was actually braking early for corners to ensure I didn't crash, so I don't understand what happened entering Lesmo 1, car just didn't stop and ripped off a wheel on the barriers...
I noticed I had a bit of unstable connection especially during qualy. As the race started to progress, the L and Q bars were very low and stable, so I believe warping wasn't the cause of the accident.
But anyway, apart from the season debut at Watkins Glen, I seem to have a big load of unluck running with me in this championship. Better focus on the remaining ones Grin
