Season 38 1965F1 – Round 4 – Professionals - Killarney
Yes, for those who also take part in the MixOW series, it's Killarney again. Not the one in Ireland, nor the suburb of Johannesburg, but the one near Cape Town named afer a nearby hotel. It first saw F1 cars racing in 1960, when a mixed field was beaten by the two F1 Porsche 718s driven by Stirling Moss and Jo Bonnier. In 1962, Killarney held a non championship F1 race called the Cape Grand Prix. After swapping the lead many times, Trevor Taylor beat Jim Clark over the line in their Lotus 21s. Strong winds blew sand onto the track and several engines were damaged. F1 racing never returned, but the track is still in use today. This track was recreated for GPL by UKGPL's own Francesco Molteni.

With the addition of Billy Nobrakes and Tom Johnson since the last MixOW race, there's a chance that the grid may be a full one. On these occasions we ask that those drivers that signed up expecting to attend less than 75% of the races (reserves) to remove themselves from the server with 35 minutes to go and not rejoin until 30 minutes to go to let any full time drivers in. I've added this to the race announcement:
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.
Reserve drivers for this series are GregT, Raoni Frizzo, uli, leomenegucci and Tom Johnson.

I've been on track with Clive hundreds of times, but very rarely do we spend any time near each other. Here, he passed me off the line into T1, but I was back ahead after T2. Until he crashed out yards before halfway, we were no more than 2 seconds apart. I found that all the left handers were easy, but all the right handers were there to end my race. If I tried to take them with more entrance speed, then my laptimes were slower, so I was determined to go slower to be faster. This was difficult with Clive buzzing around behind. After halfway it was all quiet and I could take care to be smoother and quicker. Early on I felt I might be able to keep up with Matt and Dan who were having a battle, but when Matt got ahead he flew away for a well deserved podium. Erling was strong and consistent as he often seems to be. Congrats to Daz, who cleaned up after Ziu and Geoffers fell early.

Season 38 MIXED OPEN WHEEL – Round 3 – Spa-Francorchamps
For this round, the MixOW entrants will drive the 1967 F2 cars at the Spa67 GPL track which is NOT the original Papyrus version. In the early 1920s, motor racing began to be held on the public roads between Francorchamps, Malmédy and Stavelot in Belgium, about 50 miles west of the (still to be proposed) Nürburgring in Germany. The Spa track was enlarged in 1951 to become the layout used here. This track hosted the Belgium Grand Prix until 1970, when the F1 drivers association declared that it was too dangerously fast. Part of the old track was used to create a shorter lap in 1979 and the F1 cars returned in 1983. Eau Rouge is one of the most famous parts of any track in the world. The stream gets its name from the presence of iron oxide deposits giving it a reddish colour. The track crosses the Eau Rouge again halfway around the lap, on a bridge seen as a low parapet either side of the track just at the start of the Stavelot corner.
This is the third race in the Mixed Open Wheel series in which we will be using cars from 1965, 1966, 1967 (F2), 1968 and 1969. Drivers entering this series must select a manufacturer group and keep to that group for the whole season. Where more than one chassis is allocated to the group you can select any car. Pro / Works standard drivers cannot use Groups 7, 8 or 9.

Season 38 1965F1 – Round 3 – Amateurs - Phillip Island
Phillip Island is off the south coast of Australia, about 90 miles south of Melbourne. It hosted the Australian Grand Prix between 1928 and 1935 on a rectangle of public dirt roads. There wasn't a bridge to the island until 1940, so the cars were ferried across. The permanent Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was opened in 1956. Unfortunately, the track surface broke up easily and the 6 ton weight limit on the bridge meant that heavy tarmac laying equipment couldn't access the island. The track deteriorated, but a new bridge opened in 1969 and the track was refurbished. It closed again, but was redeveloped in 1988 into what is still in use today. Phillip Island regularly hosts Superbikes and Australian Touring Cars (now called V8 Supercars), but never F1 cars.
