76  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) - Spa - Jun 21 on: June 22, 2020, 02:00:59 PM +0100
The 30fps thing - in GTL I can ALT + TAB out of the game screen to set affinity and enable all CPU cores, which improves my fps. I can't ALT + TAB out of GPL. There are programs to enable all cores such as Process Lasso and Runaff, but I see people have other problems with them, so I am afraid to try them. Axel, is there a safe way? The 30fps thing is rare for me, so maybe I can live with it.
77  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 37 (2020) - Spa - Jun 21 on: June 22, 2020, 11:42:48 AM +0100
Good old Spa with wide and empty spaces tempts me to try GPL again.
My fps stuck at 30 at the start and didn't clear to 60 until lap6. I have had that before, but it has cleared in a few seconds. With full fuel too, I was struggling not to make an error early on. Doni and then Billy were not far behind for a while and I kept Clive in sight ahead until he got interested in another part of Belgium around half way. I saw no one after that.
Suddenly the gap to Tris dropped quickly. I could see he wasn't at the pits for refuelling, but he was moving slowly. Smoky engine? He wants some company? Then he kept my pace and quickened again. It kept me interested. Grats to all finishers in keeping concentration.
I had 6 gallons (23 litres) left at the end. Perhaps I could have done 31 laps on the one tank. I think stopping for fuel was a much slower option here. A short track GP length race with compusory fuel stop would be more difficult.

79  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 20 Fun Races - Zeltweg - May 25 on: May 25, 2020, 10:21:38 PM +0100
Oh, I see from the results that I was the only one in a 2.8. I just randomly chose #8, not knowing that anything other than the skins were different. That's why I was so easy to pass on the straights.
If there are other hidden differences between the cars in a one car series, such as big wings, then I think that those differences should be known to all.

Anyway, I enjoyed my race. Always someone nearby. People coming back through after offs, especially Rog, who repeatedly teased me for much of the race.

Can I have #8 please, Tony?
81  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 20 Memorial Trophy - Interlagos - May 13 on: May 14, 2020, 11:50:44 AM +0100
I tried a lap in each car and thought that this was an impossible race. Then I read that the Capri was not too bad. So I tried it gently and things became possible.
For the race I assumed a lot of carnage early on, so I wanted to be at the back to avoid anything. That worked well at the start, and the restart, and the other restart. There was no carnage and I settled in behind Bob and Fulvio. After some time, Bob let us both through. Pitstops started to happen and I encountered Geoffers and Erling leaving the pits as I passed. I lifted a little to let them go. They were not part of my race. I pitted for front tyres only (maybe they could have lasted all race?) and filled with fuel after starting with full tanks. I didn't want any complicated calculations going wrong. After that Bob was a little ahead of me and Fulvio did a lot of pit stopping. It looked like I could have a race with Bob to the end. I was surprised to be lapped so soon. The top three passed me in easy places with no drama. I'm sorry to hear about Bob and Dimitar. Dominick was struggling near the end and I picked up another place.
Grats to the fast podium and to Dan for keeping the mad Porsche on track.

This was a memorial race for Laurie Clemo, or his online alter ego, Ligel Canello. Interestingly, his first online league race was at Interlagos, in January 2007 at GBGPL. Dan, you were in that race! Laurie was lapped then as he often was, but he loved the online experience. He was never a front runner, but always a gentleman on and off the track and became very good at being lapped.

I noticed this when trying to set up GTL recently. In Dimitar's videos the engine health is down at the bottom by the fuel and laps. When I installed XD, mine was up in the tyres and I wondered what I was doing wrong. I couldn't see how to adjust this, but it's there on the screen. I find it hard to find time to look at much of the XD when on track anyway.
Looked like a great race. I couldn't make it. Grats to all.

Pics of my mini from GBGTL. I was a driver in the blood service at the time..
I have unearthed a psd file of the template mini that somebody did for me and I must have followed a tutorial to finish it off and put it in the game, but I can't find that tutorial or the finished mini (TGA file?). If anyone would like me to send the psd file to them if they could turn it into a driveable mini, then I would appreciate that very much.

I don't remember Pete ever mentioning a partner. I think Rebecca was Michael Boylan's partner (and they shared the same car too). I took part in the first seasons of GBGPL and GBGTL and stayed with them until after Pete left some years later. He had trouble running GPL on his computer near the end and quit in frustration. Jani Posta took up the running of the league and renamed it Groundhog after a while. He still runs some GPL races and collates results from many leagues on his website GPLWeekly.
Pete continued to have an online presence away from GPL. He ran a stockcar league. I don't remember which sim that was. I see that with the current real life UK stockcar seasons suspended, the real F1 and F2 drivers are taking part in online races, livestreamed and with commentary through UKDirt on rFactor. I don't think GBGTL lasted more than 3 seasons as people were lured away by PnG and rFactor.

Thanks for having me.
I don't remember the last time I was in a GTL race. There is documentary evidence of a Le Mans 24 hour race on youtube (search for GBGTL) in which I took part maybe around 2007, which also included Erling and Dan. Around that time I also did a series or two with Minis only, where we had our own personal skins and I think Geoffers was in that too.
So I installed it last week, thought I'd try online and all went well.

I did a few laps in each car. My inexperienced thoughts were that the Toyota was slow, the Mazda was wild and the Nissan just right. I'm not into setups, just a longer click on final drive and more fuel here, but I saw that there was a tyre option. Did anyone try them and notice a difference? My aim was to stay out of trouble and that was achieved. I stayed back with a couple of others through the first lap to watch the carnage unfold in front of us, then things settled down. I had one moment, around lap7 when Tony was recovering in front from an overshoot at the hairpin and shaved my nose as he rejoined (unsighted). I don't know if it caused any damage - how do you know apart from obvious car handling or if you pit to see it on the pitboard? I didn't really feel any tyre degradation. My fronts were about 12 at the end. 12 what? I looks like the bar on XD has a long way to go before there's nothing left, maybe 30 or 40?

I had an interesting race with nocatu where he'd lose time off track and gain time on track and always be quite near me. I had breathing space near the end when he had a bad off, but with 10 seconds to spare with 3 laps left, he made a good effort to finish quite close.
Grats to Geoffers. I'll be back.

Clive and Tim battle for the lead down Paddock Hill as Phil holds back to take advantage of the possible incident at Druids.

A fun, but ridiculous series, ended in a funny, but ridiculous manner.
After Tim's lap1 hairpin spin, I was away with Clive. I didn't have much top speed and was easy to catch on the long straight. I had the big advantage of the Ferrari and sort of kept in touch if Clive had a couple of spins. So he did and I exited the hairpin on the last lap in front with a couple of seconds to spare. An unlikely win? Oh no, the engine died. Reset and thought I'd better do the SnG in the pits before the line. Clive was lurking half way up the straight wanting a race to the line, but I needed the pits and we tangled. Clive continued through the pits for the well deserved win. I managed my SnG and crossed the line only tenths in front of Tim, who was half a minute behind half a lap ago.
Grats to Tim for dominating the championship with six wins and three (nearly four) seconds.

Something to tidy up perhaps... The JSMT is all about finding a winner of the race series. Emphatically, that was Robert Fleurke, winning all three races, but what else happened?

There were incidents, but none reported. At Adelaide there was a mass disco just past half race distance for most of the remaining field, yet it doesn't matter because Robert was already the JSMT winner by then.
The top six were awarded points as in 9,6,4,3,2,1. Works standard drivers were limited to the BRM, Honda, Cooper or Brabham, using a different car for each race. No non Works drivers made the top six in any race, despite this handicap and two Eagle friendly tracks.
19 drivers attended Carthage, 17 were at Tripoli, 16 at Adelaide.
Largest gap was Robert (1st) to Doni (2nd) at Adelaide of 1.33.723
Smallest gap was Andy (5th) to Iestyn (6th) at Tripoli of 0.017 seconds hahaha!
Robert was the only driver to score at all three races and the only one to have an odd number total.

1st Robert 27 points
2nd= Tris and Doni 8
4th= Tim and Axel 6
6th= Greg, Clive, Pelle and Dean 4
10th= Andy and Iestyn 2

If anyone else thinks that they might like to come along and meet Malcolm, watch some historic racing, laugh at our regional accents/baldness/facial hair then PM somebody that you know is going and we will arrange to meet up at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Like last race was very bad for me.One engine any 4 laps,seem too much.

You don't lift your throttle when you change gear. That kills the engine very quickly. Billy had a worse race when you drove through him in T2 and ended his race. I was luckier when you hit me in the hairpin because I could continue. That was all in the first minute. You have to wait your turn at Mexico at T2 and the hairpin on the first lap as all cars are close and can only go through one at a time safely. No point in making an incident report because you don't change and you can't lose points that you didn't earn. Please think of other drivers.

Grats To Fulvio on the win and the Championship. A great effort coming through in this race having to overtake most of his championship rivals. John had a great season, looking to be finishing on top until the last few laps here.
90  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 31 (2017) Historic Trophy (66) - Hockenheim - Jun 18 on: June 19, 2017, 11:24:12 AM +0100
So sub 2 minutes was possible for most of us with a tow.
Clive, your car looked solid from my seat and in my replay. I don't think that the connection speed is the trouble. GPL used to run full grids with dialup and 56k modems. Could it be the quality of the connection?

I held back a bit at the start as I expected trouble ahead. My car seemed to have good speed. I could catch up in the tow quite quickly and pass, yet other cars struggled to do the same to me. Most of the time I was at the front of the pack including Bastian, Doni and later Andreas when he dropped back. Fantastic driving by all to stay respectfully close and clean. I was slower in the complex than the others, so there was going to be a tight finish. We were reeling in Sam ahead very quickly and I was first of our group to the last Ostkurve. It looked like Andreas's back end came around and blocked the track for the other two, so I had the pressure off for the end of the lap, but not quite enough to catch Sam. A great win on a fast track in the slow Eagle and a Championship win too.

I guess that the Spa race is still to be rescheduled. A few of us will not be back from Brands in time for the next race at Aintree.
