16  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 33 - End of season review on: October 18, 2018, 01:39:16 AM +0100
...1.    Has the token system worked well with all car sets?...

I think it has. Instead of being static as they have been, tho, I suggest that the most used cars get more expensive, and the least used cheaper, after each season. Less tokens for pros v. ams would be good, too.

New rig works (obv) but needs a lot of tweaking, mostly the FF. Two seconds off my regular Brab pace around here, and clumsy at that, lost its shine after half dozen laps. Sorrys to anyone caught by one of my "moments".

Heading into today's event, I only needed points for 9th place to clinch the season title no matter where Evil finished. Easy enough in a series where I'm almost always amongst the frontrunners, right? Well...

First off, apologies to anyone who was caught out by my constant disappearing act. If this race hadn't been crucial, I'd not have run at all. From the amount of time that everyone else was invisible (and I to them), I'm amazed I didn't get booted.

I did five qually laps, not a single one registered, and had "Pit In" on my board for the first five laps, replaced by "DQ" for the remainder, so no idea where I was or who I was fighting the entire race.  Huh

Add a still-sliding-around chair in front of a wobbly desk and my strongest emotion today was relief at the sight of the chequers, yet even that was tainted by still being shown (on my pitboard) in 13th place, not good enough.

But by the replay, I managed to finish in 8th place on the track, between Billy and Dave R., so that's one of three championships I led at some point this season I managed to hold onto. Smiley

Grats on championship, Axel.

Would have liked to have been there to at least challenge, tho unlikely I could have finished ahead of you.

I was too busy getting pointlessly driven across a good portion of southeastern Ontario (while suffering from the effects of a summertime cold) for no reasons other than wasting time, money, gasoline, and making me needlessly suffer both health-wise and financially by someone completely oblivious to other's concerns and with whom I am seriously considering severing relations at the conclusion of our present arrangement. "Friends" like him I do NOT need.

Well, I'm still in the same place mentioned in my previous race report, just not at HER kitchen table. Wink

Wheel is now very solidly attached to a rather wobbly desk, and the chair I was in kept slipping back when I hit the brakes, if anyone's wondering why I was near 2 secs. off my normal Brab pace. Between those issues, I just wanted to finish my race, and NOT finish anyone else's.

So I managed to do those things, and even kept 3rd in the championship. Hope I can get stuff sorted and give a better fight next season.

22  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 33 (2018) 1966 F1 - Aintree - Sep 11 on: September 13, 2018, 07:06:32 PM +0100
Best news yesterday was that I've found a place (for now). Staying with an old friend (whose wife, well, we've never really "clicked", so the sooner I'm out, the better for relations all 'round) who only has room because a kid is off to school. So my rig was set up on their kitchen table ("I'll be done by 5:30, disassembled and cleared by 5:45, PROMISE!! Now go away, luv ya, bye. Cheesy" with bare minutes to go before qually started.

First few laps all ended in the wall because of pedals slipping, got that sorted, put up a decent time (accounting for almost no practice, and I really should have used the Brab 2.7 for stability's sake but had the points to spend and love that V12 sound too much), started at back anyway because I hadn't run in traffic with this wifi. Connection seemed pretty good from my end, some flickering but nobody disappearing for seconds.

Pedals slipped again going down to T2 on lap 1, almost managed to recover but wheels on grass, clipped the barrier putting me into half-spin off track but forcing Fran to take avoiding which meant Billy got involved, too. Sorries to both of them.  Sad

Plan for the race was just to get some good points, so got my head down, started reeling off laptimes good enough to accomplish that, but my wheel turned out to be attached to the table not quite as securely as I thought, leading to missing the chicane many, many times. Then one of the cats that lives here decided that my feet and the pedals were absolutely intriguing. So between slipping wheel, pedals, and really not wanting the lady of the house to come investigate why her cat is screaming in pain with me in the kitchen, I'm quite OK with being two laps down after this disaster of a week. Smiley

Looks like I'm missing this one, as well.  Sad

The good news is that I have a couple of lines on a place to stay, at least for short term. Nothing awesome, but a roof is a good thing. And I'm going to keep the championship lead going into the final round (pending a mod report  Roll Eyes).

GL those who can take part, and watch out for the chicane!   Smiley

Not attending this one. Been some major upheaval in my life (rant about living up to your part of a contract before bitching about others may be shared later), and am posting this on the flakiest-ass wifi this side of 1994, while looking for a new place to live. Sad

...Sorry for that impact in La Source in Lap 1...

I was ready to apologize, because I really hadn't seen you at all until 0.1 second before the contact, but watched the replay and yeah you were not making that corner.  Grin

Glad we both survived, and had some good fun later.

engine let me down at 2.5 laps of the end.... Iwas leading .....

If it's any consolation, and it dang well should be, you just locked the season 33 championship, stationary or not. Grats.

And grats to Bill for surviving!

Still with the heat and humidity causing hand slippage here, evidenced by some of the non-fights I put up. Sad

Ended in the bales, after many many minor scrapes and bumps. Bastian was leading when I quit! Cheesy

Overheard in the Ferrari paddock, pre-race:

Quote
"Know what would be funny?"

"No, what?"

"If we replaced one of the V-12 race cars with a Fiero."

"Wouldn't they notice the power difference?"

"Nitrous. We've got that kit from E-Bay we used on the LaFerrari to keep up with the P1 and 918."

"Yeah, and if we set it for fullshot allatime they won't notice the boost...but the biggest bottle we've got won't last more than *checks notes* half-race".

"Even funnier. One of these asshole arrive-and-drive-never-even-say-hi-the-mechanics rich pricks is getting disappointed."

"Ha. Let's do it."

And guess which car I picked? Tongue

Grats Tris, Fulvio, Clive. Had some fun 'til the bottle was gone. Hope I stayed out of the way for the rest. Two cars that caught me on pit straight, 5 or 6 laps to go, you caught me by surprise, sorry I didn't move sooner.

...F1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 who sadly will soon leave the F1 circus  Embarrassed ...

On the bright side, it's a reason to watch IndyCar again (in my case, for the first time since the '90s, aside from Indianapolis last year).

I'd rather watch Fernando when he has a chance of winning.

Between heat (31C) and humidity (ridiculous), only had one lap a time's worth of concentration today.

Sorry for sloppy rejoin in front of Clive(?). Waited til I could hear no engines coming, popped over the bank, and saw you approaching quickly so I stayed stationary and said "eep". GJ avoiding, and grats to finishers on this tough track.
