I wasn't too keen on this track and so I decided to take the Mazda in order to get it out of the way
. Practice showed that I could dip into the 2:09s but that was about it so I was expecting a lonely race at the back of the field. Qualifying was about as expected but when the race started I was amazed to find myself circulating behind Erling
. As things settled down I found that I was quicker than him through the twisties but his Beemer was faster on the banking. Even if I got into Erling's slipstream and so gained some momentum my poor ol' Mazda ran out of steam when I pulled out to pass and dropped back behind. This cat-and-mouse went on for many laps with Erling sticking to his line through the bendy bits and then me trying to keep up around the oval. It seemed like stalemate until Erling made the tiniest of errors in T1 and I was able to sneak past into T2
. I was able to pull a few tenths per lap and was feeling quietly confident until I noticed that Steve was quickly closing on Erling. When Steve had gained the place I tried to push harder and overcooked it when turning onto the banking. The resulting spin allowed both Steve and Erling to pass
. The final few laps saw me trying desperately to close the gap to Erling and, given another 24 laps, I might have succeeded but the chequered flag put and end to that
Congrats to Jose, MaiPor and Gregman for the podium places and particular thanks to Erling for an excellent race
