If anyone wondered about my bizarre behaviour: At my 2nd pitstop my crew chief never showed up. And although I must've been more or less in the right spot, nothing happened. I could quit, I could go around the buildings but that would have likely ended in a Wrong Way DQ so I decided to go round the track with 0.7 laps of fuel. I coasted a lot, short shifted by a mile, but I don't think I would have made it without a little pushing by Dan. Thanks mate, and that was funny.
Don't worry, I kept out of the way and if there had been as much of a hint of an incident threatening to happen, I'd ESC'ed in a flash.

Not much to say about the race otherwise. Everyone seemed to be in a league of their own with very little interaction. Not sure I'm a fan of multi class races to be honest.

One thingy that will shock Geoff and Daz: After some laps, I started to -wait for it- like the Escort.  Shocked

Grats to podium and the survivors.  thumbup1

33  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 20 Renault 5 Turbo Cup - Albi - May 20 on: May 20, 2020, 10:31:00 PM +0100
Sorry for buggering of so quickly after the race but I had been beginning to feel unwell from the heat halfway the second race and when I reached for a drink I dropped the glass and my floor, including the pedals, was all glass and Coca-Cola. I needed to sort that out asap after the race. All fine now.

Not pleased with my races. I really should do better with cars such as these. What's a misspent youth worth if you can't even imitate real life with hot hatches in the 80's on a sim rig, aye. Or were all of you yobbo's too?  Grin

Right now I barely remember a thing about the races except that in race 1 Tony literally dropped out of the sky on top of my poor Renault. I was giggling for at least two laps after that.

Congratulations to the podia and judging from the results I think they put a turbo into Clive rather than a pacemaker.

It's May, 20th and we're already hitting 27°C again. Insane.
Nevertheless this year I'm going to try to soldier on. Morituri te salutant  wacko
35  UKGTL / Ex-NoGrip / Re: 2020 NoGrip Legacy HTC Event 8: Donington Park Twin Race on: May 19, 2020, 08:22:43 PM +0100
Quite the uneventful evening for me. But that's a good thing.

I don't know the protocol but I think race 1 deserved a restart. 6 or 7 cars went off or got blocked in T1 without any clear culprit(s). Should we use chat for that?
Once the dust settled I was in a bit of no man's land chasing nocatu and while I got a bit closer I'd have needed a hundred more laps to catch up. At least I managed a half decent setup for a new car which is very, very rare.

The Beemer was great fun but with all those aliens nowadays the only battle I had was with Geoff in a lower league car. He got past but I almost had him back on the line, 0.139 seconds was the difference. Ironically during practice I thought my setup was a horror but it went well and judging from Dimitar's video it might even have been better than average. One of these days I'm going to learn this stuff, lol.

Special note for Dom, no Targa or Le Mans on my list, plus ca change mon ami..... Grin
There are actually a lot more tracks which you don't like where I thrashed you  angel
I once almost lapped you at Goodwood of all places. Grin

This would be an easy list to make if I could post mental images. Lacking that opportunity as well as a memory for names and years, I came up with this:

Targa Florio Cheesy

Circuit de la Sarthe (must have Porsche curves, must NOT have Mulsanne chicanes)
Spa-Franchorchamps (version with bus stop on the left)
Nordschleife (also VLN)
Monaco

Nemuno Žiedas
Circuit du Mas du Clos
Laguna Seca
Zandvoort
Knockhill
Bridgehampton
Lime Rock Park
Watkins Glen (NO Inner Loop)
Willow Springs
Hidden Valley
österreichring (absolutely NOT the A1-Ring)
Oran Park Raceway

I am really sorry Bob, but please watch the replay. You just stoped right in front of me at the straight before the corner. I just couldn't do enything. I thought it wasnt my fouth and that's why i didnt wait for you.

Please accept my apologies if you think i am not right.
Sorry, Dimitar, but it's ALWAYS the responsibility of the overtaking or lapping car to avoid incidents. You were at lightning speed and Bob was considerably slower and fresh out of the pits so you could/should expect him -or any non-alien for that matter- to brake way earlier than you're able too. Like I said some time ago, us mortals are slower for a reason and the aliens should take that into account. There are no trophies or money prizes to win here. (Note that I'm speaking for myself here, I do not represent SROUK).

I hope you reconsider, Bob. If you don't, I wish you all the best too. We had some great battles back in the day. I for one would miss you.

That's not always true. If you are in front but act unpredictably, it's not always possible for the driver behind to avoid a collision. The simulated physics means drivers can't perform miracles. I've had a lot of issues with some backmarkers during my GPL years in the past, who would just suddenly hit the brake in front of me in places where I don't expect it. I was myself hit from behind at the 2nd start in this race, because I dropped the revs and lost acceleration (too long 1st). Do I blame the driver behind for that? Of course not...

I haven't seen this situation, but I've raced with Dimitar in different rFactor leagues since 2012 and he is a very correct driver, never doing things with ill intention. Besides, why wait for someone if they've been lapped, to let them unlap themselves and lap them again? It makes no sense to me. Perhaps Bob was under the impression that Dimitar was fighting for him for position and not lapping him?

Dimitar was under an enormous pressure from behind as I was catching him up and we were fighting for victory, so waiting for a backmarker makes no sense, particularly if he judged it to not be his fault for the accident.

In any case, I hope Bob reconsiders too. I don't quite get why you would take this so seriously, Bob, unless you've put the amount of practice Dimitar has done to prepare for this race and it has cost you a podium position or something.

Before we judge harshly, we should either watch the replay or wait for Dimitar to upload his onboard video, so we can see what happened exactly.
Both you and Dimitar are most welcome additions to this league, no doubt, and I haven't the slighest notion something like this was with intent on Dimitar's part but as anyone here can vouch on behalf of Bob, neither would he ever do anything like that intentionally. You guys are really, really fast while some of us, at least some of the time, have no chance of battling for the victory but we still want to have an enjoyable race if only between us backmarkers. There IS room for both parties, but it does require a slight adaptation from the ultra fast guys. Just a little. I tend to agree on the waiting part but only because I'm off the opinion that this particular type of incident shouldn't happen in the first place.

Anyway, I'll back out of the discussion now and hope that Tony steps in to tell us all how we should behave  Wink
39  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 20 Memorial Trophy - Interlagos - May 13 on: May 13, 2020, 10:21:40 PM +0100
As for my race, despite having found a genuine JohnWTM setup, the car's behaviour was a shambles. I had no idea what it was going to do in any corner and those two tightest right handers followed by a dip I had to take as I was driving in a pedestrian part of town. No pace, no control, so I let everyone pass, regardless of whether they were lapping or in the same lap. Combat would have ended in tears for sure. On the one hand it was a shame because I so do like monsters, but that doesn't mean I can drive them (with one notable exception the mention of which will make people like Geoff or Daz sigh: "here we go again"  Grin). Still, I somehow made it to the finish so there's that. Congrats to everyone for managing these lunatics especially Dan with that insane Porker.

41  UKGTL / Ex-NoGrip / Re: 2020 NoGrip Legacy HTC Event 7: Cadwell Park Normal Race on: May 12, 2020, 12:30:00 AM +0100
I'm quite pleased with tonight's race. All went well. First I found a setup in my Cadwell folder which turned out to be very tolerable. Apparently we raced here last year -zero recollection- and either I got a gift setup or it was one of my very rare succesful creations. Qualification went well too. The first three didn't count anyway as that's the Unattainable Alien League and amongst humans only nocatu was in front of me which offered the possibility of a fun full race battle. I dropped a few places at the start but that didn't bother me. Staying on the track was going to be far more important. I always keep some extra distance and tolerance in the first lap anyway and once again that paid off as Dan and -alas- nocatu had a bit of a tiff. A bit later I managed to squeeze past Mike Harley which put me in fourth, which, again, I considered First of the Humans. The gap with the Aliens grew so fast that Dimitar could even afford a few hiccups -confirmed in another enjoyable video which is most appreciated- without having to worry too much about me. Behind me the gap grew to some 20 seconds so I could consolidate quite early. Finally a race in 2020 I didn't mess up in one way or another!

Congratulations to the podium. How on earth you guys manage it, I'll never know, let alone be capable of.

@Hristo! I'm sure you didn't realize it but you parked your car plonk in the middle of the opposite side of the track after you finished. At least 4 cars, myself included, had to avert it with a last second swerve.

@Dan, I agree with you. It's implicitly clear anyway that it's very appreciated. Not having a 'Thank you' button assigned I started saying 'Hi' to those I passed because there were so many "Thank you's" I started to feel like an ungrateful bastard when not saying anything.

happy to put my setup into the online suppository repository if you want to try it Dominick
I would appreciate that very much, thank you. Setup's been an uphill battle for a decade.

Just uploaded my race setup on Norisring  Porsche 904_4 UKGTL.
My setups might not suit everyone's driving style, but FWIW I was dropping to 4th at the right hand kink before T1 hairpin and avoiding further downshifts to as late as possible, whilst mashing the brake pedal. Getting the timing right was critical as I wanted to lift off the brake just as I engaged 1st, otherwise the car would not turn in properly. I could be quite brutal with the gas pedal on the exit, just being aware too avoid spinning up the rears and rotating the car too much. that is generally the same for all corners. have fun.
Thank you, I'll have a go on the morrow.

Some last minute setup adjustments to the setup solved what had been a somewhat unstable braking problem and I found in the first few laps that I could stand on the brake pedal and stop the car in a straight line.....provided that I remembered to stand on it at the right moment.
If I may ask, how did you do that? I found the problem insolvable with the ensuing predictable consequences (Not that I was much better in the Elan though....  Lips Sealed).

Congrats for taking that spastic little ferret not only to the finish but in a more than reasonable position.
