For the record, I'm pretty sure you would have found a way past also Erling. I went too quick in the early stages, before deciding to change strategy after 4 laps once I had spotted you were not going to stop, and so didn't get the fuel save spot on, fun trying though.

I realised I had been discoed pretty quickly, but carried on as there was just that one complete lap left to do. I pushed as hard as I dared on that last lap, and the car coughed as I ran to the line, no surprise as it was showing 0.1 laps of fuel left in it. My total race time was 59.04.9 for reference.

Seems I got dropped by the server with 1 lap to go....
18  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 1971 ETCC Div.3 - Jarama - Sep 11 on: September 13, 2023, 12:41:24 PM +0100
I found the Capri was quite tricky here Geoff, once the tail was going around there was little I could do about stopping it....

Found a good lap in quali to get the pole, but then Erling got a great start to jump me. It was very difficult to hear the engine of the Capri over the Mustang of Matt and the BMW of Erling, and I think I span the wheels too much, and then didn't change very quickly in response. Only just held Matt at bay in all honesty, so got a bit lucky there. Erling was quick and smooth at the start, so seemed sensible in a longer race to sit tight, whilst keeping an eye on Geoffers behind. My eyes went wider when he had his moment in turn 1 as it looked like he may struggle to miss me, and it looked like he had gone very deep in the gravel, so I knew he would be off my rear for a good amount of time.

Tried to look at where I was quicker than Erling, but it soon was obvious that getting alongside wasn't going to be easy, the BM had better drive onto the front straight mostly, and getting through here can be tricky as it is narrow in places. A couple of laps of head scratching was relieved when Erling didn't get as good a launch onto the straight and I got alongside in turn 1. Trouble was I then binned it shortly after coming out of turn 4, losing about 6 seconds I think. Few laps later I was back, but then lost it again before making any attempt at a pass at all. Went again, then had a third spin, and was now around 10 seconds down not long past halfway in the race from memory.

The car had brushed the wall, couple of small impacts, but was mostly intact. Erling was being super consistent as always, lapping 36.4 to 36.7 for the main part. I had to get my head down and post some quick laps to make inroads, and ended up going better than in quali, always helps having a target to chase I find. Caught Erling on lap 28 I think, but it remained difficult to see how to go past. I had seen that I was quicker in turns 3 and 4, and had stuck my nose down the inside in turn 4 without getting enough alongside previously. It would all depend on if I could hook the car up enough out of that turn, relying on Erlings tyres maybe being a bit worn now to slow him down. This meant we were then alongside through turns 5, 6 and 7 before I could finally make it stick. Tried to pull away after that, but Erling remained resolutely none too far away right up until turn 1 of the final lap where a run on the gravel meant I could breathe freely.

Great fun at Jarama as usual, very good racecraft Erling, proper fight there.

Huge congrats to Micha for the series win, and Erling and Geoff for the podium.
19  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Monza - Sep 4 on: September 05, 2023, 03:56:50 PM +0100
The Holden is arguably more fun to drive as well Geoff, so I've saved it for a more fun track.

Was always going to be Sierra here, not too many corners to worry about. I couldn't nail the setup in the time I had, the last gasp effort in quali was the very best I could do. Race start was ok, and I saved fuel for about 10 laps or so, but then on tyres that were wearing a bit I started to make too many errors which brought Erling back on my bumper. I stayed out for 2 laps longer, which definitely helped. Came out in the lead, and then was just bringing it home. Happy to get Monza out of the way, never been a favourite, too much kerb hopping needed.
20  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Barcelona - Aug 21 on: August 24, 2023, 04:10:08 PM +0100
I can't claim to be the biggest fan of Tilkedromes, but I have always liked Catalunya as a layout, has that bit of gradient change that is often missing from new tracks, and usually gives good racing. I do very much prefer the layout with the fast 2 corners at the end of the lap though, so it was a bit disappointing to find that horrible chicane!!!

Took the Holden to use up one of its drives, got 2 of them left and 2 Sierra drives, so will be in a car that doesn't suit the track at some point I think, not that I know all the layouts very well, Mexico is new to me for a start. Geoffers was rapid in quali in the Supra, the only way I could get my nose in front of him was running a proper quali fuel setup. It was already very clear that tyres were the problem for me though....

Kept the lead off the start, and tried to settle in at a decent pace without going too hard, as I was desperate to not have to change tyres if possible, given that I felt Geoff would not. I was actually therefore surprised to be pulling away for the first 3 or 4 laps, but he was just lulling me into a false sense of security! The gap then started to shrink, and soon he was all over me in the tighter stuff, only the extra urge of the brawny V8 keeping me in front.

However, that brawn was quickly munching through the tyres, and I was now certain of changing them, not doing so would have made the car utterly dangerous to drive, as well as very slow. By lap 10 I was losing quite a bit of drive, meaning Geoff was creeping ever closer. Eventually this took it's inevitable toll, as I couldn't quite leave the door into turn 3 firmly shut, and Geoff made sure it was big enough for a Supra and took the lead. He then quickly made the extra grip tell by pulling away inexorably....

I had started with the car full of fuel. This meant it was heavy, but did give me options to play with, either going very long and not taking tyres, or a shorter fuel stop if I did have to do it at halfway. I was hoping the stop would therefore be  a bit quicker than recently, but I was still stationary for 54 seconds, felt like a lifetime....Exited the pits in 3rd, as Fulvio had romped on past, and the gap to the front was around a minute or so, which I couldn't really see any way to overcome. The car was now much better of course on the new tyres, and I was lighter than the start of the race, so it was also quick.

Once the pitstops panned out, I was suddenly now only 15 seconds or so behind Geoff. Didn't think it was going to be so close to be honest, but I was now doing my best laps of the race, and the next lap took another 2 seconds from him, briefly giving me some hope! He then upped his game though, and the best I could take out of him on a lap after that was a second, which faded gently as my tyres wore down, and he coasted home with a 7 second gap...Good fun throwing the big beast around though, it is quite friendly to drive when compared to the Sierra for instance....

Grats to Geoffers, pretty flawless win in truth, and grats to Erling for the podium.
21  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 Jim Clark Trophy - Goodwood - Aug 14 on: August 15, 2023, 09:48:53 PM +0100
Fwiw I was running the long gears, middle gears are 5 tenths slower for me here.

Couldn't quite nail the lap in quali for a time, but took some of the race fuel out and that did the trick, hence the 1.26.7 which I think is my best lap ever in this car here.

Made a bit of a mess of the launch, too much wheelspin meant that Dimi got into turn 1 in front, and I was happy enough to settle in second and take the tow. Overtaking around here is difficult, but not impossible if enough space is left. I thought I would be quite a bit quicker given that I was in the tow, but actually the high pressure tyres that DD was running did give him just a bit of an advantage in the first part of the straights, and I was having to move around in the braking zone to try to move him offline to get a run. Ran practically on his bumper for the first 6 laps or so, we swapped a little paint here and there but nothing outrageous. The chicane was an issue, whatever I was doing was better by quite a chunk, but a near static Cortina in the middle of the chicane in front of me a few times prevented the best use of my advantage there.

Eventually made a enough of an overlap through and out of Woodcote to risk a dive into the last chicane, and took the lead. DD slotted in behind, and took the chance to sit in the tow. He took in where I was quick, and was quicker on the back straight than me by a big margin, so actually breaking away was looking tricky despite the advantage in quali. With race fuel loads it was far more even it seemed, my car had more understeer with the fuel on which was robbing me of a bit of speed. I lead for 4 laps or so, but then pushed too hard in Lavant, touching the left kerb giving me some sideways action and losing drive, and I had no choice but to give DD space as he had a huge run up to Woodcote. Ah well, only lap 9 or whatever I thought, plenty of time.

Unfortunately, whilst it was fun moving around in the slipstream, being so close was also making it difficult to see all the turn in points for the corners. Turn 1 in particular, where I had found some time in quali, now became a problem for me, and that meant quite a few laps were spent then catching up, only to lose time in the aforementioned chicane and turn 1. I couldn't get the best from the car, and making a pass now looked harder as DD had learned when behind me so was quicker. Some moments where I did have enough speed to draw alongside came and went, and then eventually the inevitable happened and we touched, not hard but in a really bad place, just you are braking hard for Woodcote. I went straight off into the barrier to the left at speed, didn't lose too much time in all, only 4 seconds or so, but the car was bent of course. I wasn't impressed with myself, although it was a total racing incident it was on me to avoid it. I think the front brakes were locking a bit here, and that did for me.

At this point that left me with a situation of trying to now close a gap, with a car that seemed slower on the straights than before, with steering that was a little bent. Needless to say, the next 5 laps at least were rubbish, I was trying to go quick but the car didn't want to play, and lots of little errors like running wide out of St.Marys or the chicane then happened. I also nearly rolled it off the kerb in Woodcote when looking at how best to get past Robbie, turned in a little too early when distracted! Before long I was over 8 seconds back, with 13 laps or so to go, so no chance from there, it was in the bag now for DD.

Pegged the gap, DD was obviously in cruise mode by this point, and then by lap 20 I had a handle on the damage. Also, the lighter car was starting to pay off, my setup is obviously better on lower fuel is all I can think. All of a sudden I was flying along, and the gap was shrinking, not fast enough to actually get to him, but pressure is sometimes enough, so I gave it all I had. DD realised, and also then pushed, so the whilst the gap was still coming down it did mean my progress slowed. By lap 27 I had it down to 4 seconds, was never going to close all that in 3 laps, I was gaining 0.5 at best, but it was worth a go still right..... but then I tried too hard into St.Marys and a huge rear slide sent me smashing into the barrier on the left. Recovered to the track having lost 18 seconds or so, and just brought it home. If it wasn't bent before it certainly was now....

Grats to DD, uber consistent as always, and to Geoffers for the podium run.
22  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 22 BRDC Ford Challenge Trophy - Silverstone - Aug 7 on: August 09, 2023, 09:37:00 AM +0100
Cracking end to the series.

Great quali session. I got the impression that it would be tight, and so it proved. Geoff pulled out a stonking lap to take pole, I was on one that would have been really close, but ran out of time in the session, got my timing wrong for once....

As Geoff said, he ran wide on cold tires on lap 1, and that was kind of that. He did then prove to have great pace as he said, and I wasn't really able to pull away much at all.

Race 2, softly softly at the start, let the race settle a touch. It got to be a flying foursome at the front, Clive, Erling, Geoffers and myself. Geoff was keenly lining up a pass on Erling, who was trying to defend whilst also looking to get past Clive, who was defending his line well. I could see that I had an advantage in Club, and when both Erling and Geoff went wide I went tight, and got the power on early, driving up the inside of both. Then made a move on Clive, hoping to get that done quick to have a little breathing room. Geoff was quickly passed though, and the gap was only 1 second or so.

What followed was a proper race. I knew I had the drive in Club, but Geoffers was very much quicker through Becketts-Maggots, and therefore onto Hanger, meaning a move was possible in Stow. He was then also quicker into and out of Stow, meaning I was under pressure into Vale, which was negating my advantage in Club a touch. He was then quicker into Abbey, I had good drive through Bridge though to hold him back, but he was then quicker into Luffield/Brooklands. I was quicker out of the final complex, but slower through Copse. It was a real nip and tuck situation, I could just barely hold him off if I got just enough of a spoiler on his lines, and maximised my drive on every corner, but it was really hard work. The smallest of errors on the fast stuff put my on the back foot, Geoff did get alongside on Hanger into braking for Stow once, and we did rub paint into Vale once, but mostly was just flat out with 0.3 to 0.8 seconds between us through most of the rest of the race, we both did very much our best laps in this race, faster than the initial qualifying runs....

Greta fun all round. I have enjoyed this car, so if we use it again that will be welcome for sure.

Great series, thank you for the organisation Tony, and grats to all.
23  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Spa - Jul 31 on: August 01, 2023, 07:55:39 PM +0100
Thought the Sierra would be a good option here, but went with my first decision months ago to take the M3. I knew I would lose on the flat chat bits, but that car is so fast in the corners that I fancied it might be good enough to hold its own.

Which looked about right initially, practise times were all quite close between the top 4 really. Then quali started and Geoffers unleashed the beast to set a really good time. I had gone as fast as I thought I was able to, but on full tanks not low fuel. Worked on the gearing, and also made some suspension changes, then took most of the fuel out for a proper banzai quali run, and pipped him late for pole. It was a decent lap, I was happy with that one.

Felt sure I would not be able to hang onto the lead for long, my only thought was hoping one or two might bog on the line. I think that may have happened, given I had some space at La Source, which then lead to charging as hard as I could through Eau Rouge and Radillion to try to stay in front. As it happened, I did have a gap, and it went to plan.

Once Geoffers was in second, he ramped up the pressure, closing in little by little. I had decided to run low fuel to help with the start, and also to try to put pressure on the tires of the Sierra, knowing from my own experience that they can go down in grip quite quickly. Pitted early with a 4 second gap or so, came out 7 seconds behind Tony. Had to be patient to find the gap I needed, Tony was covering the lines well, but I knew I needed to get on with it, losing time here would give Geoffers all the space he needed, he was lapping 2 seconds faster than me at this point. Once through I could keep that down, was then a case of seeing how quick his pitstop would be, and whether I was in front with a gap to defend.

That ended up moot, as Geoff then pitted a second time, from which point it was a case of not being daft on tyres that were starting to wear a bit.

Was good fun, Spa is probably my favourite track, probably....M3 was just fantastic here.

Grats Erling, another consistent run, and unlucky Geoffers.

The one pc that slipped through the net at work and had ended up accidently on 11 is now an absolute pain in the proverbial, as it is one of the two on the trade counter and the website back end access is now falling over constantly. Unfortunately no one said that it had updated, and we have missed the rollback option....

My gaming pc has resolutely stayed on 10.

My home office pc is still on 7 Ultimate.....
25  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Hungaroring - Jul 24 on: July 25, 2023, 09:20:15 PM +0100
Glad you entertained Erling, was certainly busier than I had bargained for!

Took the Merc as it seemed a good chance to use it, shorter straights etc. As Erling said, he blasted past me on the approach to turn 1, my car just didn't quite pick up the revs when the wheelspin stopped off the line like his did. Now, having race a few times before, I know it is theoretically possible to overtake, but is by no means easy at all, normally requiring some level of co-operation from the person being overtaken. With that in mind, I settled in behind, having already filled the car to the brim and being content to sit in the tow and save fuel if that meant another lap or two could be saved. Left Erling in relative peace for at least 10 lap, but as his fuel and tires went down I was able to be at least a bit of a pest to keep us both entertained. I did think a later stop would be happening for Erling as well, but then he surprised me by stopping pretty much dead on halfway.

With free air in front, I let the car go a bit, trying to ensure a lead was built. I thought he would change rubber, which I was not planning to do at all, the car was sliding but it was ok. Eventually went to the pits on lap 26, with a lead of 76 seconds or so, should be ok I thought, pitstops are around 45 seconds or so normally....

Then I stopped at the garage, the pitboard didn't come up. Put it in reverse, and stalled it. Moved forward, got the board, loaded I think for 8 laps of fuel (no I don't know how I got to that number either) and forgot to not change tires. Sat and watched the time ticking down whilst saying come on under my breath....seemed an age to release me, and whilst I was exiting the pit Erling went past me and pulled a 5 second lead or so. But, I was on fresh rubber, and the car had a healthy balance with the too much fuel it had in it. Cut the gap and closed in, then sized up a couple of passes without making one work, but probably giving Erling a couple of hairy moments. Eventually gave myself enough space to get a run into a corner I had been faster on all race and stuck it on the outside to attempt a 'surprise' moment given I had looked at the inside all night, and the car stuck for me.

Having got in front I got a trifle annoyed with myself and went all in, hence the quicker lap at the end.

Good fun following you Erling, really consistent as usual, which is a challenge on this technical track in its own right.
26  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Silverstone - Jul 10 on: July 13, 2023, 09:56:15 AM +0100
Zero historic content in ACC, RaceRoom is the one to look at for any of that. There isn't a ton of it, depending on the definition of historic of course, but the game has content from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s at least from memory. It is also more fun than ACC 'out of the box' as it were, and the only trouble I have had in feeling in the FFB was when running downforce cars as my experience of those is limited.

ACC is fantastic to look at, and is a highly complex sim in a variety of areas, but literally is only modern GT3 and GT4 cars with no other content bar 2 or 3 cup challenge cars based on the GT3 versions. The LFM platform makes it a great experience from an online racing point of view, but in isolation it does not deliver the same feel as RRE in my own opinion.

I still would like GTL2, and can't believe there wouldn't be a market for such a title.

The community Geoffers referred to is on Discord, so you will need to join that for start, very easy to do. Looks and acts a little like a forum, crossed with an app. Either myself or Geoff could then invite to the SCB group we are in, and be assured the age range there is wide enough for all to no be concerned  Grin
27  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Silverstone - Jul 10 on: July 12, 2023, 03:41:19 PM +0100
The guys running in the RaceRoom Experience races are a good bunch, I wouldn't doubt that anyone here would have some fun as the grid is around 24-30 every time, and for my money RRE is probably the best in terms of content and feel of the driving experience of the modern rash of titles. It is genuinely great fun.

FWIW I wasn't looking to stop racing GTL either Clive, I still massively enjoy the experience in the game and have no intention of skipping the weekly dose.

I have however done some other things since we stopped on the Wednesday nights, as I can't just sit and watch the rubbish that Mrs.Daz does on the TV! I've applied for and just had through a beta key for the Rennsport game that is being developed, currently only GT3s as standard content but it is really early days (it is definitely still beta given the lack of bits and pieces in it at the moment) in terms of content releases. One interesting bit though is that it is already openly talking about supporting mods, so theoretically that could mean anything could appear in it.....
28  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Silverstone - Jul 10 on: July 11, 2023, 09:32:53 PM +0100
Which pedals are you running Clive?

And I will second Erlings point Clive, your brakes need a small deadzone added as they are just coming on from time to time, losing tenths I am sure!

Erling, there is genuinely still good stuff to get your teeth into, the races I've done with Geoff on a discord community over the last couple of months would have been your cup of tea I'm sure. Retiring isn't the way, just maybe a little refreshment.....

I took the Sierra, as I had it in my head that I must do Silverstone/Sierra as a combo. Then spotted Tony was making it the modern version, which would suit the car much less, ah well.

Quali lap was way faster than anything else I did, no idea how. Had enough of a jump off the line to keep Geoffers back, and then settled for a couple of laps to gently heat the tyres, trying to pro0long the life. I had put in around 16 laps of fuel, just to allow a little past halfway, but felt sure I would need to change the rubber. Tried to push away after that but couldn't find the quali pace I had, was just enough to ease out to a 24 second lead by the pitstop.

Now, I had it in my head that Geoff might pit straightaway, but not change tyres, to try to keep most of the gap he had. But to my surprise he was only 8 seconds or so down the road, and the Cosworth was just too fast to not be able to eat that up. Caught and then followed him, knew I had time to not make a rash move, and was looking to get the drive on the Wellington straight and go past, but he spun it exiting the corner, so it was fuss free my end. I did wait, just so he had something ahead to pull him along and not feel so lonely, but then he had his s/g and that was that.

Car was awful initially, but the setup I uploaded seemed to sort a lot of the understeer. Definitely not my favourite version of Silverstone either, I think that might be the version before, Abbey and down into Bridge corner etc....
29  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 23 World Touring Car Trophy - Zeltweg - Jul 3 on: July 05, 2023, 04:03:19 PM +0100
Al ways quite liked this track, the corners do flow nicely in the second half of the lap, but are more technical than they first appear I think.

Went with the Holden, although I was sure the Sierra was probably the quickest car on such long straight bits I just felt the mid range punch of the V8 would be better suited for the corners in the second part, despite the slightly more ponderous transition in the chicane. Fantastic to see Clive drag some real pace out of the Sierra, and my quali lap was about all I had, it being just enough for pole.

Relied on Clive getting a poor start, but didn't think it would be as bad as it was! I think I was nearly at turn 1 by the time his boost arrived.....but a couple of laps in he was hoving into view in the mirrors. Was trying to fuel save a bit, had started on full tanks which could theoretically get me to lap 26, leaving a short splash to finish, but that would involve getting the tires to last a whole race distance as a change that late on the tires would be pointless.

In the end I pitted a bit early so I could grab new rubber, the wear rate was getting quite bad. Only needed a shorter fill of fuel though, so a bit of compensation. Did my best lap on the fresh rubber, then spent the last 5 laps or so trying to make enough smoke so that it was difficult for Matt to see the corners, all good fun!

Holden was a doddle to drive here in all honesty. Looking forward to getting back into the smaller cars though....
30  UKGTL / UKGTL Races / Re: UKGTL Season 22 BRDC Ford Challenge Trophy - Silverstone - Jun 26 on: June 27, 2023, 05:06:48 PM +0100
I think that was just me being safe with the fuel from another track Clive, I reduced it to 25 laps before qualifying last night, and that was my race fuel load. Generally speaking, I do always run with a touch too much fuel in the car as it feels more comfortable to me most of the time.

To answer your question on the rev light, I was changing up not long after the red light illuminated on the mini hud readout I have in GTL, and I am not sure if that truly corresponded with the dash light or not. Most of the time with these turbo cars making sure that you thrash the living daylights out of them is the way to be quickest, hence my punches on the throttle in the longer slow turns, I am trying to keep the revs a bit higher and the boost on. No idea if the boost is mapped properly in GTL but it seems to work for me from time to time.
