Expect sunburn or to be weather beaten. Everyone always ends up red no matter what. Knockhill has a climate all of its own that nobody actually understands.

Pick the right place to stand, I would advise the top of Seat Curve at the end of the straight and you can see the cars for most of the lap except half the straight to the hairpin, the hairpin and the exit up to over the brow. However there should be a big screen right ahead with the action from the TV.

Last year was very good. Most of the usual support races although the Clios either don't come up or are often poorly attended.

The Scottish historic race last year was brilliant. Far more cars than travelled down south a few weeks back.

Edinburgh city centre is only 20-25 miles from the circuit. Or you could try camping at the track.

So I'll be driving the HPD, Radical & Riley this season

Lucky man, a good choice and I'd join you if I had the time. I might just have to stick with the Radical for now and hopefully rescue my lowly iRating.

My weekend race shows what a particularly stupid system they have devised for grading drivers.

Regards
Gary

To be fair the system does normally work quite well.

You've just not raced enough to put your iR up to the correct level for your ability.

You very narrowly missed out on the top split. The iR adjustments after the race would mean if all the same drivers entered again you would actually make the top split.

Congrats to family.
5  Everything Else / Chit Chat / Re: Car stereos with USB or sd slot? on: January 22, 2012, 05:05:57 PM +0000
I've never seen one that does not.

If you are happy with you head unit and cd changer, why not consider something like this?

 http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits/parrot-mki9200

You will have connectivity for various things and hands free phone if you don't already have one.

I'm sure you can get one fitted for £160 these days.

I know it s a long shot but i'm sure some of our young'erns al all into it Wink

Fed up listen to the same old cd's in the autochanger so am looking into sdcard and USB Headunits but am unsure how well it all works, how long does it take to build the playlist? Will it remember what you playing when you switch off? Do you get track info on the display i.e id3 tags? I'm guessing sdcards are quicker than usb.

What are you going to connect through the USB?

I've never come across one that does not pick up song titles. They all read the music files and display the folders as you saved them.

If it's from your phone with stored playlists it might not read them.

7  Everything Else / Chit Chat / Re: Car stereos with USB or sd slot? on: January 22, 2012, 12:49:13 PM +0000
In my MX5 I've got an old ish Sony USB headunit and that shows the track info and I've never noticed it being slow picking up playlists. Also this is probably bit sad to admit but I've got a factor fitted Ipod dock in my civic and it always makes be laugh when I plug my Iphone into it and the phone says Car isn't a recommended phone accessory

A lot of things only say iPod compatible as they are not shielded against interference with the phone. They usually still work though.

Apple also changed how the later iPods and iPhones charge so it might not charge either.

Thanks guys. I had noticed the Fujitsu laptops as ebuyer seems to promote them a fair amount.

What about Dell, more specifically deals on refinished models. Are they faulty on arrival laptops or old heavily used items too?

I'm lost on computer specs but is an [email protected] not much faster than the i3 processors?

This Dell has a 1GB graphics card too.

Good value or not?

I can't remember not having tyre wear. I seem to think it's been there since I joined back at the start.

If it was not, it must have come very shortly afterwards.
11  Everything Else / Chit Chat / Laptop buying advice on: January 18, 2012, 01:41:08 AM +0000
The girlfriend is looking to buy a cheap laptop to replace her old desktop. She does not really use it for much other than the internet and typing the odd letter.

Her budget is a maximum of £400 so how far can you really go for that kind of money?

Advice much appreciated.

Great news Simon.
13  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: RFactor2 on: January 16, 2012, 09:03:23 AM +0000
I take it you don't have iracing then? People moan all the time that things are not done.

I'm quite surprised that many iracers seem to be far more forgiving about rf2. They seem to finish every post explaining it's a beta whereas they would not accept the same at iracing.

I've been keeping an eye on rf2 and some people seem to like it. Many people who I trust to give a fair opinion think it's poor.

No I don't have iR.

Try to remamber the beginnings of iR. At that time NR 2003 was more advanced sim than iR and only thing that was really impressive were the tracks. But many simracers could see the potential in this title. IMO it's the same with rf2.

Is the sim going to drastically change in 6 months after all the time required to get to this point?

That's the plan. But if the ISI is able to complete the work on the final version, only time will tell Wink

I do remember iracing from when I joined mid 2008. I never had NR 2003 so can't compare.

From what I recall both the tracks and the driving physics were good to start with. Some major things missing and bugs to fix, but the driving element was always good.

3.5 years later there has been lots of changes but it's not as if the entire sim has been changed. Development has been much slower than most people would have liked it to be and there is countless posts on the forum everyday with people complaining about it.

RF2 has been under development for quite a while now and people have been expecting the launch for a long time. I've been reading "it's coming soon" for a long time and now when it has arrived it's only at beta stage. From what I'm reading it's not just a minor changes here and there required.

I'm struggling to see why so many people have confidence that RF2 will be a polished and honed final product in 6 months time when it's already so far behind schedule.

As my original point though, people just got on iracing's back since day one about beta and how it was an unacceptable practice to release a beta game to the paying public. That was the perfect excuse not to join and have a moan on the forums about it.

Now with rf2 it's perfectly acceptable and when there is flaws with the sim this is ok because it's beta too.

Why did so many people struggle to give iRacing the same amount of space and patience even from the very start?

14  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: RFactor2 on: January 15, 2012, 05:36:52 PM +0000
In iRacing, people are paying for beta testing all the time and they don't complain about it so much Wink

With RF2 you don't pay for being a beta tester. You simply buying an finished product in pre-order, as a bonus you're getting that beta version Wink

I know it's a beta but none of the videos I've seen so far look very good.

Here is a nice video in the rain.

Don't think it will be long before drifting will be mastered in the Formula Renault.
