Moderator's Report

Phil Thornton takes his third win at the Ring to get his season off to the perfect start. There were many podium contenders but after polesitter Martin Hunt and the flying Paul Markey hit trouble, Dave Rainier and Ross Neilson battled over 2nd and 3rd with the wily Frenchman getting the nod.

Well done to all those who saw the flag at this most gruelling of venues. It gets easier from now on ;)

Server replay time: 0h00m59s

Phil and Sky are neck and neck on the run down to T1, but very far apart at either side of the track, Phil on the left and Sky on the right. Both turn into T1, Phil on a tighter line as he is on the inside, and contact is made. Sky runs wide and rejoins safely whilst Phil is unimpeded.

Having been behind Phil on the grid, Sky perhaps should have been more aware of his presence to his left. However at no point does one driver appear in the other's mirror, and as we know lateral vision in GPL is poor.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m42s

Mike Turner is recovering from a spin at T2 and rejoins the track on the right. Al Baldwin moves to pass him on the left. As Al draws alongside, Mike puts his foot down and his car slides right towards Al, causing the two to hit each other.

This offence would carry a total of two places, one for the incident and one for it being on lap one. However I've downgraded it to one as it was as much a mistake by Mike as it was careless driving.

Server replay time: 0h39m04s

Fran comes into the pit lane to take his mandatory stop and go penalty. However he does not come to a complete halt before setting off again. Drivers are reminded that their car must be completely stationary before they head back onto the track. Repeat offenders will be disciplined :)

And so we kick off with the first race of Season 22 at the green hell. The Nürburgring has 174 turns and that times six is 1044 turns, so good luck.

Privateers will run on Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THIS RACE ONLY
In view of the length and complexity of this track the ban on Shift-R's during practice is lifted AND you will be allowed to take a maximum of TWO resets rather then one. You must still take a Stop & Go.

Race length = 50 minutes (laps 6)

Full moderation of lap one red zone

LAP ONE RED ZONE: Full moderation from race start to end of Flugplatz

Reserve drivers should not use the server between 35 and 30 minutes of qualifying to allow full timers to join. Please restrict chat to pit messages.

Moderating will be by FULL moderation of the lap one Red Zone (see above) plus any other reported incidents, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the Privateers championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

REPLAYS
Available from the UKGPL3 server website.

The Nürburgring is a motorsport complex around the village of Nürburg, Germany. It features a modern Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer old North loop track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. The old track, which we are using, was nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart and is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous, and most demanding purpose-built racing circuit in the world.
In the early 1920s ADAC Eifelrennen races were held on public roads in the Eifel mountains. Soon this was considered impractical and dangerous. In order to provide work and lure tourists into the area, the construction of a dedicated race track was proposed. The track was completed in spring of 1927, and the first German Grand Prix was held there in July. In 1939 the full Ring was used for the last time in major racing events, as future Grands Prix would be held only on the Nordschleife. After World War II, racing recommenced in the 1950s and the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring again became the main venue for the German Grand Prix. By the late 1960s, the Nordschleife and many other tracks were considered increasingly dangerous for F1 cars. In 1967, a chicane was added before the start/finish straight. Various changes were made in the following years until, following Niki Lauda's crash in 1976, use of the old ring in formula one ceased for good.

Having not driven the 67s for a while I thought I'd struggle a bit and I did initially until I found my old set up from 2004.  Once I loaded that up I had much more grip and I set about getting used to the power and limited grip of these beasts.  I managed to beat my PB by a second in praccy so all was looking good for the race.

Tucked in behind Martin at the start but he was quicker than me and gradually pulled away but he made a mistake towards the end of the first lap which let me through to take the lead.  After that I tried to keep the car on the tarmac and put in 6 consistent laps all between 8:35 and 8:43.  Not blisteringly fast but consistency is the key here.

In 322 UKGPL races I've only every won 4, and 3 of those have been at the ring.  No wonder it is my favourite track Smiley

Grats to my Antipasti Team mate, Martin for getting pole.  Looks like Antipasti will be a force to be reckoned with in Season 22!
