Moderator's Report

Round 2 and not many reports at all and everyone was careful at T1 except for....

me. and I am also the only driver to have appeared in every report :(

Good driving from everyone though and some great racing and ultimately Nigel got past me as he deserved...

This series is shaping up well. Hopefully Badblood will not appear in the next moderation...

Server replay time: 0h01m09s

Nigel brakes relatively early and catches Badblood by surprise. Despite Badblood's best efforts, he hits Nigel and spins him.

Although Badblood tried hard to avoid the accident, he was careless which could have been a major problem on Lap 1. This is a clear rear-end shunt.

The rules have this "Blatant Rear End Shunt: Penalty 2 Places
The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control."

As this is my shunt I have asked other Mods to have a look at this and as I did make an attempt (cack-handed) to avoid Nigel, there is mitigation. The consensus was to mitigate down to a Simple which attracts a 1 place penalty

Server replay time: 0h01m11s

Phillipe has made a good start but makes a classic novice mistake of braking too late and too hard. He loses the car and slides in to the armco. This bounces him back in to the path of Giovani who has nowhere to go. Phillipe ends up facing the wrong way.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

Phillipe is in a hurry to get going and misjudges how much room he has and tags the unfortunate Carlos Paz. Phillipe should have waited until all the cars had gone past safely. It is always dangerous to turn back onto the racing line, particularly on a fast entry corner such as T1 at Mexico.

The rules have this: The rejoining driver was NOT in full control but nevertheless attempted to drive straight back onto the racing line without any consideration for other drivers and contact was made.

Unfortunately, hard as I have looked I cannot find any excuses and this could have ruined a couple of races. I have decided that Phillipe was not in full control which would have meant three places lost. So two places penalty.

Drivers are reminded that if they spin they MUST wait until they are SURE that the track is clear.

That analysis is available directly from here.

Buzzing - had such a good race with Nigel, then Paul, then Giovani (wd on your first race) and then Nigel again...

Disappointed for John about the connection problems... join us tomorrow for BREASTs maybe?

Sorry about the server crash. Not sure what that was.

Onwards and upwards... top ten at Cerne is now the aim...

Well done to Hendy on his first win.

Norm, still the bridesmaid, hope you're not the Chris Amon of UKGPL mate Smiley A first win is long overdue.

Norm is definitely not the Chris Amon...

He's not that good Wink

Seriously, I cannot believe he won't be tasting the virtual champagne sometime soon. I am just hoping that I might get on a podium one day...

I am in the middle of an office move at work at the moment, so I didn’t get any chance to do any practice for Mexico, and I really was expecting the worst. At the start of qualifying I was quite slow, and then the server crashed. Getting back to qualifying I some how managed a decent lap, which was over a second better than my pervious PB. I was really happy with that and was surprised to be 3rd on the grid.

At the start I took it easy, my team mate was right in front of me going into turn 1, so I backed off a little and promptly lost a place to Rotaxmax. I managed to stay with Rotaxmax but couldn’t find a way past, that Honda sure is quick on the straights. After a number of laps, Rotaxmax made a small mistake which let me past, but now he was right on my tail. I was constantly in fear of that Honda on the straights, as if he got close I would have been a sitting duck. Luckily I was slightly faster in the twisty bits and managed to get a little breathing room before the straight.

Somehow I managed to pull a little gap, but it was really hard work keeping my concentration up as any little mistake cause more pressure from behind. I had a moment when lapping someone who spun going into the hairpin, I couldn’t miss them and crashed right into the side of them. I managed to get going again fairly quickly, it cost be about 5 seconds, but it meant that Rotaxmax was right on my tail again, this time I couldn’t pull away in the twisty bits and he overtook me. I tried to stay with him, and put some pressure on him this time. I was doing OK, but started to push too hard. Going into turn 1 he made a little mistake and ran wide, I obviously got target fixation as I ran wide too. It turned out worse for me as it caused me to spin, letting Il_Lupo past too. With only 3 laps to go it was over for me, I tried to put some pressure on but I was too far behind with too few laps left.

I ended up finishing 6th, which considering I hadn’t done any practice I am quite pleased. However just after the race I was a little bit gutted, spending most of the race in 4th, driving my heart out only to lost not only 4th but 5th too all due to a accident when lapping a car, was a little disappointing.

Not sure if I’ll be able to make the next race, it depends if everything goes smoothly with the move. Hope to be there as these BT11’s are fun to drive. Talking about BT11’s looking at the results it was almost a specs race at Mexico Smiley

Congrats to Hendy, great win with great pace here, and ofcourse Norm and Rog, Well done guys.

Hendy was robbed of pole by the server disco which meant that the shorter second qually started with a clean sheet & I managed to get myself up to full speed before he did. That pole was a pb, & fast enough to qually 4th on the Inters race ( just thought I'd mention that Wink ).
Basically Hendy passed me to turn 1 & cleared off leaving me to spend several laps before I finally got a gap on RogUK which  built up as the race went on.
Well done to Hendy & Rog & thanks to those who were lapped for their good behaviour.
Thanks for the commiserations Ross its the chance that one day it will all come right that keeps us all trying.

I am sorry about the server crash and I hope that my decision to just leave 18mins was OK with you guys.

I am still unsure why it happened but I got the dreaded 'GPL has stopped working...' First time I have seen that since the server was commissioned properly. Hopefully a one off. Hope also that John can get back on.

Well done all.

I can echo Al's comments as I too got a few places and then lost them again. Happy to run seventh at one stage but 9th not too bad given my pace. Bit gutted not to average under two mins per lap. Missed that by half a second per lap... Sad

I also rear ended somebody at T1. [Turns out it was Nigel - oops. Never a good idea to crash into a team mate Sad] I thought I had managed to stop in time but I saw them spin off. I think the mod will take a dim view...  Grin Sorry to whoever it was, I'll check the replay and report myself... Sad

Getting better though....  Smiley

Strange race for me, 4th on grid and 3rd into turn 1, had some enjoyable racing trying to keep up with NHance after 8 laps he pulled out a gap and that was it, with Hendy way out front and NHance pulling away the rest of the race was disappointing poss due to my car setup gears all wrong etc (lame excuse, its down to the driver). Thanks Happyal for care into turn 1, sorry to hear about your lapping incident.
Grats to Hendy a great win, and Nhance for 2nd and pole

Dont know why I kept getting kicked Geoff, could be a game setting that I should have done- or maybe my new homeplug (first time in use on gpl)- probably the latter

Sounds like you guys had fun as usual.
Sorry I couldnt be there to enjoy the fun but I think from the picture you`ll agree it was worth my while to miss this one Wink

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Taken at the National Motor Museum at Bealieu, near Southampton. The staff there were really good (enjoying an off-season quiet day) and allowed us to get right into the exhibits.
This particular Lotus 49 is chassis R3 and was used by Graham Hill for the second half of 1967.
