It's a tricky one Tony. (like everything in motorsport!  Grin)
Higher pressures can dissipate heat better as I remember it, but you've obviously still got to balance that with the fact the tyre will heat up and further gain pressure as it's used. So it can be a fair bit of work getting the right 'hot' pressure at the end of the process.

Think (will check later if you like) I had pressures ranging from 35 to about 40 psi for that race and ended up with good balanced temps still at the end.
I think I normally end up with the cold pressures in heavily used tyres being higher than unused tyres Smiley

i got my tyre pressures near spot on in the two stangs i had practised with, and also took off some front left camber to 'flatten' the tyre out under hard cornering and it worked a treat. Alas i hadnt done that with the stang i ended up in for the race and therefore suffered the front left overheating on the inside edge, causing wash out on the corner entries. You really need to check the P&G tyre manual for pressures for the different tyre combos on these car. Tyre testing does help if you perservere. I knocked a couple of secs off my lap times at Portland from the pressures i started with to what i ended up with. Do 3-4+ lap tests at a time using XD or Motec-add etc, escape to garage and tweak as necessary, then do another 3-4 laps. Any less than 3 laps is pointless as the tyre doesnt get up to temperature.

I always refer to the P&G tyre book cos I find that usually the default setups have way to much tyre pressure. I usually do about ten laps then pit and adjust the pressures all round to get them to be under the recommended max pressure when racing. Good tip about adjusting the camber for the problem tyre though. Hope I remember that tip.

It's not always possible though - GT40's are a particularly big pain in that regard!

I used to mess about with cambers a lot when I was fresh from GPL but I can't say that it ever appeared to have much effect.  These days I just try to adjust the pressures so that the middle temperature is roughly half way between the inner and outer.

As for my race, it was a bit quiet apart from the start, not that I'm complaining.  I like quiet and I daresay that when the handicaps have gained a proper foothold, and we don't have fast blokes in fast cars, there will be plenty of time for action later in the season.

I was off the line well, which meant that my main concern was not to belt John in the first corner.  We were side-by-side and I felt a lot happier once he had pulled in front.  The next excitement came at T1 on Lap 2, when I almost ran into the back of John and got well out of shape.  I was just far enough in front of Manteos to keep him behind and thankfully he dropped back after that.

John was chasing after the two Falcons ahead and I just did my best to keep up.  I could see John getting closer and closer to Ade and after a while there was a cloud of dust on the outside of the final turn and I found Ade recovering from an off.

I had a couple of laps in front of Ade but then also made a mistake at the last turn and he was back past me again.  I tried to stay in touch but my encountering a car to lap by running around the outside of T3 dropped me back a tad.  T3 gave me problems from day-one on this track and I could never match the speed that John was able to come out of there at.

Then it was just a drive to the finish.

Thanks to Tony for an interesting series and it will be interesting to see if we can continue to work out which cars we can drive in the next one.  I believe that inside-leg measurement and hat size come into it for the final round!
