Moderator's Report

A terrific start to the season at a pretty tough track for the Novices. Some close racing and very few incidents for the Novice moderator ;)

Well done to all the drivers, the season promises to be a classic.

Server replay time: 0h00m37s

Rotaxmax blows his engine off the line but then omits to visit the pits after the enforced Shift-R. He later blows another engine and retires voluntarily.

Pierre D also needs to ensure he remembers to take a Stop and Go EVERY time he uses a Shift-R.

The rules leave no latitude to the moderator. If any driver makes no attempt to take a Stop and Go at all, the driver MUST be excluded.

Hopefully this won't happen again this season. I don't like excluding anyone!

Server replay time: 0h03m13s

Badblood loses his steering wheel and pedals and thus slows markedly as he avoids the polos and congratulates himself on keeping going Johnnyboy re-appears after a healthy a dose of warp. Unfortunately they are both now on the same part of track. Badblood's race on a downward trajectory but Johnnyboy recovers very well. Neither driver does anything wrong and this is unfortunate.

Server replay time: 0h26m10s

Norm is coming up behind Pierre very fast and looks to dive down the inside to get ahead for the slow section. Pierre does not see Norm coming and takes his normal line. Norm is caught by surprise and brakes heavily to avoid a crash. He then spins. Al is also approaching by now but Norm judges (incorrectly) that he has time to spin the car round. Al avoids Norm by the skin of his teeth but takes a trip across the grass. An abashed Norm lets Al go. I have looked for mitigating circumstances and Norm did the right thing after a misjudgement but nonetheless, without Al taking avoiding action a car-mangling crash would have resulted.

Pierre could have been a little more helpful to Norm by taking a wider line but there were no flags to help him. Slower drivers do need to be aware of the leaders coming through - it is frustrating but when you are a lap down important to stay out of the way if possible.

Norm was approaching the corner at much higher speed than Pierre. His overtake was at a point where the gain was marginal but the downside risk was large. Drivers are reminded that patience is required on a tight twisty track.

Paul. Do I understand that correctly that if you go on at say 8.45pm over 30 minutes before the race starts a time you do counts in qually. If so that's more than our usual 30 mins qually.
Anyway in the hope of phsyching out my rivals Wink I have just done 2 fun races on the server & quallied in 1.12.48 & 1.12.14. Did me no good though - bumped off at turn one both times & by my standards a good start obviously slow by everyone else's. I would have liked to keep the 1.12.14 for tomorrow 'cos I HOPE it won't be far off. Race pace is what counts & that's a LOT LOT slower.

Blast... and triple blast...

I was hoping low 1:13 would put me high and I can definitely do it BUT at that pace I spin off every lap or two... Sad

We have done away with 30 mins qualifying because it was very hard to get the server started on time. We have moved to a system where there will be at least 30 mins qually but up to 60 mins. Reserves must leave the server between 35 and 30 minutes to go to ensure that Full Timers can get on. If they rejoin they should pick up their previous times.

Phew, that did not work for me tonight...

I left in 2 races the practice and rejoined with the same car, but my times were lost!

If the race is 32 laps would you fill with 32 laps of fuel or is there scope for ..ahem.. short filling.. and stopping for fuel.

A shift+r for tires or refueling is not allowed by the rules!

Those 65s have a low consumption, if you would stop you would never get back to your lost position Wink

I did a 250miles 67s race at Indy and stopped once for refueling and lost my lead, the winner did not stop!

Refueling was very dangerous in the 1960's, and was not allowed in F1.  At a GT race at Goodwood, a few years earlier, the pits burnt down after a refueling problem.  We do not want this!  Racing with too little race fuel is against the rules. 2guns

You need to test Jonnyboy. You may well find that you need nothing like as much as 32 laps...

Well that was HUGELY disappointing. Started late because I was trying to herd people into the servers so only ten mins left in qually and I couldn't get under 1:14. Been doing 1:13s regularly in training. After about three laps my steering wheel started wobbling and then it fell off... not sure who totalled me but I lost all drive and then had to wait for the whole field. Difficult after that. Then when Jason caught me (and I had hoped to stay clean and not get lapped) it was blue flag city.

Really difficult, then I took Nigel out when I lost it on T3 just as I was about to let him through (sorry mate). Then set about chasing Roberto and Economia. Got past EE when he made a mistake and then I returned the favour. Just wasn't good enough and I span it five or six times.

Shows that I have come on to be hugely disappointed with eleventh but I had the worst laptime consistency - partly down to slowing to get lapped but on the whole very frustrating.

Hard to get the modding and the racing balanced. Have been looking forward to this for weeks and I didn't really enjoy it Sad

WD to my mate Jason and well done to Rog and Al (who is the dark horse now?)

Finally, hope the debutants enjoyed it. Pierre and Phillipe did very well and kept it going - check out my first race at Mosport (S19) if you think I am kidding! And well done Johnnyboy - I assume your lobby name is John Pennington!

Hehehe Sergio... I doubt I will be too much of a threat for the series championship, my BT7 will be a sitting duck at the faster tracks! This race was almost perfect for me. Surfers is a track that suits the BT7 well and I had the car set up perfectly for it, it was so well balanced and I could throw it around with confidence. My race wasn't free of mistakes, in fact there were a few moments when I was really close to losing it but again the car was perfect and I could recover every error!
On the starting grid I was very concious of the fact that Surfers is not an easy track for passing and that the win would likely decided by backmarkers and lapping incidents. I was right. I mad a great start and moved from 4th to 3rd on the start straight. A lap or so later I made my only contested overtake, passing norm into T4. A lap or two later race leader Happy Al made a mistake exiting T3 and I out dragged him into T4. Al then put me under pressure for a few laps until we caught our first backmarker. Philippe was doing ok at the back, not bad speed for a new entrant but clearly wasn't sure how to be lapped... I made it past ok but when AL tried to follow me through Philippe turned in on him and there was contact resulting in Happy Al becoming a less-than-happy Al. Perhaps all new entrants  should watch Badbloods race for tips in how to be lapped... BB is the expert in this!
From there on all I had to do was keep the car on the road... Roguk kept me on my toes the whole way, never more than a few seconds behind, but I was driving well and the backmarkers were generally very considerate.
In all, my 105th UKGPL race was apretty good one Smiley
