Moderator's Report

A terrific start to the season at a pretty tough track for the Novices. Some close racing and very few incidents for the Novice moderator ;)

Well done to all the drivers, the season promises to be a classic.

Server replay time: 0h00m37s

Rotaxmax blows his engine off the line but then omits to visit the pits after the enforced Shift-R. He later blows another engine and retires voluntarily.

Pierre D also needs to ensure he remembers to take a Stop and Go EVERY time he uses a Shift-R.

The rules leave no latitude to the moderator. If any driver makes no attempt to take a Stop and Go at all, the driver MUST be excluded.

Hopefully this won't happen again this season. I don't like excluding anyone!

Server replay time: 0h03m13s

Badblood loses his steering wheel and pedals and thus slows markedly as he avoids the polos and congratulates himself on keeping going Johnnyboy re-appears after a healthy a dose of warp. Unfortunately they are both now on the same part of track. Badblood's race on a downward trajectory but Johnnyboy recovers very well. Neither driver does anything wrong and this is unfortunate.

Server replay time: 0h26m10s

Norm is coming up behind Pierre very fast and looks to dive down the inside to get ahead for the slow section. Pierre does not see Norm coming and takes his normal line. Norm is caught by surprise and brakes heavily to avoid a crash. He then spins. Al is also approaching by now but Norm judges (incorrectly) that he has time to spin the car round. Al avoids Norm by the skin of his teeth but takes a trip across the grass. An abashed Norm lets Al go. I have looked for mitigating circumstances and Norm did the right thing after a misjudgement but nonetheless, without Al taking avoiding action a car-mangling crash would have resulted.

Pierre could have been a little more helpful to Norm by taking a wider line but there were no flags to help him. Slower drivers do need to be aware of the leaders coming through - it is frustrating but when you are a lap down important to stay out of the way if possible.

Norm was approaching the corner at much higher speed than Pierre. His overtake was at a point where the gain was marginal but the downside risk was large. Drivers are reminded that patience is required on a tight twisty track.

Perhaps all new entrants  should watch Badbloods race for tips in how to be lapped... BB is the expert in this!

Thank you for the compliment, sort of.  Undecided

Hello,

Well done to Jason, Rog and Hendy Smiley

A great start to the new season, with some close racing and lots of drivers around the same pace. I think this is going to be a classic season.

I found it hard to get a clear lap in qually, with such a short circuit and lots of people trying to set their fastest times I kept finding myself catching people when I was settling into a rhythm. That being said I did match my PB from practice, so I started second, only 0.035 from a pole. I spent the end of last season chasing a pole, and never got one, always starting second, one of my goals for this season is to start from pole.

I have been practicing my starts off line, so I was annoyed at myself that I messed up my start slightly. Just goes to show that there is nothing like the adrenaline of a real race. I did manage to pull into a slight lead by the first corner, which I think Norm lifted slightly, so thank you Norm. After this I tried to pull out a lead but I couldn’t settle myself as I’m still not use to being in a lead. Jason was catching me, and was making himself known in my mirrors. I made a slight mistake going into turn 3 and he got past me.

I’d lost the lead but I think it settled me down a bit, as my consistency was much better after this. I managed to hold onto Jason and started to real him back in a little. We caught upto a back marker, Phillipe, who was driving nicely, but held up Jason just enough for me to be all over him. Going into the last corner Phillipe move wide and I thought he was letting us past. Jason got past without any problems and I followed him into the gap. At this point Phillipe turned in on me and resulted in a clash of wheel, and I spun out. I’ve got a feeling that Norm Hance was also caught up in this accident.

I got back onto track and started to recover some lost ground. I think I rejoined about 4th or so. I was following Norm at this point, and we were about the same pace. I think he must of made a mistake because I was suddenly a lot closer, and I could see him just in front of me. I settled down to do some of my best laps around this time and got onto the tail of Norm. I then made my only mistake of the race, going into turn 4 Norm had a spin, and because I was focused on him I also had a spin of my own. Feeling a little silly I got going again, and I found myself in front of Norm Hance Smiley don’t know how that happened, his spin must have been worst than mine.

Now with Norm all over the back of me, we got to doing some nice close racing laps. I was having a great time, as we were both quite evenly matched. We caught up to some more back markers, who where having their own battle. We caught them going into turn 2/3, they moved out of our way, or so I though so. Going into turn 3, the driver infront, who was Phillipe again, moved wide, which I though he was letting us past. I went for the gap and was along side him when he turned in. This cause me to have a massive crash which I needed to take a Shift & R. Again this crash also took out Norm, sorry again Norm, that’s 2 of my accidents that you were involved in.

I did my stop and go and resumed my race. I was now too far behind 3rd place, but 5th place was very close behind me. I pushed a little to get everything upto temp and managed to pull away a little from 5th place. I wasn’t really catching up to anyone in front so just drove the car to the flag. For some reason I thought I’d finished 3rd after the race, sorry to Hendy, as I think I did you a dis-service. No idea why I thought I’d finished 3rd, I guess I was just too hopeful.

Overall a great fun race, and a very close one too looking at the times in both the race and in qually. I think this is going to be a very close season with some good newcomers too, I hope you feel welcome and continue to build up your speed and consistency.

I really want to win a race this season, it’s my main goal. A podium would be a good start as I’ve only ever been on the podium once, back in season 16.

Onwards to the polo capital of the world, Mexico.

PS, lol at Badblood, I did say there would be a dark horse in the race, I just didn’t say who…….. and in my defence, I really was struggling for pace only a day before the race. It really did just suddenly click for me, I have to thank my teammate Geoff for coaching me on driving the BT11.

... Roguk kept me on my toes the whole way, never more than a few seconds behind, but I was driving well and the backmarkers were generally very considerate.
In all, my 105th UKGPL race was apretty good one Smiley

RGR that Jason,
no matter if you finish the race only one second in front the other guys, indeed it means it has been a very good and fought race, the must is...to finish in front the other guys or at least to be competitive and aggressive (respecting the rules obviously) !
Anyway if you've got pressure from behind all the time untill the finish line, your behaviour has been adequate to the situation and it is not so simple to stay calm.

Nice to get Pole although slower than Monday fun race for me & HappyAl.
Turn 1 becomes tight if your on pole so had to lift or cause a crash & HappyAl swept into the lead. Jason was pretty racy & passed me on lap 2. Then followed lots of laps where the gap between 1st & 4th opened & closed but Rog(4th) was rarely over a second behind me. Eventually I went a bit wide & he was past so I was 4th. After one of Al's many adventures I was back in 3rd but had a spin trying to lap someone which caused Al to spin as I tried to recover. Deliberately let Al resume ahead of me after this. Then went off making the classic novice error of hesitating as AL had yet another crash with a backmarker & messed up the bend & went off myself. ShiftR & S&G put me 7th. Was gaining on 6th place Nigel when he spun & that's where I finished, 6th.
Incidentally I always tried to press the arm raised button in thanks if I lapped anyone & they moved over ok so please don't take it as an angry shaken fist.
As Al said its difficult to build up some speed in qually when the track is so short & becomes crowded. I suppose I shouldn't be happy with 6th but I definitely didn't have the race pace for even a podium. Well done to the podium & I hope the new drivers enjoyed it. Commiserations to Paul not what he was hoping for in his new car. Its going to be as tough as ever.

I really enjoyed my first outing in the 65's and was pleased with 8th- although I had a big crash around lap 3 or 4 where I hit an invisible car that sent me upside down- I'm sorry if I spoilt anyone's race with this but cars disappearing and reappearing plagued me all race. I had a nice spell mid race with a little consistancy but that changed later on with several spins in one lap. I'm looking forward to the next race already- its nice to race with people who try to race and not shunt you off or drive the wrong way round. Thanks all- now where did I put my sumbrero....

Not a bad start for the season.
My bleached fezza did a good job with her default setup, I really can't complain about both qualify and race results.
A clean rae, without any problem on my side.
Grats to everybody raced and to the race organization.
See you all in Mexico!!

Quick question about moderator's report, are all incidents reviewed this year or just the reported one?

I have reviewed the first two laps and I will check Shift-R/Stop n Go but apart from that it is reported incidents only. It is not ideal but it is very time consuming and the lighter modding is to support the three servers.

Feel free to NOT report anything!!!

We had over 40 drivers out!

For any new drivers, if you want to report an incident in the race, you just click on the link under the race results and you can enter the details. It is useful to know what time the incident occurred and you can upload a clip (if it is small) from your own client replay. It may be different to the server replay and allow a different view of an incident.

No, this way is better. I won't be wreporting anything as I think it was just racing incidents rather than anything that needs looking at.

Hope it helps lighten your load.

Great race for me really enjoyed it, 3rd on grid but was down to 4th at 1st corner, next 8 laps trying to keep up with front 3 cars, lap 8 Happyal unfortunately lost 2nd place when lapping a car, i also got held up a bit, then on to catch up with front 2 cars, lap 12 got back behind NHance and lap 13 he went wide at turn 2 which let me pass, now trying to keep up with blito and keep NHance behind me, lap 21 resolved the NHance prob as he had incident with another car in turn 4, after that it was just a question of keeping cool and getting to end of race, no way could i seem to challenge blito his driving was spot on and deserved the win.
