LAP ONE RED ZONE: Full moderation from race start to end of Moss corner

Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by FULL moderation of the lap one Red Zone (see above) plus any other reported incidents, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

REPLAYS
Works is automatically posted at http://grandprix.xs4all.nl/ . When downloading please check the timetable for other races and DO NOT download while another race is being run.

The track was designed and built in the late 1950s, and held its first major race in 1961, the Player's 200, a sports car race bringing drivers from the world over to rural Ontario. Stirling Moss won the event in a Lotus 19. The proposed hairpin was expanded into two discrete corners, to be of greater challenge to the drivers and more interesting for the spectators, at his suggestion, and is named Moss Corner in his honour. This is a source of lingering confusion as many people call the track Mossport. It has had a succession of owners since the original public company created to build the track. Mosport achieved acclaim though a series of international sports car races under the title "Canadian Grand Prix" normally reserved for Formula 1 races. F1's Grand Prix of Canada remained at the track until 1977.
Unlike many historic motorsport venues, Mosport's track layout has remained mostly unchanged from its original form.

What a c**p weekend. Qual'd 5th for this and PSC race, didn't finish either. In the case of Mosport some t**t in a van was delivering something to my neighbour...at 9:40 on a Sunday!! He clearly wasn't too pleased about it either cos he slammed the back shutters down with such force I cr**ped myself.....just when I had to be focussing on braking for entry to Moss.....sorry to whoever hit me on the outside as I lay there with (as it turned out) 3 wheels, but you came across me just as I'd come to a halt and I was trying to work out if I still had a functioning car....

Apols for all the ** but I'm **** **** ******* ******* !!

The first race; a crash. The second; a disconnect. Seems me and the Works never get along  Sad. Well, onwards and upwards.

Well, it wasn't the return I was hoping for.

No problem Arf. I also made mistake there. I've went a little bit to wide into corner, unfortunately you were already there. Well that's racing and things like that do happen sometimes Wink

Had a couple of coming togethers with Malcom, sorry for that M, I think probably the first one is more on you, and the second more on me, but overtaking here is often going to be an inch from disaster. Really sorry for Johnny who for no fault of his own got involved at Moss and damaged his engine, and he had let me by just a few corners before  Sad ! Thank you for that anyway.

Not sure how my car stayed together after all those hits in the first 3 or 4 laps, but it did, probably it had all the suspensions symmetrically bent  Grin. Glad to have finished my first pro race, albeit a lap down  Embarrassed. Thanks for the racing, see you at the next one.

First laps were quite crowded, it seemed that i'm near the back of the tight train from 5th or so to 12th. But after a while, when Fulvio passed Hiro, i found myself trapped between two BRMs while most of the train disappeared off into the distance or off the track.

Being stuck alone with BRMs made me feel uneasy, so i left them to themselves and went off grass and gravelcutting at the end of the long straight. Can't believe that i made oh so rookie mistake by trying to outbrake Hiro round the outside there.

Some laps later i'm back where we started, 2 secs behind Hiro when i dropped it a bit and lost contact again.

On the last lap i'm again where we started, 2 secs behind Hiro. Going into Moss, there was Leader lapping Hiro and Hiro lapping Hannah, so i tried to get close to take advantage of the traffic jam. But just managed to trip myself over Hannah, sorry for that, my fault. And finished, yes you guessed it, 2 secs behind Hiro.

Anyway, my speed and consistency wasn't too bad, just need to acclimatise myself again to actually closely racing somebody.

I won't rant any more about Dragon's Nest, but i can say that i raced on another total fantasy track which i liked. It's called Jops Siffert, did you ever use it in UKGPL?

As the lone Waza and Honda driver against a sea of Brabhams, this race was not looking good. Several of the recent converts to WORKS are finding some serious pace and the qually times at the front of the grid were very close and very fast!!!
I think I managed a 10th place?? on the grid behind a lot of green stuff with occasional splash of red. The start allowed me to jump one place as a BRM bogged down and I was on to the tail of a Cooper ( Ronnie?? I think) who was trying to be safe and cautious on his cold tyres it seemed.
He was driving defensively and fairly around most of the track and I could see no way past without risking both of our cars, but on the straight the glorious Honda engine had horses to spare over that puny Italian lawnmower. I was eager to get past him because I could see the gaggle of Brabs easing away into the distance.
The first time I lined up a pass I think Ronnie was not expecting me to be that close and I had to back off to avoid the chance of a wheel on the grass or contact. But the next lap I got the exit from Moss that I wanted and picked up the tow early, so that as we crested the first rise I was going for the pass. I have yet to look at the replay, but I think it was a question of whose nerve held for the braking over that last hump. I could not see Ronnie, as he was in my blind spot, and tried to take a risky wide line to allow him some room on the inside. I saw a flash of green in my mirrors, but it was heading into the countryside and not following the tarmac!!.
I hope that I was not guilty of any contact Ron?
Next up were a couple of spinners at T3 and Moss which promoted me to 5th place  Grin. By now Fulvio, who had started at the back of the grid was winding up his Red thing and started to close the gap from behind. Once again the awesome power of the Honda gave me breathing space on the straight, but each lap Fulvio closed up as we approached Moss. This continued for several 100% laps until Fulvio made a mistake at T2 and went grass cutting on the hill.
After that the race got rather lonely and my concentration went at about half distance where i could not string a proper lap together and had 3 spins. A swift kick up my own backside, and I settled back into a steady pace to the finish. Another retirement when Raonni blew himself up on the last lap allowed me to creep up to 4th spot and steal more points than I expected from this round.

Grats to Joe for some stunning pace and to Raonni for FL ( and blowing his engine in the process  Wink ) It looks like there is some very serious talent at the fast end of the Works this season and there should be some very close racing  thumbup1

Can't say I like racing at Mosport much although it does seem to have been kind to me over the seasons. Very close qually across the grid - I was holding onto 2nd place until the end of the session when Bob snatched it by a whopping 0.007! Start was clean & I was pleased to be able to hang onto Joe & Bob for the first quarter of the race -then had a very near miss when I crested the hill at T4 to find Bob's car was in the process of transforming itself into a flaming pile of scrap - slammed on the brakes & squeezed through the inferno by the skin of my teeth... After that I had a very fast Doni on my tail & was having to push hard to stay ahead which is never comfortable at this track as the margins for error are so narrow. After what must have been half the race locked in a standoff with Doni, I glanced at Prib to see that something must have happened to him & now Raoni was some 12 seconds behind in 3rd. Any hopes for a nice relaxing drive to the flag were dispelled when I realised Raoni was going like a rocket in pursuit hammer so I needed to work really hard just to try & maintain a gap. Bad luck to Raoni for the engine blow right at the very end & congrats to Joe & Doni for the podium. Special thanks to the guys being lapped for making room  - not easy at this circuit.

Hi Clive. You made a good pass and as you made your getaway, I simply ran out of room and off the track by sticking to a line which was always going to close. No problem as far as I am concerned, just glad I did not spear you off track, well done on the 4th spot.

As for me driving like a carthorse early on, what do you expect from an Italian in a wheezing Cooper!!!

Gutted to take an early bath on this one, but from my praccy I have to say it was on the cards!!  Disappointed since I have managed to finish most races recently...though not without incident.  From the replay I dropped down to 3rd on entry to the 4th corner and the back came round, I was on full opposite lock before it bit back and went into that b@$*@!d barrier!  For a sec I thought I'd got away with it, but then the car flipped and a wheel came off before it rather impressively burst into flames!!!  Sorry to create an obstacle, for a sec I tried to drive it off the track as then engine still seemed to be working!!!

Well done to all the finishers, I need to learn to calm down  Shocked

Bob.
