Moderator's Report

Dave Rainier and Phil Thornton again took the top two steps of the podium, the Frenchman getting the win this time. They were joined by Martin Hunt, making it a great team result for Antipasti.

There were plenty of contenders for the top three places but this race was another example of the maxim, "To finish first, first you must finish".

Server replay time: 0h01m07s

Hendy spins at T2A and Nigel has no choice but to run into him. Hendy recovers but Nigel is left upside down and is then hit by Paul.

Server replay time: 0h08m47s

Nigel takes a stop and go for his lap one reset, however he stops four laps after the incident took place. Please note all stop and go penalties should be taken within two laps of a reset.

Server replay time: 0h10m48s

Billy has let Martin past on the back straight and resumes the racing line just as a fast closing Fran tries to lap him. Billy moves very slightly left towards Fran and contact occurs. In the aftermath Dave Curtis runs into Billy.

Server replay time: 0h12m29s

Billy slows on the back straight to let Fabio past, unfortunately neither car quite gives the other enough room and contact is made. Dave Curtis reprises his role from the previous lap and runs into Billy for a second time. As an encore Bernie, Hendy, Paul Markey and Fran all get involved too.

Server replay time: 0h26m12s

Phil follows Billy out of Moss and on to the back straight. Billy knows he is about to be lapped and backs off to help Phil, who is caught out somewhat. Although he manages to slow down a little, Phil hits the back of Billy and send him off track on the left.

Must have had a target painted on the Brabham tonight considering the amount of times I was rear ended. Had a quick look at the replay & the only one I have to put my hand up to was when I drifted across Fran. I don't think he was affected by the contact.

As always I tried to give the lapping cars plenty of room. Ross had a bit of a spin across by bows going into Moss - but I really didn't expect an overtaking move there.
Hopefully things will be a little quieter next time out.

Great race for me.  My strategy was to drive steadily and keep out of trouble.  Starting 8th on the grid with 5 of the drivers ahead of me under my PB (which I can't get anywhere near), I didn't have much choice.  The plan unravelled on lap 2 when I came across a couple of cars spinning up the hill on the long straight.  I had to take to the grass to avoid the carnage but I couldn't keep control and I ended up in the hedge.  Thankfully I could continue but I'd lost 3 or 4 places.

From then on I settled into a rhythm and gradually pulled a lot of places back thanks to several people going off.  I found myself in second place and starting to lap back markers.  I came across Billy on lap 18.  I got a good drive out of Moss and closed on Billy much quicker than I expected, I backed off but I nudged his gearbox and pushed him off the track.  Sorry Bill.  Thankfully he could continue but I'd lost my second place to Martin.  A few laps later Martin went a bit wide on the exit of turn 1 and spun out.  I inherited second place again but there was no way I was going to catch Dave Ranier.  I got the gap down to a respectable distance but Dave didn't make any mistakes and I couldn't close the gap.

Grats to Dave for the win and Martin on his fastest lap.  I didn't expect a podium given the times of the drivers on front of me on the grid.  I'm trying to heed my own advice, drive steadily and DON'T crash!

Thanks Paul....Smiley

I'm with you Phil, my PB is 1:23.198 round Mosport, but couldn't get within a bulls roar of it in Qually. Mind you, one flying lap then a crash next lap is no recipe for laying down good times. Not my favorite track and it showed today as I didn't relax and find any groove worth a penny. Managed to hold off Phil's Fezza into turn 1 off the start, then pull a small gap over the next few laps, whilst trying to keep the cars in front handy.....and stay on the island.......a tall order indeed. Had a couple of minor little incidents that did nothing but lose me a little block of time each, but then the leading pack were having dramas of their own as well. Ross chased me down after having a minor off and caught me out of T1 heading toward T2. I knew he was quicker than me, so I stayed left on the exit and let him by, only to see him run off and spin heading down the hill in T2. Actually managed to hold down 2nd for a few laps until I ran off at T2 and gave it all away. The biggest problem came heading toward the dip about 10 or 12 laps in, with yellows waving and Fabio pushing from behind....I slowed as much as I dared and crested the hill to see a whale stranding happening before my out-on-stalks eyes.    Shocked   Nigel on his nut on my line, Mick Turner just off the track to the right, and other cars all over the shop. With a perfect in off cannon, I glanced off Nigel, solidly kissed Mick Turner's stricken Fez, and went in the pocket behind the armco fence. Walter Lindrum would have been proud!!   laugh   The impact bounced Mick back onto the track and off he went.....leaving me to reset and take a stop & go which ruined any chance of a finish better than 5th. Lost the groove altogether at this point and fumbled along to the finish....just holding Dave off from lapping me in the end. A bit disappointed, but I finished in good points and have climbed to 4th in the title. It's not all bad then.... Wink
congrats to Dave, Phil and.......Martin! for holding down the podium positions. Particularly Dave who was unflappable here it seems....not a foot wrong all race. Well done the lapped drivers as well, all behaved impeccably.
Must do better in Sweden.
Geoff.

I was hopeful of a decent result here after getting on the front row and picking up the lead when Sky made a mistake early on. Sadly on lap three I had a strange moment braking for Moss, I've not checked the replay but I suspect the car might have bottomed out. Very annoying as I've tested on full tanks and never had any problems like that.

From then on I was playing catch up and still confident of getting second place behind Dave Rainier, however I seemed to get tangled up in incidents with other drivers, largely due to my impatience I have to admit. Geoff tried to let me by as we crested the rise into T2A but I got a wheel on the grass leaving room for him, and span off. Later on I gave Billy a fright when I thought he was letting me through at Moss, only to find the gap was less wide than my Brabham!!

About halfway through I was making progress again when I got the dreaded disco, which left me extremely fed up with the whole event!! Grrrr.

Anyway well done to the podium boys, looks like Phil and Dave are the men to beat at this early stage. Also kudos to Sky for his second pole in the last four Privateers races. See you all in Sweden in a fortnight.

It was time for a spot of Mosportizing, for which the weapon of choice came in red.  I'd found a nice durable setup, which meant, as the race ran it's coarse, I hoped to do so also.  But a mediocre practice, left a number of highly mobile stumbling blocks, strewn across my path to victory.  Sad

After a good start, I slotted me into 3rd or 4th spot, and commenced to dog team mate Francesco's tail.  An unexpected change of itinerary followed on the 2nd lap.  I was tucked into Fran's slipstream, out onto the back straight.  He missed a gear, I tagged his rear, and we commenced a merry dance - with only team mate Phil, taking up the offer to join in? Angry

After a brief whirl, it was back to racing, with all 3 apparently unscathed.  However, the prospect of our total race domination, was now starting to weaken.

There followed some of my most entertaining racing, thusfar in 67, as both Phil and I managed to work our way up, through a very competitive field.  We must've battled with almost everyone, at some stage. Until by mid race, it had come down to a 2 car Ferrari fest for 2nd.  I managed to nip briefly past Phil, but then managed to loose track of the track, without the use of his experimental late 60's Satnav.  Team leaders get preferential treatment, you know!  So I settled for P3.

Some great racing throughout, with impressive driving shown by all our newcomers, from where I sat.  A dominating win for David, and a brilliant display by Antipasti.  But perhaps not a good place to make a song and dance about it.  Grin

... drive steadily and DON'T crash!

That's also my racing strategy !
especially on difficult track like Mosport.

I was 3rd on the grid ...but only 5th after 100 meters  Cheesy  because 2 drivers from the 3rd or the 4th gridlines looks very excited !
So I was on a very nice position to see the 4 racers in front of me ...spun or collide, one after one, after less than 4 or 5 laps.
Sorry to be so sarcastic, but we really need to be extremely patient and prudent on such a track during 36 laps !

Then I tried to manage my advantage of 10 sec, 15 sec, 25sec maximum  on the second.
I have to thank all the backlappers (correct word ?) who did the maximum to let me overtake them ...even if sometimes it was not easy on this narrow track.

BRM is the slowest 1967 car, moreover it is heavy and not easy to drive in difficult track like Mosport.
Brabham and Cooper are better here, for a little more tokens Wink

Not the entire field Bernie; only the entire field who were still on the grey bit.

Keep up the good work.  Glad to see that you and Mike are upholding the honour.

PS  What the hell were you doing in a BRM at Mosport?  Do-it-yourself dentisty would be better!
