WELCOME TO THE UKGPL SEASON 22 HISTORIC (66) TROPHY

For the second round we go to Portugal. The Monsanto track, seems to be a bit driverconsuming, last season we had 16 drivers on the starting line and only 4 drivers took the chequered flag and 3 of them were lapped by the winner, so be aware.

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

The Red Zone is from start up Riding school.

Reserve drivers should not use the server between 35 and 30 minutes of qualifying to allow full timers to join.

Please restrict chat to a minimum, (or maybe none).

Best of luck.

Hehe - this was an exercise in frustration.... T7 crashed so I hurriedly prepared UKGPL_3 just in case. Joined T7 with.... 6 seconds to go and in my haste knocked my steering wheel out of the PC. No shift and no brakes... So throttle, steering, keypad 2 for brakes and auto shifting... In the circumstances I was pretty pleased with a 2:30... Bailed out when Clive passed me as I just couldn't be sure to keep out the way...

ah well, bed and lemsip...

to cap it all, I jumped the start because the auto shift kicked in and I couldn't find the brake.... loadsa black flags!

My great start to the season continues with what must be my most competitive Historic race ever.  Didn't get lapped and managed to keep King Hiro honest to claim 5th place.  I got under 2 mins for the first time in qually and managed to improve my PB several times in the race.  I went wide a few times chasing down KH but I didn't damage the car or loose much time but I was absolutely on the limit and not capable of going any faster.  I'm pretty sure KH had a bit in reserve because his fastest lap was better than mine, nevertheless it was worth trying to put him under pressure just in case he made a mistake.  Unlikely I know (in fact it is the big difference between the "Works" and "Privateer" drivers, the "Works" drivers don't make anywhere near as many mistakes) but I enjoyed the attempt.

Grats to Clive on the win and well done to all the finishers on a difficult track.

thought that might be the case when I saw your antics off the grid , my race wasn't much better , planned on taking things easy and get to the finish . Fine till I started getting confident , too confident in fact , got stuck in them haybales twice , first time managed to extracate myself after 5 minutes stomping on and off the gas while trying to make crop circles with the thing  Roll Eyes  2nd time got stuck fast , ran out of juice trying to get out  Undecided

Sad case of ambition overcoming ability   Undecided

grats to whover won (Clive ?) , to the podium and all else who made it to the chequered , salutations to those like me who fell by the wayside , keep yer peckers up ther's always another race  Smiley

The start was good  had a good fight with KingHiro untill the end of the 3round where KH let me pass him and from than on i did a attempt to find Goran who was in front of me but i couldent come closser to him we had a difference between 7/9 seconds and this stayed untill the and of the race .
Very glad/happy i made it for the whole race .
I had also a few moments where i thought . brrrrrrrrrr that was close to my funeral  Tongue

That was bloody good fun!
I came into qually having done zero practise for this and vague recollection of an early bath last time out at this track.. I chose to run the cooper as it was the car I used last season at Monsanto and the setup was very nice and stable. My qual time of 2:03 was done at a leisurely pace and with full fuel and thus I knew that from the back my only chance of making a points finish was to be cautious and that approach paid off with 7th at the flag. I had a few scary moments, twice had to use the banking in that horrid left hooker and once brushed the bales at the other tight leftie but otherwise I drove very steady. Biggest threat to me was in the early laps when Maddog Martin was running in close company with me - he clearly had some extra pace but he just couldnt keep it together and I was worried he was going to take me out... A couple of times I saw his desperate lunges well in advance and was able to move out of the way and then retake the position when he slid off.. his eventual demise was easily forseeable! By the end of the race I had found some decent pace, consistantly under 2:00, setting a PB of 1:57 on the final lap..
Over all, pretty pleased Smiley

After losing out badly in the opening round i needed to score some good points here to keep myself in touch with the faster guys in the championship. The problem at Monsanto is that pushing hard usually ends your race prematurely plus, as Jason said, it is so easy to be the joint victim of someone else's mistake  Undecided.

I used the same setup as last season ( although last season I was eased out of the race on lap1 Roll Eyes ) The 66 Waza has great bucket loads of power if you can set the gearing just right and for this race I had to set 1st gear for use out of the hairpin at the bottom of the hill, which meant that I struggled off the grid at the start.
Goran took full advantage of that and whipped his Brabham into the lead.  Sad

Once the Wazamobile was rolling I easily caught him and started to look for a way to get past him. I figured the safest place to be on this track is as far away from other cars as possible!! lol, which really means being in the lead if you can get there.

I did not expect Goran to make it easy for me in his Brabham, but I was hoping that I could force a small error from him whilst he was on cold tyres and full tanks. Then to my surprise he moved over and allowed me a free pass!!!! Shocked Shocked.
Well, Waza training means that you never question an opportunity, so I took the lead!
I suspect that Goran was being sneaky and hoping that I would crash out and leave him to pick up the pieces  Wink
The next few laps I pushed as hard as I could to try and build a safety gap, without getting stuck on those straw bales. Slowly I eased away until I had about 6-7 secs lead and from then on it was a case of just maitaining the gap as i lapped a few backmarkers.
For the last 10 laps I drove very carefully and was amazed to finish the race with 8 gallons of fuel in the tank and still comfortably ahead of Goran and Sven.

Grats to all the finishers, a triumph for anyone around this circuit.
Also thanks to those who sorted out the server problems just before the race  Wink Grin

Goran sorted out the server all on his own - I just wanted a backup, just in case...

Congrats to Clive and weel done indeed Goran for keeping calm while servers were melting around you. Looks like it is going to be another great Historics season. Already looking forward to La Belle France... I am sure I won't crash at the hairpin this time....

As Bernie already noticed, they make extremely thick hay at Monsanto. They are really gone to far with GMO modifications.

I got stuck in the hay on the left when my son suddenly entered my vision on the right at great speed while making a great noise. At least thats a variable which can be deleted from that scene in future.

Other positive development is my setup for 66 3L Brabham with which feels comfortable and produces serious laptimes. Only downside seems  to be that i'm incredibly slow on the straights.

Got overtaken by a few on the 1st lap, but got back on Al's tail very easily. Was sitting behind him pondering my slow straightline speed, when hay disaster struck.

Congrats to Clive and other 7 finishers. Which is almost 50% of the starters, not that bad for such track.

Are the results from replay visible anywhere without downloading replay itself. Like it is for 67W?

Had a good start & was running close behind Sven & Tom in the early laps but noticed I was being reeled in fast by the new Mk2 Phil "Turbo" Thornton... I attempted to find a bit more speed but only ended up in finding a bit more scenery & joined the spectators up on the bank at turn 1 to watch "Turbo" breeze by serenely. Set off in hot pursuit of Phil but found my concentration was now being severely challenged by the missus who was charging around the house chasing the cat who was in turn chasing a mouse that she'd just brought in & promptly let loose in the kitchen (I bet Graham Hill never had to put up with that!) The live action Tom & Jerry scenario unfolding around me prompted a few more errors & I soon found myself under attack from Andrea's Ferrari - this turned into a really nice battle for a few laps - Andrea made a good pass only to hand me an opportunity to retake the place but then Andrea sadly disappeared off into the boondocks & I was left in a lonely 6th. Tried hard to once again make an impression on Phil in the latter stages but the more I pushed the more the gap seemed to extend Undecided & finally I pushed just that little bit too far & ended up marooned in a haybale with just a few laps to go. Ah well, it was great fun while it lasted. Congrats to Evil, Goran & Sven plus all the finishers.
