All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (20 laps)

Track: 1970 Daytona Road course Download this

Cars allowed: Shelby Cobra Pack Download this, Shelby Cobra 289/427.

This race will use the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0.

Car restrictions: None

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: ROLLING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk SCC
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page

Special Notes: This race is flag started. However the flagman is out of sync with the in-game countdown and you could get a stop/go for a jumped start if you go with the flag. I would strongly suggest that the in-game countdown is switched on for this race.

Hi Guy's

I would like to join this seasons races but appear to no longer be able to connect to the server! Can anyone advise why this might be as I have previously not had a problem.

Have some settings been changed during the past year?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Ken

Hi Ken and welcome. You probably have an out of date Lobby file so try this. In your main GTL folder look for this file

LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT

Double click this file to open it and the content should read thus

94.23.231.41

If it doesn't then change it and save the file.

Get back to us if this doesn't fix things for you.

BTW there is a race tonight if your up for it. https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10165.msg185178#msg185178

Cheers

Well I'm glad we sorted that lobby problem for you Ken. But please note GTL events are now every MONDAY night, it's P&G every THURSDAY night for the foreseeable.

Excellent!

Nearer the time perhaps you should just check that you can join the server and do a couple of online laps, OK?

Just tried some spotter laps. OMG these things are basic. It's a big powerfull engine on 4 wheels. Brakes and steering are optional extra's.

Brake smoothly and well earlier than usual. Get around the bend then apply the power very slowly indeed. Too much and the rear want's to be in front.

Mind you, I'm sure we will be treated to some big drifting driving antics from those  alien's

Don't get me wrong. These are great cars. But just don't expect to drive them like you would the Tina or Alfa.

These bad boys demand respect and if you don't provide it you will be seeing an awful lot of barriers.

That Shelby Cobra pack is really great.

One silly question: all cars are allowed (260, 289, 289FIA and 427)?

Yes, for this first race you can choose any of them.

I would advise everyone to try a practice start here. There seems to be little grip on the startline banking & it seems to be very easy to lose the rear when pulling away with more than a whiff of throttle. In fact I would go so far as to suggest neutralising the first lap & have a rolling start.

I'd second that, otherwise I foresee a startline disaster. Have done about half a dozen practice starts here, most of them resulting in a spin. Anything more than the gentlest of touches on the throttle is too much.

Thanks for the input Gent's.

I must admit I had not tried practising start's but will do some now and post back here.

I take it everyone knows the procedure for rolling starts?

Never done one here. Do you do a single warm up lap with the leading car judging the speed and distance between the cars, and then floor it out of the last corner? Or does GTL has something built in to control the rolling start?

Never done one here. Do you do a single warm up lap with the leading car judging the speed and distance between the cars, and then floor it out of the last corner? Or does GTL has something built in to control the rolling start?

Starting Procedure - Rolling Starts without a pace car
Races will be started from a stationary grid.
The polesitting driver will be responsible for leading the field around for a formation lap.
The polesitter shall wait until the starting lights turn green before moving off. They should not go immediately after the grid formation countdown finishes, or the simulation will give them a stop and go penalty.
The other drivers will move off only when the driver who qualified ahead of them moves off.
Formation laps shall be driven in single file. The leader shall maintain a moderate pace which allows all cars, including those in slower classes, to warm their tyres and brakes without struggling to stay in touch with the car in front.
The leader should aim for a target speed on the straights of around:
GTL: 50mph (80km/h)
No driver shall use excessive acceleration or braking during the formation lap.
Drivers are encouraged to weave left and right to warm their tyres, and to warm their brakes by dragging them whilst under power.
During the formation lap, each driver is responsible for keeping a safe distance from the driver in front.
Drivers should endeavour to avoid getting too far behind or to close to the driver in front.
Approximately 20 seconds before crossing the start line the leader shall slow to pit speed and engage their pit lane speed limiter.
Each following driver shall close up directly behind the driver in front and also engage their limiter.
20 seconds is the recommended minimum time that the leader shall have their limiter engaged before the start line. Where there is any doubt as to the correct place to begin the final start formation, a longer delay is preferred to a shorter one.
Drivers should not attempt to warm their tyres aggressively after engaging their limiter.
The leader shall not disengage their limiter until they cross the start line.
Each following driver should only disengage their limiter when the driver directly ahead does.
If a driver is unable to disengage their limiter, they should pull over so that the following drivers can begin the race.
A car reaching the start/finish line may disengage its limiter even if the car ahead has not.
Any driver who because of a technical failure stops, or who leaves the track (either by mistake or because of a failure), is responsible for rejoining the formation lap safely.
This may mean waiting until the entire field has passed and rejoining in last place.
The driver shall not attempt to regain their original starting position.
