I personally think that the tyre wear is modelled effectively well. After all these cars used cross ply tyres that were probably standard issue road tyres. If you watch footage from the fifties, and there is some good stuff at Goodwood  Wink the cars would pit very often for tyres but not for fuel.

Performance car owners complained about lack of grip and tyre wear on cross ply tyres in motoring press in late 50s.  Changed to Michelin Radials on my TR2 transformed grip didn't own it  long enough to know about wear - only problem was smaller rolling radius and a lowering of gearing.  I think by mid fifties sports racing cars  wheelchair had moved on to racing tyres as I seem to remember reports of privately owned sports cars being driven to Le Mans and only needing change of tyres to enable them to compete.  rockon

Yes, I'm not saying it's modeled wrong, it seems realistic. Perhaps it was my setup, but also my driving, so I don't know. It's interesting to have tire wear as a factor though, more here than in the other mods we run.
