Moderator's Report

Round 2 and not many reports at all and everyone was careful at T1 except for....

me. and I am also the only driver to have appeared in every report :(

Good driving from everyone though and some great racing and ultimately Nigel got past me as he deserved...

This series is shaping up well. Hopefully Badblood will not appear in the next moderation...

Server replay time: 0h01m09s

Nigel brakes relatively early and catches Badblood by surprise. Despite Badblood's best efforts, he hits Nigel and spins him.

Although Badblood tried hard to avoid the accident, he was careless which could have been a major problem on Lap 1. This is a clear rear-end shunt.

The rules have this "Blatant Rear End Shunt: Penalty 2 Places
The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control."

As this is my shunt I have asked other Mods to have a look at this and as I did make an attempt (cack-handed) to avoid Nigel, there is mitigation. The consensus was to mitigate down to a Simple which attracts a 1 place penalty

Server replay time: 0h01m11s

Phillipe has made a good start but makes a classic novice mistake of braking too late and too hard. He loses the car and slides in to the armco. This bounces him back in to the path of Giovani who has nowhere to go. Phillipe ends up facing the wrong way.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

Phillipe is in a hurry to get going and misjudges how much room he has and tags the unfortunate Carlos Paz. Phillipe should have waited until all the cars had gone past safely. It is always dangerous to turn back onto the racing line, particularly on a fast entry corner such as T1 at Mexico.

The rules have this: The rejoining driver was NOT in full control but nevertheless attempted to drive straight back onto the racing line without any consideration for other drivers and contact was made.

Unfortunately, hard as I have looked I cannot find any excuses and this could have ruined a couple of races. I have decided that Phillipe was not in full control which would have meant three places lost. So two places penalty.

Drivers are reminded that if they spin they MUST wait until they are SURE that the track is clear.

UKGPL Season 22 65 Novices Trophy
Race 2 Mexico City

Welcome to the second round of the Novices Trophy for Season 22. Time for the men to be sorted from the boys. Having shaken off the rust at sunny Surfers with a tight twisty track with one really long straight we are going to a standard Papy track which has a really long start/finish straight and lots of tight twisty sections! Hmm, who chose these tracks?

Our second race is at the historic 2.747-mile race track "Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez" in Mexico City, named for the famous racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. This track first hosted F1 in 1962 when Ricardo was killed in practice for the non-championship event. Despite this inauspicious start the course was a staple of the F1 championship between 1963 and 1970. The 65 is again well suited to this track and should provide some close racing if we can avoid the deadly polos. However, be aware that it could be a little crowded when we get to the esses first time round. There will be crashes and patience is a must. The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will extend to the whole of the first lap.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular.

It is very important that drivers are FULLY familiar with the rules relating to Shift-R. EVERY Shift-R MUST be followed by a Stop-and-Go or the driver will be excluded.

Please see the Novices registration thread for an explanation of the chassis allocations shown below:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9196.0

Please ensure that you take a valid chassis for your group. I will be checking.

There are some new faces potentially amongst us who have been assigned to Group I

We set a part of the race to be moderated - we do not fully moderate the whole race any more. So any incidents in the red zone (in this case Lap 1) will be fully investigated whether they are reported by anyone or not. After that only reported incidents will be moderated.

OK?

Right - time to start the 'What's a good time?' debate. I can do 1:57 here which I think will be solid midfield but 6 secs shy of the lap record. Am I kidding myself?

My best sector times indicate a mid 54 but stringing them all together is another story...

Best sector times would get me to 1:55 but that does launch me in to the armco at several places....

1:57 is achievable and repeatable. I was wondering what others could run at as a realistic pace. There is work to do for sure but I am hopeful of a top ten. Mind you, I always am and then the race happens... Sad

Sad you are not around Jason...

Its easy to get false sector times at Mexico , take T1 for e.g.  the sector ends just after the turn in point so if you dive in too fast you get a great sector time but then you either run into the armco or at least your  exit speed is compromised giving a poor start to sector 2  Smiley

If they do carlos just reset (Shift-R) when it is safe to do so and then take a stop and go in the pits.

I suspect LOTS of people may have to reset...
