Moderator's Report

Three different winners in three races as Ross Neilson makes it to the top step of the podium this time. Hendy Nichols followed his Novices win with a good second place whilst Geoff Heard bagged third.

After three rounds it's close at the top in both the drivers' and teams' points chase as we head into the Christmas break.

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Martin brakes too late at T1 and hits the back of Billy. This incident could have been classed as blatant and attracted an extra place penalty however Billy did brake earlier than most other drivers did on the first lap at T1. Nevertheless Martin should have been more cautious.

  • maddog (Martin Hunt)penalty — Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 place (plus 1 for first lap) — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

Hendy makes a good start from third on the grid and closes in on second placed Fabio as they approach the right-handed T1. Hendy has the inside line whilst Fabio holds the outside. Fabio is ahead as they turn in and has a quicker line, so maintains second place whilst giving Hendy room. As they approach the middle of the corner Fabio slows and Hendy begins to draw alongside. Both drivers then try to claim claim the racing line for the late apex and contact is made, sending Fabio into the gravel trap whilst Hendy continues unhindered.

Server replay time: 0h09m59s

Dave Rainier brakes later than usual at T3 and runs into the left-hand side of Fran. Dave had not achieved any overlap at the point of turn in. It's likely he would have made the corner though, so this is class as "Very Ambitious" rather than "Impossibly Ambitious". The lack of any overlap means it can't be classed as anything less.

Server replay time: 0h12m45s

Geoff spins behind Phil as they slow for yellow flags at T7. Fran arrives shortly afterwards and tries to go around Geoff but contact is made.

Server replay time: 0h17m04s

Fran tries to pass Bernie on the inside of T3 but is going too quickly and cannot maintain his line, hitting the left-hand side of Bernie's car. Although Bernie briefly went onto the grass in the braking zone he maintained the outside line, giving Fran room for the pass.

Fran had less than 50% overlap, but had his brakes locked so was not in full control. Bernie was not in complete control either having a quick trip on and off the grass.

Server replay time: 0h40m33s

Fran blows his engine on the main straight and comes to a halt on the right-hand side of the track, off the racing line just before T7. Hendy and Fabio are a few seconds back, Hendy on the right because he has allowed Fabio to pass on the left. Unfortunately this has left Hendy heading straight for Fran and by the time he sees Fran it is too late and a heavy collision occurs.

Although Fran made an effort to get off the racing line, it would have been better (and just as simple) to move off track entirely by going left onto the grass. Nevertheless the penalty has been reduced from two places to one.

We're back in Europe for round three, at the Scandinavian Raceway in Sweden, better known as Anderstorp. Can anyone break the Thornton-Rainier stranglehold?

Race listiGOR
ServerUKGPL_GPG
IP address62.195.32.131
Date27-11-2011
Race timeRace starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying timeBetween 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
TrackAnderstorp, graphics update available here
Mod67
Damage modelINT
Race length24 laps

Reserve drivers please note; you must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes, to allow full timers to join.

The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start line to the exit of Gislaved (turn 5). Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Anderstorp hosted the Swedish Grand Prix six times from 1973 to 1978, Sweden's heyday in Formula One. After the deaths of Ronnie Peterson and Gunnar Nilsson interest was lost and the event was dropped. It did produce some notable winners though, Denny Hulme snatching the win from Peterson on the penultimate lap in 1973, the six-wheeled Tyrrells scoring a 1-2 in 1976 and the Brabham fan car dominating its only race in 1978.

It also features some cambered corners and the pits are not in the same place as the start/finish line; in fact the pit entry is awkward and worth practicing.

Highlights of the 1973 Swedish Grand Prix are available to watch here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dPwUDbUTxA

Yes probably Rainier Roll Eyes.  I've no tokens left so I'll have to take the BRM.  Without the power advantage of the Ferrari I won't be able to trouble Dave.

Hoping for a good race though, I've been trying to get my PB down but I'm still a second shy of the stunning BRM time set by Bernie in the last Graduates race we ran here in Season 19

Not even contemplated the other times, no idea how FMG got the BRM round here that quick!

I will send you the track, Cookie.

I see no trouble, in toppling these 2 pretenders to the Privateers throne, at Anderstorp.  I expect to finish ahead of both of them, provided they both agree to a 33 lap race. Grin

I will not choose the Ferrari for Anderstorp (neither the BRM Smiley ) !

But do not forget : Nurburgring and Mosport are well known papy tracks !  I never drove in Anderstorp !
I think there is a place for a 3rd man, here !!! maybe Ross ?

***PLEASE NOTE***

This race is now being run on GPG and will only be 24 laps now. Apologies for the late change but Works needs to run on T7 and I am unable to edit the number of laps on GPG.

Early bath club again!
Same as Friday - punted off half way down a straight because another driver could not hold a straight line!
Tried to make my way back to the track but struck an invisible object on route which spun me into Bernies path (sorry m8...) and found myself facing the wrong way down the track with the pack coming straight at me... I hit esc to avoid more carnage but a strongly worded incident report is going in tomorrow.....

Totally woeful. Sorry to one and all, especially Martin.

No more grads for me until I learn to control these brutes properly. Rubbish.

Mind you, hate Anderstorp.

Well, im running around the track with finely tuned honda, going third with 15 second gap to the driver behind, and im hoping for a well deserved podium position after long strike of awful races... And im actually beggining to enjoy the drive! Yeah... How foolish and ignorant of me to assume that GPL will allow me such heresy as enjoyment. Bang! Disco! Thank you! Youre welcome! Bye!

I was quite enjoying that until I got discoed  Angry

Qualified near the back as expected.  I just couldn't get the BRM round in under 1m 42s which was well off Ross's stunning pole.  There were a lot of incidents which gifted me a lot of places and with about 14 laps to go I was in 5th spot!  Fabio was all over me but every time he tried to get past he either spun out or ran wide.  He must have been sick of the sight of the big H16!  Anyway the field descended on me like a pack of wolves and before long I had started to drop down the order again.  At one stage Geoff disappeared from my rear view mirror so I held my line and hoped for the best, sure enough he reappeared ahead of me (my bad connection a sign of things to come?).  A couple of laps later I down shifted too early and spun the car allowing Fabio though.  I'm pretty sure I heard him cheering LOL.  Anyway shortly after that I got discoed.  Not a good result but at least I earned another 10 tokens  Grin

What a difficult race for me !
First I connected with only 14 minutes before start of the race.
Race was terrible from the begin to the end. my engine exploded (I did a shift R + Stop and Go), I hit one car (sorryfor that , I don't remember who was my victim), I was hitten by another car (then the driver, Fabio Locarno my teammate Smiley  , waited for me so no problem ! that's race !)

I could be very happy to finish 4rd and to become the new leader as Phil couldn't finish !
Ross did a great race and now he is one of the great favorite of this championship !

I never went to Mont Tremblant, hopefully there are almost 2 months for training !

I was pretty optimistic going into this race and got my first pole in ages, by a decent margin. I was bit surprised but perhaps I had more experience at this track than some, and the Ferrari was an advantage over the Brabhams, Coopers and BRMs that most others went for.

Anyway what looked like a simple cruise to the win was anything but! Towards the end of practice I started getting a lot of framerate problems, going as low as 24fps at some points, and no tweaking of the options made any difference. This made it hard to be consistent and so I took it easy early on.

By about halfway I was still going slower than I would have liked, but had a big gap to Hendy in second place so wasn't too worried. Then I blew the engine :O After a brief panic and change of underwear, I reset and pitted for my stop and go, resuming with a ten second lead. I managed to pull away despite the cold tyres and heavy fuel load and got the win, much to my relief.

Well done to Hendy who followed his maiden win with a solid second place, and teamie Geoff who got third. Clark-Hill are back in the hunt against the Pasties and the drivers' battle looks quite tight too. See you all in the New Year as we head back to Canada, this time Mont Tremblant.
