LAP ONE RED ZONE: Full moderation from race start to end of Jim Clark chicane

Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by FULL moderation of the lap one Red Zone (see above) plus any other reported incidents, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the Works championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

REPLAYS
Works is automatically posted at http://grandprix.xs4all.nl/ . When downloading please check the timetable for other races and DO NOT download while another race is being run.

Mods - race results seems to think i was 18 laps down in 13th place. Not true (well the 18 laps bit...) - I finished the race, albeit with a very sick little piggie, but I reckon I was only a few secs off the pace, so might have been lapped once. Didn't get a black flag.

Looking forward to finding out where I did finish....

It also appears from the replay that we ran a 30 lap race, not 33 as advertised......

Hands up to that plus sorry if the grid seemed a bit tight. Due to technical issues we had to do a last minute swapsie with the servers.

Can you do me a favor Arf and send a PM to remind me to check your final placing just in case I forget. Better still bung in an Incident Report that way it won't be missed.
Hence provisional results uploaded.

As always, replay is available here. Just select the Graduates (Works) series and click the download link. Analysis is available if you click on the Archive name.

That analysis is available directly from here.

The Replay .rar files are available here.

Nice livery JonnyO - did it survive?...

whistling  I received a plain brown envelope, in the quiet shadows behind the pits, from a fellow competitor just before this race in exchange for technical info on the Wazamobile. I now suspect that I was the victim of a dastardly scam by the "Green Meanies" to find the weak link in the all conquering Waza's armoury. Undecided

Joe Beefpie was awesomely quick in his Brabham and with Al not far behind him in qually in another Brabby, followed by a horde of other Brabs and BRMs I felt distinctly vulnerable around this track in my Honda.
As I have posted before this was a new track for me and although the layout was quite simple the camber and altitude changes made it a very tricky circuit to find the ideal line.

I think 3rd on that grid was better than I could have expected and I was more than pleased to find that I could keep pace with Al's Brabham in the early stages ( although Joe was in a class of his own and romped away into the distance!!).
I had promised myself that I would race for the finish here and not make any risky moves that would surely end in grief against one of those concrete walls!! After about 5 laps following Al I had a momentary lapse of concentration at the end of Dragon's Wing bend, just as it tightens ( a spot I had concentrated on during all my preparations as crucial for carrying speed through that tight right hander) I ran fractionally deep and missed the apex. My momentum took me wide and onto that narrow grass strip which slid me broadside into the wall.
For a moment I thought I had got away with it, but the hairpin left and the right hander onto the straight showed that the steering had been damaged. It took me a lap to find a way to drive around this problem, but that meant using 1st gear to make the back step out on corners..............something that was to cause my eventual retirement I think death

Al's Brab, was long gone by now and spin whilst coming to grips with the change of handling allowed Samb to close up in his BRM. The next few laps were an exercise in concentration as I fought the dodgy handling and tried to break away from Samb. I think Sam must have had a "moment" somewhere because he suddenly dropped back and I thought I was OK for a possible 3rd place.
WRONG!!! it's always the way in GPL, that when you think you have everything under control...you really havn't.  Undecided

I suspect that having to drop to 1st gear where I would have been in 2nd if the car was undamaged wrecked the internals of the engine and eventually it started blowing smoke on that fast sweep. It has been so long since i blew an engine that I could not remember if I had to complete 50% or 75% of the race to qualify for points, so i motored on at a steady speed trying to stay out of everyone's way ( apologies if I hindered anyone) Eventually , the few pistons that were still working broke and it was all over, but I had completed the 75% so i hope I get at least something from the race.

Grats to Joe and Al and whoever else finished this race on a circuit that was nnever designed with a 67 Honda in mind ( IMHO). I shall have to have a word with the person who chooses these tracks!!!  shifty

I didn't like this track from the first sight, don't like it any more now. Totally unsuited to my driving style and setups with all those long hairpins.

After that depressing first sight i stored away negatives and started practicing. And it paid off with decent result which could've been even more decent if the engine didn't blew on the last lap.

Right after the start i lost some positions what wasn't unexpected as i accidentaly qualified too high. When they got past i got into some sort of rythm and managed to keep Fulvio behind for a while. When he finally went thru, all those who went past me earlier somehow managed to find myself on my tail again.

This time with half tank, i found that i can stay ahead and not be swallowed again. All was going well and nice until the last lap when engine  went bang.

Anyway, i'm very 'appy since i managed a race with only 1 half spin and just 2 minor wall brushes at this hell of a track. Btw, i sort of hazily remember that i liked St Jovite from sometime long ago, hope thats still the case.

Blimey, 2nd place for the 3rd time in a row - talk about "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" Cheesy Not that I'm complaining - I'm rather pleased with that result especially as I feel I never really got to grips with this track. Was still trying to figure out the braking point(s?) for the end of Dragon's Wing-Hairpin entry during qualifying so was a bit surprised to line up 2nd on the grid but I guess I wasn't the only one finding it tricky. Slotted in behind Joe for the first few laps but was being harried along by Clive who was pedalling that bloated ol' Honda van impressively quickly. That dratted Dragon's Wing Hairpin still had me bamboozled & I could see Clive was gaining time on me there every lap - perhaps a bit too much time mind, because he eventually seemed to come a cropper there & disappeared from my mirrors. With some welcome breathing space behind I set about trying to reduce Joe's massive lead which didn't look too promising until he unexpectedly appeared within striking distance. I assumed he'd had an off somewhere so pushed harder to try & get right on his tail however this probably wasn't the ideal time to start exploring the previously-uncharted limits & a firm reminder of that came when I whacked the wall pretty hard at you-know-where. Fortunately my Brabham seemed to be undamaged & after that I decided that it might be more prudent to keep at least 4 wheels on the car so reverted back to a less ambitious pace. Had a bit of a scare when lapping Arf Arf as his car was warping a bit & hopping about ahead so I was trying to give him as wide a berth as possible when passing to avoid any warp contact. Congrats to Joe (perhaps I should set that as my sig to avoid having to type it every race Wink) & Fulvio for the podium & all other finishers.

Good fun that. Just a shame I made so many errors this race, but I'm just glad to have finished after the previous two races. Quite pleased to bag 4th, even if it was fortunate. There may have been a podium on offer, but the rear end of my BRM decided otherwise  Wink.

Congrats to everyone on the podium  Smiley.

I was enjoying my race until I became the first casualty of the Dragon's Den.
I remember running out 3rd gear on the front straight and pulling 4th as I was starting lap 12 when pop and then silence....
I pulled over on to the grass on the pit exit and tried to get some sound from the engine but that was not going to happen.
As I retired I read the reason for my DNF and it said that I blew my camshaft.
It is rare that I do not finish a race and this concerns me because it happened to me twice in practice. I tried to find something on the internet to give me a clue as to why this might of happened and did not find anything.
I know that with my set up that if I hauled out of the Clarke Chicane my inside rear would bust free temporarily so I adjusted my exit slightly and the problem went away.
Could any of you please give information to sort this problem out?

By the way, shortly after my exit the casualties started to coming.

Thanks, Malcolm
