Moderator's Report

Monza is a fast track with lots of racing opportunities and plenty of tow. It requires the drivers to help each other. Largely this was achieved. Couple of sinners though...

Side by side contacts are very common at Monza and drivers are reminded of the preamble to the relevant rules: The limited lateral view in GPL makes incidents of this type very likely. However they can be avoided if drivers are cognizant of the position, or expected position, of other cars. This requires the development of a sixth sense to be sure where all the other cars are, especially on the first lap. However, if in doubt drivers should always leave room.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

Bernie gets it wide at Curva Grande and is rail riding (tsk tsk!). He is slowed and attempts to free himself by steering right. When the armco gives up he is spat back onto the track into the path of the luckless Du Fossa who has nowhere to go. Du Fossa can continue but soon gives up to build sandcastles at Parabolica. Bernie resets and heads to the pits for a dressing dwn by his crew.

Bernie is experienced enough to know that this was likely to happen and he should have taken more care. Especially on Lap 1

The best fit in the rules is this: "The rejoining driver was NOT in full control but nevertheless attempted to drive straight back onto the racing line without any consideration for other drivers and contact was made."

This would normally attract a two place penalty but since this was not a voluntary rejoin I have mitigated the penalty to one place. Sadly for Bernie Lap 1 takes it back up to two :(

Server replay time: 0h02m10s

Sky over rotates the car into Parabolica and makes contact with Ronnies left rear. Ronnie had a slight lead at the point of impact. Sky really should have left more room although he may have been surprised by just how quickly Ronnie closed the gap.

The rules have this: "In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver moves over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Penalty for driver that moves over."

 • s2173 (Skymole 2173 -m65)penalty — Simple Side by Side contact plus one place for red zone — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Server replay time: 0h13m30s

Geoff gets a good run on Fran out of Ascari. Fran defends the line but Geoff has overlap. Fran drives into Geoff spinning both cars. A blameless Ivan is caught up in the carnage.

The rules have this: "In a corner, after a legitimate overtaking attempt the cars end up side by side. One driver moves over instead of staying on their own side of the track. Contact is made. Penalty for driver that moves over."

Server replay time: 0h15m59s

Geoff gets a tow from Sky down to Parabolica and passes him on the outside. Sky leaves the braking too late on the tight inside and swerves to the left, taking Geoff out and ending his race.

The best fit in the rules is this: "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended."

UKGPL Season 22 65 Intermediates Trophy
Race 3 Monza

Due to the server crash we had at the Cerne's Wood race, we will have a rerun on the well known Monza circuit

Welcome to the third round of the Intermediates Trophy for Season 22.
Note that after this race we will be re-assessing the chassis allocations so if you want us to be kind, you'd best not win Wink

As with the previous tracks, there will be crashes and patience is a must. The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will extend to the last corner of the first lap Parabolica

Please check the Season 22 pages for details regarding rules and the Intermediates Trophy pages in particular.

Please see the Intermediates registration thread for an explanation of the chassis allocations shown below:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10017.0

Please ensure that you take a valid chassis for your group. Cookie and I will be keeping an eye on you!

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Intermediates races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the red zone on Lap 1, at least, will be moderated. For this race, the red zone extends to the straight before the start/finish line.

Hopelessly off the pace , couldnt get anywhere near the times Ronnie and co were posting in spite of hours of practise  Embarrassed

Race was sh*t too , found it hard to concentrate on track so decided to call in on grandma's house , thought I would take the short route from T1 but stuffed it up the banking , car flipped , so did my patience  Huh

Then I  hit Esc. instead of  s/r  Undecided

Not a big problem as the server crashed after a mass disco...

I was just lapping Francesco when he suddenly disappeared.
In Prib I saw Ronnie and David too far behind, then my screen went black...

We will try to do a compensation race on next Tuesday!

Maybe Monza or Watkins Glen...

sorry  :'(

Didn't really learn this track - apart from the fact there are lots of opportunities to crash & very few exact reference points as brake markers.
Realised Chelsea were playing Champions League so it was touch & go whether I'd start. 3-0 & cruiisng on 89 minutes so I jumped on the server at the very end of qually. Less than 10 cars on the grid!
Two options here - flat out & crash every 2 or 3 laps or work my way round slowly. Went for the latter.
All things considered a re-run on a proper race track next week should be more entertaining. Either Watkins or Monza are fine with me.

I was laid low with a stomach bug but I'll be honest, I don't like this track (don't think I am alone in that either!!).

As Vos says though it would be a shame to ditch it completely so perhaps we can try a fun race there another time, after all Novices were fine. Best not to take any chances with the re-run so Monza or Watkins seems a solid choice.

Gotta disagree with everyone I think? But this is a fantastic track. Sure its not great to pass on but unlike say Opatija its a joy to drive! If we are going to rerun a race next Tuesday some advance confirmation of track asap would be helpful for use of limited practice time.

Hey Ray, not with me as I love this track too!

For the rerun we will take a well known papy.

I would prefer Monza... Roll Eyes

Re visited the track today for a few laps , managed to get into the low 1m51's with a tweeked BRM set up , far better than the 1m55's I posted in race but still way off the pace , just can't seem to get the hang of these itzy bitzy cars

Thought the track was interesting and easy enough to drive though a couple of corners needed some considerable thought , In fact I  would say some corners need conciderably more thought than I seem capable of , think there is a lot to be gained from corner lines but they are not obvious and seems you have to make use of the road camber in places to get the best from this track  Smiley

Then again I could be talking total pole liks  Roll Eyes

Not pleased     censored censored censored.....      oops     Apologies Axel for contact in Lesmo 2, did you miss a gear? You nearly stopped in front of me, relatively speaking of course. Then got taken out by Fran into Ascari who'd not been on the server with us all week, and doesn't seem to understand the nature of Monza. When people disappear from your mirrors with a run on you, they are passing.....leave room!!    Hit with a wet fish    One reset and stop n go later....The final straw was getting punted off by Sky in Para, who had been on the server with us all week, and still made a numpty mistake on the brakes, and left me on my nut against the hedge. Not a good record for being taken out at Monza.

Practised everything for this race , except the START  Embarrassed  Quallied OK in 5th ? but got eaten up off the grid and lost what seemed like a dozen places . Then on the run into Curva Grande the car in front at the time ( J Jo )  ? decided to move over onto the same apex I was heading for , swerved to avoid the collision but ended up rail riding then coming unstuck off the armco into the center of the track , tried to correct the thing but couldn stop it  Undecided

appologies to  who ever it was following for my road block    Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

after the stop go it was a lonely race till I caught Billy and Sky up who must have had a moment somewhere , then J Jo joined the fun for a while but it didn't last as all 3 seemed to get bored at various times and went looking for alternative amusement  , so back on my lonesome for the last 10 laps or so  Roll Eyes

Grats to the Pods and sorry again for the L1 misdemeanor
