All SimRacing.co.uk GTL drivers,

To test different championship formats and nail down how we will proceed with UKGTL Season 1 we will be running a hectic schedule of GTL Season 0 races. We will try out various race distances, time of day settings, track types and so on. We want to establish what is good and not good for GTL league racing and find out what people like and dislike. No better way to find this out than trying lots of combinations so this is what UKGTL Season 0 will do.

Obviously there are a lot of combinations of racing we could try, so we have come up with the following 3 mini season 0s that we will run starting 15th January.

All will be run with all aids off except Auto-Clutch and run at Professional level using GTL v1.1, normal tyre, fuel and mechanical wear settings.

Season 0 - A - TC65 Cars - 6 Races
Tracks - 2 short tracks, 2 medium tracks and 2 GP tracks.
Cars allowed - any car in the TC-65 class. (If it becomes obvious that one car is clearly making all the others eat dust then this may change.)
Race distance - 3 race distances of 20 mins, 30 mins and 40 mins tried during the 6 races (times will be approximate as it's based on lap count)
Time of day setting - 1 night race, 1 dawn race, 1 dusk race and 3 day races.
Starts - All standing starts

Season 0 - B - GTC65 Cars - 6 Races
Tracks - 2 short tracks, 2 medium tracks and 2 GP tracks.
Cars allowed - any car in the GTC-65 class.

Season 0 - C - GTC76 Cars - 6 Races
Tracks - 2 short tracks, 2 medium tracks and 2 GP tracks.
Cars allowed - any car in the GTC-76class.
Starts - Rolling starts (as per UKGTR races - 1 lap led by pole sitter at steady pace).

Important notes:
1) No season 0 registration is necessary, just being a member of the SimRacing forums is enough.
2) There will be moderation of the races. This means we expect drivers to submit incidents reports as per the SimRacing rules. Moderation is likely to be done selectively and concentrate on starts of races and other major incidents (there is too much to do in a short space of time to do full moderation (unless there are very few incidents)).
3) With so many races in a week, it is not expected that all GTL racers will take part in every race. Come along to what you feel you can and want to.
4) Please provide feedback in the race threads (when they are entered into the calendar) to what you liked or disliked about any given race, what worked and what didn't, e.g. Car Z is so much quicker than Cars A and B that it it might be a good idea to not allow it. Bear in mind things like how fast a driver is normally.
5) Rules will be the same as those listed for GTR here, except for Starting Procedure, Championship Format, Joining Procedure and Technical Regulations which will alter depending on the format being tested (stated in brief above). Please make sure you have read at least the Driving Standards section of the SimRacing rules before racing.
6) Points system for Season 0 is not yet finalised.
7) Depending on how Season 0 A goes, Season 0 B and C may be reduced in size or specification.
8) Server space is limited to 24 drivers. Spaces are on a first come first served basis.

Sorry for such a long announcement.

Regards.

SimRacing Administration Team.

I'm very much looking forward to these races.  However, would it be possible to have a mix of rolling and grid starts on all the classes to see how each works?  Grid starts often lead to contact through people getting a jump on the people ahead of them (I seem to be forever getting a "friendly" nudge up the rear on the grid starts), and if we are planning to have a rolling start on one class, why not have them on them all?  Although I do like the grid starts I think for the purpose of an incident free first lap and less T1 incidents (as the pack will be less bunched up) a rolling start would be better.

Just my two-pennoths worth for what might be worth looking into.

We can try a few different starting techniques without needing a whole race after it. The fun races we've done so far all back up my gut feeling that the TC-65 cars are slow and robust enough to resist a standing start, and that the '76 cars are too fast to risk it.

The jury's still out on the GTC-65 cars but the Season 0 races will use standing starts, and we'll only review that if we get carnage at the start of the first 3 or 4 races, as a standing start is much simpler in terms of the procedure the drivers have to remember.

We did standing starts in UKGPL, we were helped a little by modified grid spacing but you learn to respect the other drivers and soon get the hang of clean starts. They certainly are more exciting that rolling starts Wink

My biggest worry with GTL is contact doesn't result in mayhem every incident. I'm concerned that this means people will be more 'ambitious' making moderating a more difficult task and appeals more prevalent. So lets drive with consideration for others as we are forced to in GTR  Kiss

Great, can't wait to start Grin. I am sure the racing will get better, and less frantic, as preparations begin.

It sounds like every car Leuven drives might be disqualified for being to fast. Just don't take my fave, the Cobra, please  Wink.

LOL, however, seriously it would be fantastic if this game had weight penalities we could apply to either drivers or cars to make keep things even (certainly the cars). Nevermind, maybe next time.  Wink

As the announcement says the events will be open sessions with no registration, so you'll be able to join as and when you like (subject to space on the server of course).
