Five in a row for Joe, what does his Mum put in that beef pie? Attilio secures his best result of the season so far with second and Bob takes third.

No moderating to do here; the red zone was clean and there were no reported incidents. Keep it up chaps!

The first Works race after the xmas break takes us to Mont-Tremblant / St Jovite in Canada. Beefpie currently heads up the table but the championship is still very much open.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_Gpg
IP address = 62.195.32.131
Race Date = 22-01-2012
Race Time =  race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying time = 30 - 60 minutes (ie no later then 21:00)
Track = Mont-Tremblant / St Jovite
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 30)
Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the Works championship standings page.
The track can be downloaded from : http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=121
Add-on’s available at : per track link
Reserve Drivers =  You must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes, to allow full timers to join (note this requirement is currently suspended for the Works competition)
Reported incidents modded
Full moderation of lap one red zone

LAP ONE RED ZONE: Full moderation from race start to end of The Esses

Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by FULL moderation of the lap one Red Zone (see above) plus any other reported incidents, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the Works championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

REPLAYS
Works is automatically posted at http://grandprix.xs4all.nl/ . When downloading please check the timetable for other races and DO NOT download while another race is being run.
ALTERNATIVELY it will also be posted here: http://ukgpl3.dyndns.org/inc_replaysS22_js.htm#

The Mont-Tremblant circuit is legendary as a world-class racing facility and has hosted many of the world's most famous drivers and cars. The 1.6 mile north loop opened in 1964, with the first race on August 3rd. The south loop/extension was completed a year later, with the first race on the 2.65 mile full course on September 1st, 1965. A 2.8 mile variant was used at one point in time in 1965. The first ever Can-Am race was held at Mont Tremblant in 1966. The Canadian Grand Prix was held here in 1968 and 1970. The track is located near Mont-Tremblant Village in Quebec.
The track still continues to operate.

The graphics on the normal dowload are terrible - holes in the scenery, blurred areas on the screen. There are fixes which Cookie has kindly uploaded - go to this thread & follow the link. https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=10357.0
I've downloaded it - probably doing something wrong because it still looks crap. Will sit this one out & catch you up at the next round.

The track has always looked ugly, with or without addons. It's just because it's old. That doesn't detract from the great flow of the layout though. Once you focus on the driving you barely pay attention to graphics.

I suppose there is a flow to it...finding the track very demanding but after several practice sessions I am now able to exit the first corner the right way round  Grin

There also seems to be minimal run-off, only a car width or two before you ping off the invisible barrier.  I have tested this extensively   Tongue

Struggling to break 1:40 in any of the cars I've tried, a look at gplrank shows several of our guys have managed 1:37s or quicker...could be a tough race.

Struggling , 1m40 ,  you call that a struggle   Roll Eyes

My best lappery is around the 1m44 mark ,  to get below 1m40 not to mention an alien 1m37 is way beyond me  Embarrassed

It's crucial to always be either accelerating or decelerating as close to the limit of the tires as possible. Try not to let the car just roll on its own or keep it going at even speed. Also don't brake too deep into those long sweeping bends, but rather position the car early and then gradually accelerate out of the turn.

I was always going to struggle against the Brabhams around here. Something about this track just suits that Green thing perfectly. :'(

I hoped to pick up a few places through attrition and score a few points but all that went up in a puff of smoke when GPL kindly switched my race setup for the default!!!! Undecided I know that I had selected my race setup because I tweaked  the diff as we went to the grid.

I have been having some gremlins crawling around my setups just lately. Some setups I can access and use without issue off line, but when I join a server on Igor...they they are GONE!!! I go back and check the GPL directory and lo and behold there are all the setups sitting in the relevant driver folder.Huh??
It seems that Igor takes a dislike to some setups and not others.  Undecided

Hope you all had fun, all I get is an early bath!! Sad

Hey Mr. Evil,

This may be well off (& apologies for the resulting ramble);  but could that issue be due to having GPL patched to v1.3?

I'm in no way an authority, but I *think* that v1.2 setups will work in v1.3;  but setups created when running 1.3 patch won't work on GPL v1.2...

Maybe when you are running offline, you are using v1.3,  but when online iGOR is using v1.2 .exe ?

(or maybe it is something else completely,  or your machine is just playing with you?!).

Cheers,
Dave.

hmmmm an interesting idea Dave.
 But, I don't think that is the cause as I use Gem to start GPL both off and on line, so I would presume that it is using the same patch for both actions?  unless of course someone knows differently?

Hi Clive,

A couple of thoughts on your gremlins. I noticed when you joined the server you were called 65_Clive or something like that so I wonder if your driver profiles have got mixed up in GEM - unless you rejoined again with your 67 driver? Other than that, I did have a whole host of problems a couple of years ago which must have been something corrupted in GEM as a complete uninstall/reinstall of GEM cured everything. Of course it could just be down to sabotage from Clark Hill's crack hacker squad...

You might be right Al, if you hover over Clive's name in the results the tool tip says Evil Clive65 so it would seem Clive used his 65 profile by accident. I've done this a few times myself, for some reason the dropdown list in iGOR always seems to pre-select my 65 profile when I am joining a 67 race. Annoying!

Sorry to be so confusing but.......

I used my "65 evilclive" profile for all 65 and 67 races ( I don't actually have a 67 profile  Roll Eyes ) because I figured that I could easily identify my setups with a simple '65 or '67 suffix which works fine, as long as they appear on the available setups list.
The reason is simply my laziness, when the 65's came out I simply amended my identity to "65 evilclive" to cover everything  Grin

At the time I was doing the GBGPL69 series so I set up a 69 evil identity to cover that, and with the appearance of the GT's and F2's I decided that I should do things proper and made new profiles.

So, it ain't because of the evilclive 65 driver identity!!

The race was not a very competative one for me as I had done no practice at all in 67's for some time.  Fortunately there was a fun race in another mod at the track recently so I could at least find my way around.

I was expecting to pootle around at the back somewhere and was amazed to end up getting 6th due to others misfortune.  It was nice of Fulvio to keep me company due to his setup reverting to default and giving him full tanks to play with but he managed to keep it on the road and pointing the right way so not allowing me to advance any further.  I think I was marginally faster, as I should be with much less fuel, but not enough to make any sort of clean pass attempt so it was a case of waiting for a significant error, which never happened, at least while I was in a position to do anything about it.

Looks like I would have been far more compatative in Privs.

Well done to all who finished this tricky track.
