Moderator's Report

Once again there were no reported incidents for this GT race. I think that the standard of behaviour with these cars has been exemplarary so far this season. Give yourselves a big round of applause :o).

Silverstone usually provides some good racing, as everyone knows the track so well. Plus it offers enough overtaking opportunities and places to make mistakes.

Team Godzilla continue to lead the pack in terms of race successes with their Mk2 Fords which seem to have seen off the challenge from the Lola T70's which dominated early in the season. Although a certain Porsche pushed Mark all the way to the line in this race the Mk2 was still in front at the finish.

There was a multi car incident at Stowe on the first racing lap, but that was as a result of a genuine mistake by Sky and I think we put that down as a Racing Incident.

UKGPL Season 22 GT Teams Championship
Race 8 Silverstone

 Race number 8 and a return to the UK for our GT's.
The popular Silverstone papyrus circuit should give us some close racing throughout the field.

THE UK HAS SWITCHED TO SUMMER TIME AND THE RACE WILL START 1 HOUR EARLIER IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE UK
The point at which the racing will start on the rolling lap will be as cars ENTER the S/F straight from Woodcote, which on this circuit is just about on the S/F line.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details regarding rules and the GT Teams Championship pages in particular.

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left so as to give the FULL TIME drivers chance to join, and drivers are not to go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The GT races are run under Int Long rules and there will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers are reminded that they are limited to ONE Shift-R

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Race List = iGOR
Server = T7_2
IP address =62.149.202.168
Race date = 25/03/2011
Time = 21:00 UK time
Track = Silverstone
Variant = GT mod
Damage Model = Int
Qualifying time = 30 minutes
Race length = 35 laps
Password: see above

There will be rolling starts for all races with full moderation of both the warm-up and first lap.

Guidelines for rolling starts...

The car on pole will lead off the grid and maintain a steady pace for the 1st lap around 175kph
All drivers should form up in single file behind him leaving 3-4 car lengths between each car.
There is NO OVERTAKING on the 1st lap until the exit of the last corner.
It is the reponsibility of the lead car to ensure that all drivers are with him as he approaches the final corner.
Racing and overtaking begin AFTER the exit of the last corner, so you may overtake between the exit of the last corner and the S/F line.

Any driver who loses his position on the rolling lap, by going off, blowing his engine or through contact with another car ( regardless of fault) must rejoin at the back of the field.
Incidents on the rolling lap ( Lap 1) will be fully modded and anyone found to have caused another competitor to lose position through bad driving will be penalised appropriately.
Also, please make sure that you know which car you should be following on the rolling lap, so that you do NOT get out of position.

The teams have been chosen and the cars are polished and ready to go.

Could we perhaps publish the intrusion to our race calendar, of a time change? Those of us in the Colonies need to know this information, or we turn up for races 1 hour late!   Huh Huh

Ooops. It was on the race post Geoff Sad

It is always the last Sunday in March for clocks forward and the last in October for backwards.

Pity I couldn't make it. I like Silverstone but I see Mark managed without me!

Sorry to hear you had trouble again Jason.  I've had frame rate problems too this season.  I'm pretty sure Pribluda is causing the problems for me.  I uninstalled it and frame rate is a solid 36 FPS,  install it and I get variable frame rate (sometimes OK and other times < 20FPS - undrivable), uninstall it and I'm back to 36FPS.  To be honest it is probably an incompatibility issue with my system (because a lot of people have Pribluda installed with no issues).

Are you using the V2 rasterizers?, you need them for this mod.  Otherwise the frame rate is crap.

The race itself was good for me.  Joined qually late (helping my son with his homework) so only got 10 mins in and had to use my setup from the last round.  So I was quite far back at the start but I managed to work my way up to 4th by the finish, thanks to my team mate Donni who let me by for a formation finish.  To be honest I wasn't sure it was Donni (because I can't use Prib) so I had to rely on the pit boards which didn't seem to be working very well.

Had a slow start when the flag dropped..fiddled a bit with the clutch and I got hit from behind. Didn t understand the why such hurry though. On first racelap there was an incident. Everyone  managed to brake in time xpt one of the cars from the back of the field and I was sent backwards out of the track. Some more cars got involved too I think. Luckily I went unharmed on and tried my best to catch Doni and Phil after I passed Fulvio who had an off. It was exciting but our speeds were so close to even that I ended at 6 th couple of  secs behind Doni.
Gz to Mark and his Ford.Nice to see Al on the pole . Great work by Evil in the Porker. It s evident that I don t use that car to it s full potential.

Another admirable performance from Mark to score a fine win in the BIG MK2 Ford.  Really swell stuff.  I look to Mark...and Alex, too...as the benchmark for speed in these honkers.

Evil just OUT THERE in finishing as Mark's shadow in the tiny Porker.  Scoring FTD is just jaw-dropping.  Take a bow, Clive!

A fine drive from Al to claim the final podium slot.  Well done!

A great result for Team Green as we...Phil, Jason & I...scored more points than any other team despite Jason's DNF.  Uhhh...wait a tick.  That score might be up for review as yours truly may be subject to a penalty for drilling Sky's Lola down in Stowe on L1.  I'm not sure what was going on during the run down Hangar Straight and the approach to Stowe on this opening tour but everyone seemed to be just touring.  From my replay cap...still waiting for the server replay to be posted..., I note that Al is just poking along at nothing like racing pace.  This caused some degree of confusion and choking as we entered Stowe.  Evil next to lost it, in fact.  Sky slowed mid-track and I ran low next to the inside wall.  Too late I saw sky cut down and WAMO!, a healthy knerf that sent him careening off track.  Others behind were engaged in the fracas with assorted damage and grief.  Sorry, gys.  Sad

Not too much to report after that.  A relatively trouble-free run.  Sam came burning up on me in his 910 and I didn't have a prayer of holding him off.  He was by for position in a flash and long-gone within a handful of laps.  Sad to see that he fell to grief after a tangle with Al.  Around 2/3 distance, I saw the boss, Phil T, closing in and yielded coming off Stowe to set up a nice formation finish while keeping an eye on the gap back to Hiro.

BTW, Phil...  I don't use Prib.  Never have...never will.

Well!! that was a really surprising race!!!  Shocked and great fun  Grin

Saturday evening I had a spare 30 mins, so I played around with a race setup and was reasonably happy with how it felt. I anticipated that the Porsche would be completely overpowered by the bigger cars around Silvy and was looking forward to battling with all of the other Porkers.
Qually went OK, I was disappointed not to get a good lap in with some slipstream, but still very surprised to find myself so high on the grid!!

I thought that I would be slow on the Hangar Straight and would have to hang on to any slipstream that was available to stay in touch with the 3 fast cars ahead of me. I made sure that I was tucked in behind Axel as we approached Woodcote on the rolling lap. It was very obvious that Axel was struggling with grip/cold tyres in his Lola as we started racing and that Al was being his usual "Mr Reliable", whilst mark got his head down and was intent on pulling away.
Axel was making some attempts to pass Al and actually managed to slow both of them as we swung on to Hangar Straight for the first time at racing speed. There was a gap on the left of the track and I just stuck my little Porker down there as the 2 Lolas got their act together and blasted back past me. I knew that Al tends to brake earlier than some and was just commiting to a move down the inside at Stowe when Axel came steaming through with a similar plan  Shocked Shocked.

Because of his run up the inside to Stowe Axel missed the Apex and ran wide and in order to avoid a possible tangle between Al and Axel I forced the Porsche as tight to the wall as I could but slightly lost the rear end...which was why I was just a tad sideways. I suspect that Al was forced to brake hard as he was left with nowhere to go, I lost all momenetum as I fought the opp lock and Axel emerged from Stowe in 2nd place with me in 3rd.
The next laps were a case of harrasing Axel at each and every corner looking for an opening and watching in frustration as his Lola  eased away on the straights even when I was fully in the slipstream. But I think he overworked that poor V8 and I was showered with engine bits as I slipstreamed him down the straight a few laps later. Grats to Axel for immediately taking his car off the track Wink.
I was now in an unexpected 2nd spot with a fair gap back to Al's Lola. I fully expected that he would catch me as I had lost the speed advantage down the straights from Axels car.
But, it seems that I could carry more speed through the apexes without a large Lola blocking my exits and I realised that the gap to Mark was coming down steadily.
I think Mark must have had a small incident because suddenly I was within 100 mtrs and a few corners later I was hooked onto his gearbox and wondering about a top podium finish Roll Eyes Roll Eyes.
For lap after lap I lost ground on each straight section but easily closed up under braking and through the corners, often having to lift to avoid rear ending that Mk 2. Whatever tactics I tried, I could not counter the extra grunt and top speed of that Mk2 Ford... and believe me I tried just about everything except punting him off!!!
I needed Mark to make a mistake  and let me get through with a few hundred mtrs of clear air and maybe, just maybe I could maintain the gap with my faster cornering speed. But Mark drove a faultless race defending his line in each corner and left me nowhere to attack him. I finished the race right up his tail pipes but with no chance of getting past  Undecided.

Grats to Mark on a great win and thanks for a far better race than I was anticipating in the Porsche...In fact I was amazed at my pace on a circuit where I expected the muscle cars to dominate. Hiki Waza were missing FMG, as he was off playing real cars, but Nigel brought his Lola home yet again and my second place at least collected us a few points.

Quite pleased & relieved to score a podium here. The Lola may be fast but its engine goes pop quicker than my morning rice crispies, so after qualifying 2nd I plumped for a very conservative setup for the race. When Axel & Clive blasted past me on lap 1, I wondered whether I'd gone too safe with my ultra-long gearbox & self-imposed rev limit, but seeing a black puff of smoke from Axel's Lola up ahead a few laps later firmly answered that one! Without the benefit of Axel's slipstream, I figured Clive's Porsche would be easy meat & rubbed my hands with glee at the prospect of cruising past a hapless Evil on the Hangar Straight... sadly Clive hadn't read that part of the script & selfishly scorched off at a blistering pace, leaving me marooned in a lonely 3rd. Very pleased to see Prib showing my engine temps were staying nice & low, not so pleased to notice Sam gradually reeling me in & with 10 laps to go I found his Porsche right on my tail. And when I say right on my tail... I think Sam was looking to get as close as poss through Woodcote in order to get a run at me into Copse but unfortunately clonked my rear - I spun round a few times & rejoined relatively unscathed but Sam seemed to fare rather worse & I relievedly resumed my lonely 3rd place run to the flag. Congrats to Mark & Evil on their great pace. Apologies for rushing off abruptly after the race but my missus was in a flap after her email account got hacked.

Sorry for the shunt up the rear Al. Indeed I was trying to get as close as possible for an attack at Copse but misjudged our speed differences through Woodcote. Glad you didn't suffer too much since it was completely my fault. Sadly that flipped me over and after a shift-r and a 10 seconds waiting time at the pits, I was demoted to 7th. With only a few laps left I couldn't really catch up so stayed in 7th. Congrats to Mark & Clive for driving superb races and to Al for surviving my kamikaze attack.

1 SHIFT-R with a Stop n Go of 0 seconds!

I did this after my engine blew...
I had also chosen the longer gears for the race! But this did not help to keep the engine alive but it helped Clive to stay on my rear  Angry
After my stop and go I chased back some places until I missed Abbey and destroyed my car hitting the wall on the left...
