Moderator's Report

The title contenders all hit trouble to some degree (well Ross and Phil did, Dave Rainier was simply on holiday!) and a composed drive from Martin Hunt landed him a first victory of the season. Phil recovered to make it an Antipasti 1-2 while Hendy Nichols bagged another podium spot.

A quick note to everyone; in this and the last race I've seen a number of warp incidents. It's remarkable just how different an accident can look when comparing one driver's client replay to another. Please try to give the other guy plenty of room when racing so as to avoid unnecessary incidents.

Server replay time: 0h00m49s

Fabio spins on the exit of Paddock and as Hendy and Ross try to take evasive action, Ross hits Hendy. Martin then runs into Ross and is in turn hit by Bernie. Ross and Hendy reset at the same time and hit each other, knocking Ross into light contact with Adam, who has just been tagged by the recovering Martin.

Although Fabio triggered the incident it was a genuine mistake. Ross could have been more cautious when following Hendy which may have helped to reduce the scale of the incident. Hendy, Martin and Adam were the unlucky ones who got caught up in it.

Server replay time: 0h01m06s

Hendy resets after the T1 incident but leaves it another seven laps before taking his stop and go.

Although Hendy was late in taking his stop and go he did at least still do it. On this occasion a warning is deemed sufficient but further transgressions will be penalised.

Server replay time: 0h02m46s

Martin closes on Hendy under braking for Paddock. Martin is on the inside and Hendy has the racing line on the outside. Martin slows to let Hendy have the corner (he is travelling about 10mph slower than Hendy) but warp contact is made and Hendy spins off.

Server replay time: 0h04m39s

Mike rejoins after a spin at Paddock and the two following cars, Billy and Hendy, slow to avoid trouble. Dave crests the rise at Paddock, unware of what has happened and going a fair bit quicker than the three cars in front of him. Dave just avoids Hendy but the server replay indicates warp contact was made and Hendy spins.

Server replay time: 0h08m06s

Dave spins at Paddock and Ross, who is following close behind, runs into him.

Server replay time: 0h11m30s

Fabio is closing on Hendy and Billy as they approach Druids. Fabio moves to the inside and as he passes Hendy, warp contact sends Hendy into a spin but leaves Fabio untouched.

Fabio then tries to pass Billy but is going too fast on a tight inside line and hits Billy, knocking them both off track. Fabio is going about 8mph quicker than usual intro Druids whilst Billy is travelling at his usual speed. Fabio had no overlap at turn-in and would not have made the corner.

Server replay time: 0h11m43s

Phil and Geoff are side-by-side as they exit Westfield Bend, Phil on the left and Geoff on the right. They are very close and as Geoff drifts slightly left, they make contact and both go into a spin. The server replay suggests warp whereas Phil's client replay indicates Geoff is at fault. Geoff's client replay shows a reasonable gap between the two cars before Phil spins and warps back into Geoff.

This is a classic example of warp and poor collision detection combining to create an accident. Phil is blameless and although Geoff was moving slightly towards his opponent, he didn't hit him. It's hard to say if Geoff would have hit Phil further down the straight if GPL had not intervened.

Server replay time: 0h45m30s

Bernie takes a second reset.

Server replay time: 0h47m22s

Jason takes a second reset.

After a good run lately I knew my luck had to run out sometime  :'(

Got tangled up in the melee at T1 so reset and pitted with the intention of just picking up any points I could. After a couple of laps I caught Dave in his Eagle, he spun at Paddock and I had nowhere to go but into him. Sorry Dave, hope you were able to continue. With my reset already used, it was game over. Shame as I enjoyed the circuit.

Well done to whoever hits the podium, I'll be back later to import the results.

Well, practice went ok for me - a PB right there!  Not used to being so far forward on the grid;  it's a bit scary when you can actually see the serious guys at the front  - although makes a change to see the start flag!.     Was relieved to have not caused a pileup before T1 (although not looked at the replay yet...) & happy to have avoided the chaos down the hill.

So I temporarily gained a load of places & then the drive steadily continued to run downhill away from me.  If it had been a 1/2 lap race,  that would have been a good result!

I'm of course admitting nothing here;  that's for the moderator to weigh up!   Yes, I seemed to take a bit too much curb at that moment & also one of those very sturdy posts round T1.  Sorry Ross for being there; was a shame to then see you  disconnect as that was your spare car.   Hopefully having (I'll just mention unintentionally!)  taken out the race/divisional official won't be of any major problem... Smiley

Cheers for the run & congrats all entrants.

Dave.

I was going to tell you what a wonderful race I had "BUT"  definately a candidate for S/R abuse , I had forgotten the s/r rule book ( left it in the garage  Lips Sealed)  jogged the old memory cells  after  reading Ross's post above   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

so to save the mods the trouble,  I confess to being a complete dimwit  Embarrassed

Did qually on race fuel so I was quite pleased to get pole.  Had a solid 36fps in qually but when the race started I was back down to 29-30fps which makes it very hard to control the car (thought I'd fixed this problem but obviously not).  Anyway got a good start and the carnage on the first corner gave me a bit of breathing space to get used to the bad frame rate.  Had a reasonable gap after half a dozen laps or so but then I got into a slide I couldn't control and ended up spinning and loosing the lead to Geoff but I managed to recover quickly and I started to chase him down.  I went for a pass on the outside at Hawthorn Bend which I seemed to have pulled off but we made contact and we both spun out.  Sorry for the contact but I think it was a fair move and thankfully we could both continue.  This allowed Martin and Jason through, I got second place back but I tried in vain to catch Martin.  This time his tyres held out and I had to settle for the runner-up spot.  Nice to get a 1-2 for antipasti, great drive Martin Smiley

Unlucky Ross, you didn't deserve to get shunted at Paddock Hill on lap 1.  It did help close up the championship though, it is turning out to be a really close fight for the title Shocked

That was almost a great race for me. I had done no pre-race praccy for this event, and chose the BRM on a whim when joining the server. My qually session was spent making the car safe to drive so was not surprised to be so far from pole position. My plan was to drive safe and smooth and bring home some points and for the most part I managed it, managing to plot a safe line through the various spills in front of me. I was amazed to find myself as far up the field as 2nd! When Phil passed me I didn't fight too hard as the difference in pae between us made it kind of pointless but I was more than happy to ruise to the flag in3rd place with a healthy gap to Hendy... Untill that is lap 26 (or maybe 27) when the BRMs fuel guage took a sudden nose dive and the car ran out of gas! I span the car over the grass at Surtees corner ( I think - Im not too great on corner names!) , Took a reset and a stop/go and had to settle for a 4th place finish.
Well done to Martin for being the only one of us to keep a cool head - a well deserved win m8!

Things went well, in pre-race testing for Brands.  I quickly hit a sweet spot in the setup, and the Brabham was a pleasure to drive.  So I dared hope for a successful outcome, to a spot of racing input. angel

Disappointed with my grid position, I was in fact, only 0.2secs from 1st runner up, with only Phil much faster, in his flying Ferrari.  We seem to be a rather competitive bunch of Privateers.  My primary obstacle was going to be, the obstacles parked in front of me on the grid, while our pole man headed off into the distance!

At the start things very quickly, went very badly.  I was boxed in off the startline, and held back to see what would develop at Paddock.  A nasty headache developed for some - up ahead, a coming together of man and machine, and with no time to take an Aspirin!  A couple of clouts, and some grasstracking, put me to the tail of the field, while others suffered worse! Sad

On the comeback trail, I had brief battles with Hendy, and Blito, who were both driving well, but the Brabby was unbent, and driving beautifully!  My stroke of luck came when the 3 leaders, driving in close company, had a race altering altercation.   Once in front, I was able to match laptimes, with a fiendish Ferrari in pursuit, and find my way to the finish line, while others faltered, frivolously.  Hmmm . . . I seem to have an excessively effing keyboard! laugh

Looking back, it seems everyone had their share of dicing!  But A cruel blow for Ross, who I'd expected to be a strong contender.  And some bad luck for Bernie, and others who might've thwarted my compunction to excel . . . my what?!  I saw these cars racing on this actual track, in 1967, and all these years later, it was great to lead and win a similar race.  That's exactly the same way I would've done it, the first time around, had my legs been long enough!
