Moderator's Report

Tom breaks Joe's stranglehold to bag his first win of the season. Attilio claims another pole but an incident with Al costs him a podium, promoting Ronnie to second and Raoni to third.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

On the approach to T1 Joe takes the outside line on the left and draws ahead of Doni who has the inside line on the right. In trying to give Joe room Doni hits the kerb which bounces him left and into Joe. Malcolm arrives on the scene shortly afterwards and makes light contact with Doni.

Server replay time: 0h16m28s

Attilio is catching Al as they approach T1. Al brakes harder than Attilio and Attilio runs into the back of him.

My profound apologies, Joe.  'Twas I that clipped you and sent you into the sandbags.  I was trying to be extremely careful on the run into this first corner and eased out of the throttle plenty early.  Trouble was that I managed to mount the kerbing on the right and this propelled my BRM out into the middle of the roadway leaving you nowhere to go.  My bad...  Further, in looping about on the track after that initial contact, I collected Malcolm's Honda.  So sorry for that, hannah.  At least you were able to resume.

No problem pal, and thanks for the apology. Smiley

I was a bit distracted tonight, normal service will resume at the Glen (hopefully). Tongue

Congrats on a well earned win KH. Smiley

Had a fantastic start. Rest of the race was lonely, but exciting since I had a "ghost " to burry. I was certain I would mess up..and I could have done it with two laps to go. Even miles away from Hannah , his much more caredul speed in t1 made me jump a bit and I reflexbraked so my car twitched inwards . I had two wheels off and totally frozen I pictured myself in the hayballs. Fortunatly I buffered enough so my speed was low enough to go clear in the turn. It felt like I was flying but since I had no laps sub 3:00 I guess I was more careful than I thought the last part of the race. Ended 15 secs behind H s victory from season 19. But..that was quallaps all race long and I went off. Very pleased. Sad to see my teammate go out.  But happy to see we have two CH s on the podium Smiley

Sorry for no show last night, my ADSL drop down one hour before the race and didn't resume till this morning. I had even worked on a suitable setup in the afternoon.  Sad

I had terrific fun that race.
I was in grief the Thursday before when my screen (program) decided to black out. I chatted with Geoff on Saturday afternoon and did a full reinstall of GPL/GEM etc. Many thanks.
I did not know if I could even get into the race until 20 minutes before the race because no tracks were available to hop into.
This race I had some good graphics instead of everything completely dumbed down to zero to avoid frame flicker.
Because of my issues my car was not set up well for the turns but had great speed.
My favorite part of the race was King hiro passed me half way between T1 and T2 and I actually caught him up and put my front wheels ahead of his Lotus before I had to get on the binders for T2.

It was great to be in the Honda and fly the flag. This car I could not drive previously since Christmas because of my corrupted program.

Hail the podium finishers.

Well, what can I say, totalling someone from behind and ending their race is probably the most unexcusable mistake you can do. Really really sorry Al, the plan was to stay reasonably close to take you back on the second straight, I thought the distance was ok, and you get at that bend of T1 at top speed anyway even without a tow, so I braked at the usual 200m...totally taken by surprise by the amount of brake you put there..I wish I had an excuse, but I dont. I simply was too much in a haste to get back my position, and forgot the golden rule of checking the braking point of the guy you are chasing for a lap or so before you try to put in the pass, my apologies.

Thanks Art - I appreciate the apology. Can't pretend that I'm not bitterly disappointed though... after splurging all my tokens on an Eagle, I was running comfortably in 3rd and with Joe & Bob having been sidelined early on this was probably my best opportunity to consolidate my position in the championship Sad

Tom was leading at a cracking pace & Art caught me up pretty quickly after his bad start so I didn't make it unduly difficult for him to pass me for 2nd place - after a disappointing run of results recently, I was rather more concerned with preserving my engine & holding onto 3rd place ahead of a fast-moving Sam. Problem was, Art then had a slight off at the final turn which meant I moved ahead of him as we went down the main straight. Having followed Art for a few laps, I'd seen that he was much later on the brakes than me into the first corner so I thought I'd better leave the door wide open for him at T1 in case he decided to take a dive up the inside... sadly as Art says, he'd already committed to following me under braking & the result was that sickening crunch & my race over. At least it was some consolation that my teammate Tom managed to get the Carthage win that eluded him last time out & Ronnie also grabbed 3rd - WD guys.

Well, as you no doubt noticed, I had a somewhat dismal outing, ending stuck in the sandbags at the hairpin.  I got my braking wrong on full fuel and drifteded across the sand straight into the sandbag wall  Shocked.  I thought I'd manage to extricate my, but as the leaders came round to lap me I was ejected!!  Ah well, after 3 or so mins of trying to blow the weslake unit, I had to accept my fate.

A good waste of tokens  Tongue  This is usually the result when I break the piggy bank...must be a psychological thing...either that or the pint of beer I had earlier  laugh

C u next time,

Bob.

I was rearended two races ago. There were plenty of accidents in reallife but not that many rearendings. We must straighten up here guys. Ive done it myself but I try to learn from it. it s all about keeping safe distance when you know they brake early AND when you don t know where they brake. To many times ppl use their usual brakespot. Just for the Heck of it I did some T1 100 m sign research lap 3,4,5,6, on some drivers .

lap            3               4             5         6
King Hiro: 169mph     172mph   169mph   170 mph
Al:          154mph     155mph   149mph   154mph     Impact at L6 after 100 m sign.
AA          168mph     169mph   169mph   162mph     some panicbrake on L6
Sam        159mph     168mph   167mph   167mph
John        138mph     151mph   146mph   145mph

We drive different  Al was behind AA L 5 and he goes even slower. The car in front must keep track of brakepoint AND the car in the mirrors A brake might then come even a tad earlier than usual. Some times I try to add brakes very careful( or just slowly lift of acc) a tad early to give the guy behind time to react even though this shouldn t be my concern. My concern should be to try to race for my spot. Not worry about rearending (wich is usually my main concern)

Sorry for rubbing it in.

I really was disappointed not to finish this race  Undecided keeping the Honda going at something approaching race pace is a real challenge around this track., so big grats to Hannah for preserving some pride for Hiki Waza.

The Honda has the outright speed with that monster engine but the straights are so long that running flat out at 11k (+ a bit) means that the engine temp starts to climb towards the terminal 260F mark. On several laps I saw 11.2k revs and 258F or 259F oil temp before I reached the braking zone for T2. Then it was a really delicate down shift to avoid over revving the engine. Things were going quite well as I picked up a few places with cars running wide or incidents removing others. I think I reached the dizzy heights of 5th place when Raoni ran wide at the hairpin in his Fezza and I was able to sneak through and take his place.

Althogh the Honda was faster on the straights, it soon became clear that the Ferrari ( or Raoni) was better through turns 1 & 2. Instead of driving within the limitations of my ability and those of the Waza, I tried to brake later into T2 to keep Raoni behind me, probably only by 10 mtrs or so but it was enough to stick two wheels into the haybales and become totally stuck!!   I really should have known better  Roll Eyes
My demise was made even more bitter by the fact that a couple of more drivers retired just after me and had i maintained a sensible pace i would have been within reach of a possible podium ( well OK  maybe 4th!!)

Grats to Tom for his well deserved win and to all the finishers.

I looked at it.I hit the fence on left side and my car was out of control. I was lucky to not hit anyone. I still think that is something slightly different. If I had taken anyone with me I would apologized ofc.And you have like a gentleman.
I have rearended before and some day in the future I prob will again. Still there are a bit too many incidents like that. I was talking general, but used this as an example, cause it shows so clearly that a fast driver might not have fast approach to a turn. I m usually slow approacher myself. Not in this race for some reason.
I m relaxed and I do enjoy my win. Thx for the congrats Smiley

O/T

Just a little headsup for the group.  Next Sunday is the GT round at Pacific Raceways(aka, Kent)and I bring this up early since a thread for the event hasn't been posted as yet.  I looked at the track.ini file for this venue yesterday and saw that the starting grid is fit only for kamikaze.  I ran an off-line race observing from the back row with a full grid just to get the in-cockpit experience of the start.  A recipe for disaster.  The AI had about five shunters in T1.

A fix needed, me thinks.

DOH!  Thanks for the reminder of the roller start, Alex.  I'd completely forgot about it.

Thank heavens for the roller, too, as trying a grid start with this layout would be a major headache.
