A general caution though to all approaching an incident with yellow flag waving.

There were no incidents reported.

Very short race for me.  This track takes no prisoners!!

Got to the top of the hill on lap one behind Andrea when he hit the bales and lost a wheel.  There was smoke everywhere and I didn't know where he was going to end up.  I slowed down but I got into a terrible "tank slapper" trying to avoid him and I lost control and hit a tree.  After that I was upside down with the lights out so I had no idea where I was.

Having looked at my replay it looks like I ended up in the middle of the track and I suspect a few people hit me.  Sorry if that put you out of the race gents.

Some how my warped brain got the words Preluk and Panchine muxed ip ( must be going dislebolics ) spent practise (unsuccesfully) trying to find a quick way around this track 9or any way for that matter )

Missed the start due to piffling about with set ups wasnt suprised to find myself lapped after 3 diabolical laps , overcooked the ungine during haybale extraction manouver No.17 decided to carry on regardless in the face of adversity and at least get some coverage for the sponsers along with the jeers from the crowds untill the engine cried "enough" and we retired to the paddock bar .

Afetr my debut at this track they offered me the job of council road sweeper  , but felt I had to decline because I wasnt yet up to the required speed  Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

Not sure if my sin was even worse than yours Bernie.

I sneeked pole with a lucky lap and spent the first few laps trying to get away from Goran in his big Brabham and Al in his Lotus climax.  Al was losing ground slowly but Goran refused to co-operate and drop back, until he made a mistake going up the hill and i was freeeeeeeee! Cheesy

So I settled into a steady pace without risking anything for the next 18 laps and was pleased to see the gap growing steadily. with 10 laps to go I thought I would up the pace and try for a FL just to ease the boredom. I was very chuffed to post a sub 2:05 and relaxed with 3 laps to go.I just have to cruise to the finish now and a nice win........

I swear I actually closed my eyes and fell asleep as I crested the hill and was awoken by a large bang and a tree and a world that was upside down!!! 1.5 laps from the finish with a 50 second lead !!!  lololol

Grats to Goran , AL and Dave Ranier who should have made the podium. Like I said Bernie I had the race and threw it away  Undecided

You were like 1/2 a lap ahead when I left the spectator enclosure  Grin

Not a good track for Pro rules , way too many crash sites .

You can allways see it like this Evil, YOU WILL HAVE FREE CAR CHOICE FOR THE BREMGARTEN RACE!!

But I really was shocked to see you had gone missing and that was not the way I wanted to win.

On the other hand I think I should have gotten that pole you stole form me, I was just to confident, after all I had done a 2.04.22 in offline practice, and went out for a race fuel feel when I saw that you had taken pole. I went back to the pits and flushed out of all petrol, well nearly, went out and made it by 8 sec over the line but it was not enough 0.164 sec too slow. After that I though that well I will sit behind you and pressure you into a mistake but instead I had a black out, did not know where I was and went off. After that I lost power and could only see you disappear in the distance.

And behind drove Al and Dave a steady race to make the podium WD.

@Bernie, I am sorry but the SRou have the Opatija/Preluk track as Preluk so that was what stood in the forthcoming races. In the race thread I wrote Opatija/Preluk but I guess the forthcoming races is where you look.

It was obvious, there was going to be trouble at Opatija, in 1966.  Only after the road was swept clean of cars, would there be the chance of a good result.

Need I point out, the need for a pointy handling car, to handle a pointy track, such as Preluk's?  Trouble is, when you don't start towards the point, on a pointy track, there's a serious risk, you won't ever reach the point where you can contemplate, netting any points. Undecided

It's probably pointless to point fingers, when the inevitable happens, and one gets bagged from mid-grid.  But in the bigger picture, it means another pointless race, if you get my point.  In that case give it back - I'm in danger of going negative! Angry

Ooh what a sneaky track - it encourages you to keep going faster & wider & then just when you feel you've mastered it, it bites you firmly on the backside.

In qually I felt I got just about all I could out of the rather-athsmatic Lotus Climax but Goran & Evil soon made mincemeat of that lap going over a second quicker. In fact I spent half the race wondering how on earth Clive was pedalling his Lotus so damn quickly until it finally twigged that of course he was in the other Lotus-BRM! Having crashed out on lap 1 of the '65 race, I went for a very cautious opening lap though Andrea just behind looked to have other ideas & looked very keen to pass me. Perhaps a tad too keen though because as we crested the hill for that tricky right-hander, my mirrors revealed his car spearing hard into the wall & apocalyptic scenes of destruction for those following.

With Clive & Goran already pulling away fast & nobody close behind, I was left to lap pretty much on my own for the rest of the race. Like Goran, I forgot where I was for a moment, riding a bank & ending up facing the wrong way & a painfully slow 5-point turn left me even further back. Still, I consoled myself with the thought that at least Clive & Goran would be in the handicap cars for the next race... clearly Clive had been making the same calculations & in a fit of pique decided to throw his car off at the last minute rather than be saddled with the Mclaren at Bremgarten dammit Cheesy Joking apart, I felt really sorry for Clive because we all made mistakes here & it was just bad luck that his put him out of the race. Congrats to Goran who was probably due a lucky win after his unlucky blowup from the lead of Halle-Saale & well done to Dave who deserves a podium after a season of solid finishes.

You are right about my option on the Lotus Al. I found that Lotus BRM a really fast but unstable chassis for the first 20minutes of qually and decided to do some serious tweaking to make it more likely to survive as I was losing the rear end far too often and collecting various samples of the scenery!!

A session in the pits studying the telemetry and setup uncovered part of the problem and strangely enough, raising the ride height by about 1" all round suddenly made the car much more docile. That extra confidence that it would not suddenly throw me sideways over the many bumps allowed me to push with more confidence and knock almost 2 secs of my previous PB and steal pole from Goran.

As I said above later in the race the car felt really solid and even though I was short shifting, the lap times were getting quicker, so I decided to entertain myself by trying for a sub 2:05 lap. I think that was my mistake  Undecided, because once I had achieved that, I totally switched off and literally dozed off as I relaxed for the final 2 laps. but to get the points you have to finish...and I didn't lol .

I have to admit that the silver lining is the extra choice of car for Bremgarten and probably the race afterwards  Grin and all I can say is that is was not planned...would I lie to you guys???  Roll Eyes

I was sad to miss this one but as my outing pre-season showed, I am not great at Preluk (and before anyone else says it, anywhere else for that matter!)  Cheesy
