An eventful affair for me.

I was slowly improving my time in the Brab but was at the limit in the race, which I knew was a bad idea!  Sorry to Jethro on my rejoin after my off at the 3rd turn, I didn't see you until we made contact.  Then later on I spun out of copse and left you no where to go...

I am disappointed in my performance, but perhaps my performance showed my lack of praccy.

Bob.

Decided to take the Lotus because I haven't driven it for a couple of years and boy did it show!  I lost count of the number of times I lost the back end under braking.  If Joe was watching he would have chuckled.

Grats to Geoff on a fine win but the start line antics gave him a decent head start Roll Eyes.  I'll be back in the Ferrari for the Privateers (saved enough tokens to drive the 312 in the last two rounds Grin).

My presence was short as I am not used to drive these beasts and had made the setup of my Lotus worse...

Here is the replay but the .html is in german language!
So for the import only the complete.txt works Wink

So where do I start with this weekend's tale of woe....

Firstly, immediately before the qualifying I ran a race on the praccy server, (largely a Ferrari vs Brabham affair), which I ran on wifi with no problems whatsoever (no latency issues, which wasn't to last).

As soon as I tried to connect to the Works server the problems started. I was told I couldn't connect because the latency on my connection as too big. So I switched to a wired connection, and started again (I closed GEM and started again). Still no luck.

In iGor I was invited to join the Privs, so that I at least got a race - thanks gents.

However....for all the time I was connected my latency bar was solid red. At the start of last season, I did have some latency issues, but I was well aware of them, as they made me 5 secs a lap slower than I knew I was. As no one was complaining/mentioning it, I assumed I was OK, and went on to narrowly take pole.

Latency bars still maxed out, the race started, and I went straight ahead, but got taken out in the first 50 yards - no idea if my warping had anything to do with this, but that seemed like the end of the race, as I lost a wheel. Then I remembered that Privs = one shift+R, so I took it and started after the pack. For the first part of the race I wasn't aware of any warping, as I could see everyone I was chasing, and they weren't appearing and disappearing. I got past quite a lot of the field before I saw people taking massive avoiding measures when I was coming up to them. I started to think that they were letting me past for fear of warp contact....

Not entirely sure what was going on, I stopped caring when I realised I was P2 and taking 2/3 secs a lap out of Geof's lead. Then the gods decided to have more fun at my expense.

It was probably the latency that threw me out of the timings(Huh), but I did not disco. One lap I was P2, 11 secs behind Geof, next I was P7 +1 lap, and getting no information on Geof/Ross' positions. This happened to me at Dragon's Nest before Xmas. From then on I was very aware of cars flickering, and varying position. I also couldn't get round Club without spinning for 5/6 laps. I had hoped to get past Geof and finish, then sort out the honours, but whatever was happening at Club (I do not believe I was driving it any differently) ruined any chance of that. The flickering also meant that I rejoined the track in front of someone after one spin - apologies to whoever that was, but I just didn't know you were there.

After this I had to take all the slower corners very gingerly. I'm sure my rear tyres must have been overheating as cornering generally became difficult. Further spins let 2 drivers past, but not sure who they were (I suspect it was Ross and Dave) so I think I should be classified 4th at worst (don't bother trying to work it out Mods, it ain't that important), rather than the -18 laps I am classified....

If anyone has any thoughts on why my internet went from fine in the praccy server to so bad I couldn't get into the Works server, (and probably shouldn't have bothered with the Privs server) I'd be interested to hear. No other devices were using the network at the same time.

Sorry to have ended up a DNE for this.  Real-life dramas overtook this household late Friday and again Saturday afternoon.

We have two vehicles at our disposal and within hours of one another, both broke down.  One refuses to start; the other is making with an incredible grinding noise out of the left-front corner.  Wheel bearing or zero brake lining left, I suspect.  Without the luxury of a shift-R, I spent much of today trying to make arrangements so I could make it to work tomorrow AM.  The local tow-truck driver will have a busy Monday at my expense.  With both vehicles shop-bound, our piggy-bank has just declared DEFCON2.

Grats on the victory, Art!  Close one, Juha!  Well done for P3, Clive.

As the old motor racing cliche goes - to finish fourth, fourth you have to finish (err, maybe not...) I qualified 4th, set the 4th fastest lap & finished 4th. All this achieved without once troubling the top 3...  Roll Eyes

Well done to Art who has really stepped up his pace & consistency lately (I think Joe would have approved of the manner of your victory  Wink ) & to Juha & Clive. I tried hard to catch you guys but wasn't making a dent & so spent the race trying to maintain a gap to Fulvio, whilst suffering strange deja-vu visions of passing Hondas every other lap... Nice to see a good turnout for these races & looking forward to the next one.

I suspect you had problems with T7 server cause it was still set on Opengl_V2 from last Friday GT race. Opengl_V2 runs only at Full Desktop so you have to launch it on Console. To run on Remote Desktop you have to use Opengl so it can run in a window.
Only GT mod always requires Opengl_V2 and Console session on T7 server.

That sounds right Fulvio, the error was related to glide2x.dll.

I had an earlier error about the iGOR port already being open, I presume that's because I was trying to set it to listen when it was already doing so via the console.

I've not had problems like this before and we always follow Friday's PSC race.

I think this was a very fitting tribute to Joe as it was a very fast race ( certainly from where I was !!) with Art dominating as per Joe's usual way of racing.

Before anyone hurls abuse at me for not taking the Waza  Roll Eyes, I sought special dispensation from HER to allow me to drive some different machinery in this memorial series.

The fact that I have hardly driven anything except a Honda for years certainly showed, and I had my work cut out getting anything like a setup that worked. The result was that I had a relatively quick car that insisted on spinning up the rear tyres whenever I applied the gas out of every corner!!
Occasionally I judged the throttle application correctly and exited one or two corners smoothly but, because the car was setup to give some oversteer with power, I was struggling to bring the nose around and avoid running wide. As a result I often had to give the car a lump of power just to kick the ass around to get the car pointing in the right direction!! That did not do the tyre temps any favours and gradually the temps climbed.
Until that point I was quite comfortable in 2nd place following Art, although I could not make any impression on his 2 second lead without taking undue risks...and once the tyres started to overheat he stretched away.

Then Juha decided to get his a** in gear and started to threaten me with his Lotus. It was about this point in the race that I realised I had probably miscalculated my fuel and getting to the finish would be a marginal affair!! Shocked    Short shifting and trying to carry speed through the corners in a higher gear DOES NOT WORK with a setup like mine I discovered and it just caused me more opp lock and higher tyre temps  Undecided, which all played into Juha's hands. Stowe was where I finally lost control and ran wide allowing Juha an easy pass.
Great pace from Juha took him away from me and right up to Art where a few more laps might have given him a chance of the top step of the podium...or ended in a tangle that gifted me the win??  Roll Eyes Grin
Actually there was very little chance of any higher than 3rd unless Juha and Art totalled themselves, as my fuel was evaporating rapidly.
As I crossed the line the engine had just begun to cough and the fuel pressure dropped below 20psi..I would not have made another lap!!!
Grats to all on a good showing and two servers running as a tribute to Joe. This mini series should give some great battles I hope.  Grin

A big thank you to everybody who was involved in this and for organising a terrific memorial to Joe.

I am arranging for a trophy for the overal series winner and if it could become an annual series I would be delighted to support it with ongoing server donations.

I think that is to finish fourth, first you have to go forth...

Sorry I couldn't make it. I was attending a performance of Mozart's Requiem which my sister was singing in. I said a few prayers for Joe instead...

Joe's Dad

I'm honored to be taking part, and hope we're making a fitting tribute that he'd appreciate Smiley

Unfortunately as the results show I was somewhat off pace last night - perhaps my choice to step back into my faithful Waza after a few seasons in the Brabham didn't help, but I was 2 seconds off my old pace anyway due to seating issues here.
TBH I doubt I'd have troubled the leaders even if I'd taken a Lotus Sad

Have recently gained a new job so once a house is sorted in a few months I'll be building a rig around my race seat and will be back on pace with a vengeance next season Wink
