Moderator's Report

Great tight race with plenty of thrills and spills

Server replay time: 0h01m00s

Hendy takes a tightish line into T2 down the hill and Rob Venn takes avoiding action but loses control on the grass and bounces back into Hendy.

Rob does not reset but comes in for a Stop - presumably because he felt it might be a fault incident - it was unnecessary. A stop is only required if the driver resets the car with Shift-R.

More caution on cold tyres and full tanks would have been advisable though.

Server replay time: 0h01m08s

Jason partially loses control out of T2 and wobbles across the track which causes him to side swipe an innocent Norm

UKGPL Season 22 65 Novices Trophy
Race 9 Mosport

Welcome to the 9th round of the Novices Trophy for Season 22. Back to Papy tracks and an old favourite in the form of Mosport. This Canadian track was originally a farm but by the time it hosted its first race in 1960, the cows were a distant memory, they had 'moo'ved on Wink

Canada joined the Formula 1 circuit in 1967 at this track, as Mosport hosted the first Player's sponsored Canadian Grand Prix. Despite rain, the crowd was huge (58,000) as Jack Brabham drove to victory over another longtime Mosport Park favourite, Denny Hulme.

The complex was originally just one track-the 3.96 kilometre (2.459 mile) road course. Mosport has now grown to include four circuits on 750 acres of beautiful park land but we will be driving the challenging original with its mix of fast sweepers, long straights and tight corners, all whilst changing altitudes affect the driver's vision.

The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will cover the whole of the first lap.

Please check the Season 22 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular.

It is very important that drivers are FULLY familiar with the rules relating to Shift-R. EVERY Shift-R MUST be followed by a Stop-and-Go or the driver will be excluded.

Please see the Novices registration thread for an explanation of the chassis allocations shown below:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9196.0

Please ensure that you take a valid chassis for your group. THIS IS IMPORTANT AS THE CHASSIS GROUPINGS AND YOUR SEEDING HAS CHANGED. Please check the Novice Chassis thread. I will be checking.

There are some new faces potentially amongst us who have been assigned to Group I. Other drivers have also had seedings changed as part of an ongoing review. If you feel you have been wrongly seeded, please let me know.

I've been doing quite a bit of pratice for this track and I still suck. I hate this track Sad

I'll see everyone tomorrow, and I'm not expecting much, I'm just hoping for a trouble free run.

Not as much as I do... I had my first ever race here but I can't consistently beat 1:30 - I have definitely improved since then but I can't seem to hook it together. I;ve been using the white whale but I may try the Fezza here...

Last time out I was 2 Laps down at the end - hope to be a bit closer this time but we will see - the cast changes but positions remain stubbornly the same...

Yes I remember it well, some unknown Italian hotshoe called Artiglietti surprised us in qually and it was a topsy-turvy race that ended in the stewards' room. At one point every car I saw seemed to be a Waza Smiley

Sounds as if you are doing exactly what I did when first trying to get to grips with this track , namely pushing it too hard to get a good lap .

Take it easy , let the track come to you

IMO it pays not to brake to late for the corners , a clean exit is more important for speed down the straight bits  Wink

Unless of course its the straights your having the problems with  Grin

**** Great advice Bernie - just did 10 laps at an average of 1:29.2 (with an extra 1:41 in the middle when I pushed too hard). Never beaten 1:30 here before...

I remember well that race myself. It was my first ever championship race, I had practiced for the previous 3 weeks wacko , determined to come in with a bang. Yep, precisely: binned it already at lap 2, then spinned again a few laps later, blocked shamelessly and clashed with karliss while trying to rejoin from that, reset without S&G as I thought I was in the right  Huh, then moved on to rear end Paul while trying to lap him, and capped it all with clashing with the moderator in an overtaking attempt on the backstraight, for which he has never forgiven me... I remember wondering why the atmosphere wasnt that friendly anymore in the forum, and putting it down to my outrageous speed.. Grin Grin

When I watched the replay afterwards, I realised that had I kept it cool after the first mistake, I would have probably taken my lead back just waiting for the others to fall off... Wink

I've learnt that, this really is a track that you need to be tidy at. My problem is that I can do that for a lap or two, but always end up pushing, and as soon as I push I bin it.

One of my first UKGPL races was here too, it was Vosblood's first race and we had a huge coming together on the main straight, and if I remember correctly, took out the leader Sad

I'll be there, but really don't expect anything in the race.

Doubt it, as I'm really struggling here for a decent time. Even if I do manage a hot time, I still can't keep it on the black stuff here so I won't be finishing well.

LOL - I managed to do a 1:27.6 which is nearly three seconds better than my previous best so super pleased. Upload my times to GPLRank and check my buddies...

Who is nearly a second faster 'Slow' Al  Grin

I find Sector 1 the most challenging and it is that downhill swoop at T2. Either overcook and hit the kerb or go wide and lose the back on the grass - that is the key for me. I am slow at Moss and I know that there is a second there but if I push it I end up in the armco... fun track though and will always have fond memories as it was my first ever league race. Hope to do better than I did that day although I have doubtless set myself up for four resets, 10 penalty points and last place  Grin

We'll see how everyone else is doing tonight, I bet I won't be near the front.

And like I said, putting in 1 fast lap is easy, keeping it on teh black stuff is hard for me.

The whole track is a pain for me, I can lose a bunch of time all over the place, and spin, crash, go wide tec. but for me the place where I nearly aways make a mistake is the hairpin onto the straight. I always end up pushing too much into the hairpin and mess up my exit, which means that I loss a chunk of time along teh straight, and even when I know about it, and try to keep it neat, I still mess up the exit to that corner.

yeah Al,

I have the same feelings with this track.
In my offline times I avoided to race here but now I have to...

My only way to get it better is doing more and more laps, every 20 laps I found a 10th  Wink

Know what you mean - I can do it offline but I use the whole of the road. God knows what will happen if there is anyone else there... Sad
