Think I've found the problem - Only one Mustang has enough power to compete with the Falcon's, that being car 1.
I was driving Bob Jane's car which is 60 odd Hp down  Roll Eyes

Shame as I prefer his paint job.....

Have now put some laps in in car 1 and that's happily in the 2:34's on race fuel, perhaps I should take the Bob Jane car though as to the best of my knowledge I'm only really planning on this race as a one-off..

Could manage a 2:41.9 in the (strongest) Total-Team Mustang (#1) with longest gearing
on white spot tyres but it's obvious that these tyres won't last over the distance.
Absolutely chaotic laps - unable to master The Dipper without crashing into the border Roll Eyes
Falcon seems to be much easier to drive in that particular section.

I'll take the Mustang tomorrow.

Tim is right, I am so used to only ever using the white AATC that I had forgotten
there are other slower ones.....  Embarrassed

Only take the slower AATC if you are in masochist mode.....  laugh
Aim to win however many events you plan to run.

I like both cars, so will take whatever is least used.

I haven't had the chance to do any laps yet but don't want to take the fastest car, so could someone tell me which is the slower - Falcon or #1 Mustang?

For me the times are identical. I think the tyre wear may be worse on the Mustang.

Really? The Falcons tyres are described as mediums and certainly get very hot very fast (Might be my driving style mind!), The Red's (Hard) on the Mustang seem to be standing up to the abuse much better.
Both cars are very close in speed - my Mustang lap was roughly .5 sec quicker than the Falcon when both were on race fuel. However it's worth noting that I spent an hour or so on the Mustang setup trying to make the Bob Jane car fast before realising it was way down on power....

Falcon will deffinatly go a bit faster if I spend time on it Smiley

Instead of a half-day's golf at the company's charity golf do and subsequent evening meal, I have just spent five and a half hours in A&E on account of my mother-in-law falling and breaking her left hip.

So now I can race  Grin( I did not push her over!  Let's get this clear!) but I have only done two laps in the Falcon.

But I must have been on the right track because it was online.  It's the one with the dog-leg before Murrays.

Sorry Hotkeys, stupid error on the first corner. Just forgot that a car full of fuel wouldn't brake as quickly as I needed. Quit out in disgust with myself.  thumbdown

Arghhh  ...... why didn't I start from the back of the grid, the way I usually do ?
40 min at Bathurst with damaged suspension is not worth the effort :- ))

@ Tony  not to worry, just another race incident :- ))

Sorry not to make this one folks, busy gardening and getting ready for next week's coach tour of Scotland.  Grin Had hoped since I knew the track and had base setups I might be able to drop in to qualify at least but it the event I really couldn't even get the turn and drive to go up the mountain, so I didn't bother you.  Roll Eyes Huh surrender rockon

I had tried the Falcon for a few laps but couldn’t do better than 2:38 so had to join the Mustang herd.

I qualified 4th and made a good start, getting past Solmyr and inside Marco at T1 but Marco had better exit speed and pulled in front up the hill.

As we went along Skyline on lap one, Marco went too wide on the right and ended up being thrown clean across the track to vanish over the Armco on the left.  So that left me in second spot with Tim and Solmyr in close attendance.

This order prevailed for a few laps and it was obvious that my lack of practice was making me slow out of the Cutting and along towards Skyline.

Eventually I made a mistake at Murray’s and Tim passed me then on the next lap I failed to change down enough gears at Forest Elbow and Solmyr passed as well.

But they didn’t get away.  The pair of them were bouncing off the walls in various places and I was hopeful of an opportunity as the race progressed.

Eventually, Solmyr had a go at the right hand entry to Caltex Chase, which resulted in Tim leaving the track to the left and then Solmyr getting out of shape and not being able to pull her up before the left hander.

I passed between the two of them as they fought the Australian Bush, back into second spot.

Tim followed me down to Murray’s and then did a 360 spin on the way out.  Solmyr passed him but gave the place back.  Very generous in my book, as I don’t think that there was actually any contact between them.

I then trundled on to the finish with a nine second gap back to third, although my tyres gave me a moment or two over the last couple of laps and Solmyr had closed me down to about five seconds.

Grats to John and many thanks to Tim and Solmry for a great race.

A brave drive by Tim in that awful Falcon.

I ended up making some pretty radical changes to my normal Falcon setup for this race, as much as I like how wayward they normally are I decided that it needed reining in for this to give the tires some chance of surviving.
Even with these mods to the setup (I still want/need to improve it for future races) I knew the tires would give out well before the Mustangs so was curious how well I could finish in it.
I think that if I'd passed Clive 3 or 4 laps earlier I could have taken it to a comfy 2nd, had I not spun behind Clive after Solymar and I went offroading I might have just about squeeked it - but it was steadily becoming ever clearer my tires were knackered from then on Sad

[...] Tim followed me down to Murray’s and then did a 360 spin on the way out.  Solmyr passed him but gave the place back.  Very generous in my book, as I don’t think that there was actually any contact between them. [...]

Wink I wanted to make a vid of our long battle, but unhopefully i'm encoutering some problems with this damn WindowsMovieMaker (if anyone knows a good free video maker...  Roll Eyes) I wanted to explain that we both FMG and me had commited a fault at the moment of my attack, and even if we didn't contact at all, mine was problematic as if FMG hadn't misjudged and then done his off-road, i would have contacted him and pushed him in the grass in a very bad position. Then i knew that we both were losing a place as you were tacking 2nd, and even if i restarted behind FMG, i felt guilty for the reasons explained above. That's why when he did his spin a few seconds after, i decided to wait for him, giving him back the lost place i was feeling guilty for...

A shame i did this damn fault, my misjudge was way too big and serious. I had decided to pick some hard tires, and they were too hard. I wonder what kind of them John chose for this race, but it clearly was a better choice.
And, by the way, i've ever seen a mollusk starting faster than i did......  :'(  laugh

Congrats to John for his great race, and to all finishers, and thanks for the fun Clive and FMG.
