Still, I guess it's better that all this happens in the fun races.
Oh yeah?

Great circuit from my point of view, although it seemed to stress my computer's graphics ability at times despite having a 1 Gb card. ( the 2.8 processor might be the week link here). I was fortunate to be leading on the 1st lap and therefore was not asking my graphics package to process a load of cars in close proximity, so I never saw what effect that might have on frame rates. I used the "lite" version, but still found it necessary to turn down the graphics slider and reduce the number of trackside objects to avoid serious frame rate issues. I do wonder what sort of hardware one would need to run the "hi res" version. Other than that, no probs with the track other than the unforgiving armco barriers. I took one too many liberties and went from just "kissing" the armco to some serious "tongue action". The result was that the Honda suffered some serious issues at the front end about half distance and generated a super hot left front tyre, which made no sense given that almost all the corners are left handers!!! Plus, front tyre temps are a new experience that despite many years in GPL I have almost never suffer from, all my problems are with rear tyres and molten rubber. Grats to Sam, Tim and Robert, I could not match their pace once the front wheels started falling off and anyway I was only ahead because I survived without incidents for longer than they did, so I cannot complain.

Even if I don't like street circuits this one is not so bad... for hotlaps alone! Online races on such a circuit often became a mess, so IMHO Montjuic is not a good choice for season 23. Anyway, no issues like freezes or CTD all along the qualify time and no FPS from the middle of the grid. I quit the race only because of an accident. Well done to everybody seen the checquered flag!

A look at everyone's practice times, told me my setup needed tweaking. Early laps were exciting, with some rubbing of bodywork, but no blood shed. After which, my race became a lonely one, and a battle with the tyres, more than with Armco. But there's never a dull moment, on such a challenging track - it's rather like a high speed version of Monaco, and a place where there's no substitute for car control. This track has been ignored for too long. I've a 'slow end' system, but despite starting near the back it ran well, and with no evidence of warping. BTW, I hope everyone stopped on the short back straight, to admire the animated fountain?

Again apologies to Al and all those caught up in the mess I created. The inside line at the hairpin was always going to be slower and I should have allowed Al more room to negotiate the turn. I was shocked when it happened and my initial thought was that Al had run in to a car ahead or something. I know this sounds selfish but I hate the feeling I have after being involved(causing) in an incident like that. I drive around the whole race wondering and brooding. Looking at the replay I'm trying to figure out what happened and where I can do better and I spot the number on my car. Number 13. Yesterday was not my lucky day. My oldest sons' apartment was broken in to and robbed. Bad enough as that is, I had allowed him to use a couple of my shotguns recently. Someone else is now the owner of them. One I've had since my early teens. :'( My initial laps at Montjuic in testing were followed by a "you have got to be kidding!" Too slick, too unforgiving for a 67 I thought. When I tried the Brabham it was a bit better but still all over the place kissing the armco and sliding thru braking points. I joined the server with the escape option if I couldn't cope. The first couple of laps were not so bad I thought and boy was I surprised to see my time and standing to that point. Decided that race fuel was the better option for the remainder of practice. Saw lots of offs, crashes, spins, tank-slappers, etc... and provided a few myself. One as Sam was waiting at the pit exit I touched the left side armco on the pit straight? and shot to the inside giving the pit barrier a mighty whack! Sitting in Sam's car it looks funny but from where I was at it was plum scary. The race was interesting and almost fun forgetting lap 1. I managed to catch up Sam and Evil or they came back to me. After a spin by Sam I was between them. Following Evil up the hill on lap 10 I drifted wider than my usual and crested the "Hump" at a bad angle. The landing was bad and I smacked the inside barrier , riding it down to the haybales. While driving away I noticed my steering felt strange and the wheel was tilted several degrees to the right. From then on I had miserable understeer at the left hand corners. The right handers weren't a problem so I tried to adjust for this. Tim was gaining by the lap and I tried picking up my pace. The harder I drove the worse my front tires became so it was only a matter of time. I saw Evil ahead and was thinking he must be struggling as well. I can't remember where but I touched a barrier(many times during the race) and the steering felt a little better afterwards. Guess I bent the opposite side to compensate. With Tim bearing down on me I performed the 8 out of 10 he referred to. I think judges are a little generous these days so a 7.5 would be acceptable. The story of my life, a 7.5 out of 10. Somehow soldierd on to the finish with a beaten and battered Brabham and bruised ego to boot. I tried guys. I've changed my views on driving a 67 around here. It is slippery and unforgiving but hell the 67's are already that and more. Drifting through some of those turns with the threat of smacking the barrier if you get it wrong... Can't say it's boring. Grats on the pole Al Great fast lap Tim Grats Sam for hanging on Peace RJ

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Having upgraded computers recently, I thought I'd try my luck with the Hires version of Montjuich. When I was lapping in practice, I had a nice steady frame rate but when the start began, I noticed a reasonable drop in fps, but nothing too severe to make it impossible to drive. My race was relatively simple; I spent the first half battling Clive and Robert for the most part. By half distance I found myself in the lead and simply had to maintain a gap to the closing Tim, who had brilliant pace throughout the race. The Eagle was a pleasure to drive, despite my lead foot getting the better of me on occasion. Still unsure on which series to sign up for, but I'll sign up for something eventually, for sure .

Some feedback on the track. Connection was solid - if there was a frame rate drop I didn't notice. There are a few street circuits which I really dislike but can't complain about this one. The sweeping turns into the last 1/3 of the lap are awesome. Equally the run down to T1 is frightening. I was rather amazed to have completed the race with only one serious dispute with the armco.
My only reservation with running this track for UKGPL races is that you can almost predict a T1 pile up. Nevertheless, it gets my vote which means it will be used as the Spanish leg of the Formula 2 European Tour.

Anyway I can hardly start pontificating as I managed to plough into the back of Ronnie later on
I do hope Ronnie appologised for slowing your progress How remiss of me and thanks for the reminder Bernie. Forgive me everyone but I have not apologised in the last five minutes so here I go, SORRY EVERYONE On a serious note I used the hi res version of the track with all the detail at max in gpl and did not notice any slowdown in frame rate (Win7 OS, i7 2700k processor, GTX 580 1536mb graphics). One last comment on the track. For me, the exit from the final corner, over the start/finish line, over the hill, to the entry of the first corner is simply one of the best sections of any track I have driven on GPL and a mighty challenge to get right lap after lap.

I have to agree Ronnie, that section from the S/F line to T1 is an absolute sod to nail !! I don't think I have got it absolutely right even once to date. Either, I drop a gear just as I crest that rise and try and brake in a straight line aiming at my turn in point and find that I arrive with time to spare or, I push just a little more and delay a gearchange by 10 mtrs and find myself heading into the bales on the outside of T1 in a very untidy fashion Also, from the cockpit I don't think T1 looks as sharp as it actually is and I find it is easy to get huge understeer if you hit it too fast. The section up the hill to the start is almost an act of faith and it took me a long time and several "chicken out" laps before I gained the confidence ( and the right line) to keep the gas nailed as I went up through the gears to cross the S/F line flat in 5th. Yes, this circuit offers a great challenge, just like Monaco....but different.

I have merged the threads so Ross's Link doesn't work anymore... Replay is here and, yes, there are two versions - that is how hard your mods work... not so good at talking to each other though...

Forgot to mention it earlier but I had no slow down at all here - even at the T1 pileup and later when I was working back up through the field But then if I do get slow down it's normally something going wrong in the background anyway Tempted to stick together a quick video showing the 4 main methods of approach into T1 I noticed Evil performed the 'forget to brake' option perfectly at one point in the race

Is it just me who has problems seeing through the Lotus windowscreen , I think the problem is worse at some tracks than others , Bathurst for e.g. I found was particularly bad
