Ok my opinions of the F2 cars so far.

These races are the first time I have seriously tried to set these F2 cars up to suit my driving, so I can only give my ratings based upon the few races we have done this series.

The F2 's all respond very well to slipstreaming and unless you can make a clean break and get beyond drafting range of the chasing pack, you have to gear your car for extra revs in top gear as you get towed. That is fine if you are not leading, but once in the lead that extra long top gear can actually prevent you reaching max speed..... which make the setup choices of gearing very tricky  Undecided

Most of the FVA powered cars ( so far) seem pretty equal and all handle in a similar way ( at least they do with the setup that I have swapped from car to car Roll Eyes). I found that the Protos needed a setup that gave some more bite on the front to help it into corners, but once the turn in was sorted it was pretty much as per the other FVA's...just a little quicker on the straights.

I liked the smooth handling and power delivery of the Lola BMW and although feels slightly down on power compared to the FVA engines, with the right gearing it was still fast.

The Ferrari was something totally different and I developed a totally special setup around that car to exploit the extra revs and the handling ( did it also have 6 gears??). I found that it was difficult to find the right gears to ensure that it was always giving max power out of corners as the peak power band felt so narrow.

Also a special setup for the Brab 14. Lower revving but seemed to have a wide torque band and smooth delivery so once again trying to find the sweet spot was tricky.

Just the Matra 7 and the Lotus 48 to go and I am hoping that they are both going to work with my "standard FVA" setup, maybe a tweak on top gear for Silvy. I'm about to do a few exploratory laps in these cars now and will post back later.

Managed to confuse myself (easily done) & arrived just as the flag was being raised.   Just enough time to adjust fuel.  Then to the grid in what appeared to be a Protos (well it was red & had a bubble) - not sure how that got past scrutineering!

Grr!  shame - I've driven in the other events & wanted to complete the set.

Hopefully I'll make event #2,  if I haven't just wasted valuable time here...

EDIT - My race history now shows as me having finished 1st place for race#1.   Presumably 1st in class, due to the Protos...    Please can that result be deleted!   Is that one of the UKGPL mods who can adjust that,  or is that a(n even!)  higher power?

Cheers,
Dave.

Grats John, Fulvio, and JonnyO

Grats Goran, Evil, and Fulvio

Sorry to Billy Nobrakes for taking you out with a failed slipstream maneuver. After our good race in the first outing that was a bad way to finish race number two. It looks like I started the move as you were upshifting and the difference in speed caught me out. Bad mistake on my end.

Silverstone is a difficult track for me. Becketts in particular has bitten me many, many times in the past. Coming off an 69X race on friday @Silverstone the F2's felt really slow in testing. I was nowhere close to my pb and didn't put in much effort to tweak the setup.

I decided to just drive for the pleasure of driving and not worry about results. The first race started with a bang you could say and I had to shift-r after the first corner. Somewhere along the line a good race developed between Billy and I. He was good under braking at Stowe so the chances to overtake would require a risky move. Some other drivers in a race of their own came up from behind and things changed from there.

Race two was a hectic affair and I was caught up in the middle of a hornets nest. Had my usual off at Becketts which required a reset, and stop and go this time, and ended with punting Billy off. Not sure if I'm up for the F2 series. I have a feeling it is going to be ultra competitive and hotly contested. My nerves may not be up to the task.    Undecided

Peace

RJ

Despite a lazy day at home I managed to arrive late for race 1. So late in fact that the server was already "mutating" as I logged in without checking any settings, only to be placed directly on the grid in a Ferrari!!! Not only that but it was immedistely apparent that I had the wrong driver identity and the 60 fps patch activated!! The only thing I had right was the circuit!! Undecided

So I missed race 1.  Grin

Loitered around until race 2 kicked off and opted for the Matra, although to be honest I was getting near identical times in both cars offline.

Goran sneaked a stunning pole lap right at the end of qually and it looked all set for some close racing  Grin Grin. Maybe I should have broken my rule of doing qually on race fuel to pick up a few extra tenths, but it was too late anyway.

The start was clean and I was onto Goran's tail from the off, looking for a way past in the early laps, but could not quite find the gap. Then approaching Stowe I saw a car use my slipstream and dive for the inside so I stayed wide ( well I thought I did!) but got a crafty nudge that sent me into the wall on the outside  Undecided.

I found a gap to rejoin in about 8th place in a cloud of red fog and set off after the leaders. taz  The first few cars I got past quite quickly but Natan proved a real road block lol. For about 3 laps I was losing a second a lap, which was to prove costly by the end of the race. Natan was driving very defensively but fairly, and I had to work hard to set up the pass.

Fulvio in second was next. I hunted him down and caught him at exactly the right place as we entered Hangar Straight...picked up the draft... down the inside to Stowe  Grin........ Now for Goran who was in the lead.

I was helped on the penultimate lap when Goran lost a second with a backmarker and going into the final lap I was closing fast. Not close enough to have a go at Stowe on the final lap, but at Abbey I was right up his exhaust pipes with only Woodcote to go. The 3 secs I had lost behind Natan would have proved very valuable....but such is racing  Wink Grin

These F2's are great fun and I am looking forward to season 23 and a full championship......maybe Goran has to take the Ferrari now that he has shown he can win races Huh??  hehehehehe

Robert,
Thanks for your comments - enjoyed the racing & don't worry about the crash. Don't let it put you off entering the F2 series. If you find the sort of pace you had in the 67's at Montjuic the other night I'm sure you'll have a good season.

Thanks to Cookie for organising this F2 mini-series. Only problem is I still can't decide which car to use for Season 23.

Thanks Axel for a great series , much enjoyed by all I think  taz

As for the racing , race 1 was my best result to date in F2.  In spite of being punted off after the start as usual I managed to recover and get to P4 for the finish , which tells me the rest of you must have had a really bad day  Roll Eyes

Race 2 was a disaster 2 more acco's followed by s/r's and S&G 's put me right out of the running ended up getting lapped  :'(

Still maintain what a silly rule this is , punishing twice and getting dropped down the running order for something that isnt your fault which ever way I look at it JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY KIND OF SENSE TO ME  Roll Eyes

It's limerick time!  :

It's unpleasantry from the peasantry, which invites flaws in our laws.
It's attitude and aptitude, which towards conclusion draws,
Because drivers here are rougher, our Moderators suffer,

Yeah, what may be sanctioned in a moderated race isn't in a fun race!
But there was an old rule, to do only faulty s&g, that will be revived for future fun races  Wink
