Moderator's Report

A fine win for the returning Itchi Waza, who may have incurred Ms Fujikawa's wrath by spraying champagne all over her during the podium celebrations. If Hristo misses Montjuich we will all know why!

Attilio Artiglietti was close in qualifying but could not match the Waza consistency in the race, however the Italian enjoyed a race long feud with Sam Blood, beating him by around nine seconds in the end.

Server replay time: 0

Robert John has not been penalised for setting a practice time in two different chassis, although the rules suggest he should have been.

Under the circumstances Robert gained very little from doing so, and as a newcomer will have the mistake overlooked this time.

As a reminder to all drivers, the rules state this-

Changing Cars after Joining Server

The primary goal of this rule is to prevent drivers continually swapping chassis depending on what the other competitors are choosing. The drivers can do this to some extent anyway by waiting in VROC until everyone else has joined and then making a decision on what chassis to take. The effect that setting a time and then changing chassis has is less predictable. The server may reserve a place on the grid for someone who set a time in a chassis which they subsequently abandoned in preference to another. Given that the effect on the server and consequently on other competitors is unpredictable, the award of penalties must be at the discretion of the moderator.

Typical Scenarios:

Frivolous Car Changing: Exclusion

Setting several times in various chassis.
Continually swapping between different chassis.

Excessive Car Changing: Penalty 3 Places

Setting times in 3 different chassis.

Simple Car Changing: Penalty 2 Places.

Setting times in 2 different chassis.
Leaving the pits in 3 or more chassis but only setting a time in one.

Avoidable Car Changing: Caution.

Setting times in 2 chassis but one was so slow to be well off the back of the grid.
Leaving the pits in 2 chassis but only setting a time in one.

Server replay time: 0h00m57s

On the approach to Copse John is in the middle of the track and Evil is to his right, on a tight inside line. In the braking zone John draws ahead and moves right to take the corner. As he does so, his right-rear corner touches Clive's left-front and John spins to the outside of the track, avoiding contact with anyone. Clive continues unhindered.

Server replay time: 0h01m06s

Bartosz and Arf exit Copse alongside each other, Arf on the left and Bartosz keeping right along the edge of the track. As the racing line moves right, Arf follows it and makes contact with Bartosz, spinning them both off track. Arf was unaware Bartosz was in his blind spot, and in fact may have believed the spinning Brabham he saw in his mirror at Copse was Bartosz, when in fact it was John.

I'd echo Attilio's comment - really pleased to see such a healthy grid for both Works & Privateers (& hope we can keep attendances up for the season). I'm reasonably happy with my race - didn't really get on top of things in qualifying but nicked 5th when Fulvio ran wide on lap 1. While the front quartet gradually edged away, I found myself trying to defend a flimsy 2 second advantage to Fulvio, Clive & Andrew. Just like last season's Historic race here, Fulvio was relentless in his pursuit for the whole race & I had to fight like crazy just to try & eke out some breathing space between us. Having driven out of my skin for nigh on 30 laps, I noticed with horror that I'd eaten up far more fuel than expected so spent the closing laps desperately trying to change up early & use low revs... and crossed the line with 0.4 galls left sweatdrop Congrats to Sam, Art & that new bloke in the Honda Wink

Hehe relentless  Grin
Indeed I was pleased to start fifth after a short qualy for me, and to not crash in the race after a tiring Sunday at sea with my grandson and a breakdown to my car. Luckily it happened before I went down to the slipway to let down my rubber dinghy, it would embarrassing to block the slipway all the afternoon waiting for a tow.  Embarrassed
After a nice start with Al pressing inside at T1, I kept fifth till the Eagle (Sam?) ahead had a slow exit from T1 lap2 so we approched to Maggot side by side, but I had to go wide to not risk a touch so Al passed by and so did Andy and Clive soon after.
Some laps later I did a move on Andy on the main straight and he was fair enough to not overbrake at T1 so I went to catch Clive that had soon tires problems I think cause I could pass him pretty easily.
Then the long pursuit to Al trying to take care of tires and engine temps and not overbrake myself. In the end no mistakes from both of us so an unexpected fifth for me.  Smiley

That really was a brilliant race. Art has pretty much summed up my race. Why I cannot push as hard as I can chasing another car is beyond me. Nevertheless, that set me up for a cracking battle with Art that lasted for almost all the race.

A nice way to start S23 with a podium. Just a shame I can't use the Eagle every race  Wink. Congrats to H and Art for well fought places.

I was disappointed when I ended up in the wall at Stowe after trying to avoid Sergio, but I was not mad  Wink No worries Sergio, next time just stay on the racing line next time and ease back to let the faster car make the pass.

I had settled for the position i was holding as I had damaged the handling of the WAZA some laps before trying to keep up with Fulvio's Ferrari. It just did not handle as well after that ( come to think about it...it did not handle that well before either!!!).

Grats to Hristo on his return to UKGPL and to the other fast boys at the front. It looks like we might have a very competitive season  Wink

Guys, I had mounted my DFP drive wheel on a mobile table, mobile in the sense that it was not stiff and every time I turned my drive wheel, all was moving, also my monitor, so I had to move to stay in front of the monitor. It seemed to me much more a regatta for sail boats than a GPL race.  Roll Eyes Tongue Grin
