Moderator's Report

A fine win for the returning Itchi Waza, who may have incurred Ms Fujikawa's wrath by spraying champagne all over her during the podium celebrations. If Hristo misses Montjuich we will all know why!

Attilio Artiglietti was close in qualifying but could not match the Waza consistency in the race, however the Italian enjoyed a race long feud with Sam Blood, beating him by around nine seconds in the end.

Server replay time: 0

Robert John has not been penalised for setting a practice time in two different chassis, although the rules suggest he should have been.

Under the circumstances Robert gained very little from doing so, and as a newcomer will have the mistake overlooked this time.

As a reminder to all drivers, the rules state this-

Changing Cars after Joining Server

The primary goal of this rule is to prevent drivers continually swapping chassis depending on what the other competitors are choosing. The drivers can do this to some extent anyway by waiting in VROC until everyone else has joined and then making a decision on what chassis to take. The effect that setting a time and then changing chassis has is less predictable. The server may reserve a place on the grid for someone who set a time in a chassis which they subsequently abandoned in preference to another. Given that the effect on the server and consequently on other competitors is unpredictable, the award of penalties must be at the discretion of the moderator.

Typical Scenarios:

Frivolous Car Changing: Exclusion

Setting several times in various chassis.
Continually swapping between different chassis.

Excessive Car Changing: Penalty 3 Places

Setting times in 3 different chassis.

Simple Car Changing: Penalty 2 Places.

Setting times in 2 different chassis.
Leaving the pits in 3 or more chassis but only setting a time in one.

Avoidable Car Changing: Caution.

Setting times in 2 chassis but one was so slow to be well off the back of the grid.
Leaving the pits in 2 chassis but only setting a time in one.

Server replay time: 0h00m57s

On the approach to Copse John is in the middle of the track and Evil is to his right, on a tight inside line. In the braking zone John draws ahead and moves right to take the corner. As he does so, his right-rear corner touches Clive's left-front and John spins to the outside of the track, avoiding contact with anyone. Clive continues unhindered.

Server replay time: 0h01m06s

Bartosz and Arf exit Copse alongside each other, Arf on the left and Bartosz keeping right along the edge of the track. As the racing line moves right, Arf follows it and makes contact with Bartosz, spinning them both off track. Arf was unaware Bartosz was in his blind spot, and in fact may have believed the spinning Brabham he saw in his mirror at Copse was Bartosz, when in fact it was John.

Roll up! roll up! Welcome one and all to Season 23 of UKGPL, the world's finest and most celebrated GPL league (apparently). The Works brigade begin at Silverstone, host to the first ever World Championship Grand Prix back in 1950. The field is wide open to claim Joe Shaw's mantle as the best driver in the 67s. Rumours of Bulgarian hotshoe Hristo Itchov's return have proved well founded, but old hands in the form of Clive Gardner and Al Heller are sure to be contenders, alongside Italy's new darling Attilio Artiglietti. Not an event to be missed!

Alas, for me, this opening round in S23 is trumped by the vintage car weekend at Mosport.

Best of Luck, chaps!  Smiley

What can I say.... Pod and Sergio - sincerest apologies for the separate incidents in which I crashed into you both.

Pod - I didn't know you were there, looks like we came out of the first corner side by side. I couldn't hear your engine, thought I was clear to take my place for the left hander. I hope you can continue.

Sergio I passed on the start straight, and thought I'd made a complete pass. Looks like I was drifting over a bit and touched you (my rear to your front). Pretty sure I ruined your race... really sorry

Well, a bittersweet first points race for me.   Embarrassed     I am in violation of the rules concerning car swapping. I set a time in the BRM but could not get a handle on the beast and decided it would be dangerous to drive in the race. I grabbed a Ferrari and started the race. I did not do a good job of reading all the rules, in fact I only read the Works page and thought you could change cars going by the Token system. Just came across the actual rules page and ugh... I see I should have done my homework.

Grats to Hristo, Art, and Sam on he podium.

A couple of spins for me but otherwise not a bad result. Thanks for the race

Peace

An awful race for me guys, lots of problems that I tried to solve hours before the practice time but I've not been able to complete the job.
I've installed GPL and all the necessary backing up my folders on my home PC but when I was at my girlfriend's home the restore process told me something was not right so part of the backup has been not completely restored on the new PC  Tongue Sad and I then knew something strange was happening this evening. In facts, I completed the necessary when the practice for the GP was already started and...there was not such a thing functioning (also if was functioning 1 minute early)...damn...panic. What happened I don't know but, like last resource, I did what a normal programmer must do when anything doesn't function...shutdown and restart the PC Smiley and...OK, all went good then (or at least so it seemed to).
Entering the server the 1st things I've not seen were all my setups...where they are ?!?! I said, but at last I've made one on the fly with obvious results...car undriveable and with behaviour completely different from the one at my home PC. So I've been able to complete only one practice lap for the starting grid but it was not necessary because I was starting from the last position.
I didn't recall very well about rolling starts or other stuff but I followed the crowd for the 1st entire lap and I've tried to stay far from the accidents and I almost did it right untill Arf^3 remembered me that there was something bad incoming. I maintained my straight line while he was passing me but I've seen his left train coming closer to me from right side approaching to T1R and then I was suddenly rolling upside down. Fortunately I've landed on the wheels and so I have been able to continue the race.
I was fighting with my car more than once to keep it on the track and at least in 2 circumstances other 2 drivers unfortunately were getting close to me when I did a bad maneuver. I'm speaking about Sky and EvilClive.
The 1st driver was very much near me when I've had a spinout exiting from a corner and so he has been involved. The second one during the main straight, trying to leave him the racing line while I was lapped, probably he didn't expect my quick move because when I've seen him in my mirrors I moved out from the race line but probably doing so I've surprised him, so he reacted badly in such a way that he has lost the control of his Honda going out of track and loosing a wheel just during one of the last laps. I'm very sorry for these 2 accidents in which I've involved those drivers. In particular for EvilClive, I've tried to push him to the finish line because I thought he had the engine out but, he preferred to ditch maybe for the rage I think.

It happened right in front of me. Evil was already moving to the right to pass you, you could have looked into your mirrors, see him there and keep your line. Instead you moved to the right and what's worse, you started slowing down, so he had to react to avoid you and that led to his retirement. I've been preaching for years now that backmarkers should act predictably and not move over in the last moment, nor slow down excessively, but I guess it falls on deaf ears.

Yes, but it is not completely true what you said.
It was at least from 10 laps to go that I had problems to my engine and I was very slow to get to the finish line so this was my speed at that moment and...I inadvertently decreased the volume of my head phones so while I was looking for the volume knob, I've been surprised when I've heard the sound of an engine just behind me and I immediately tried on to free the racing line but I've just had the time to see Evil try to avoid me hitting the wall...that's all. It was better if I remained along my line.

Yes, but Evil couldn't have known you had such problems. From his point of view you suddenly slowed down on a straight that is normally taken flat out, in addition to moving to the side right into his path. Before you slowed down, you had much stronger acceleration, which is why he didn't make a move to pass you earlier. If you had problems, you could have either cruised off the ideal line earlier, or as you say, you should have just kept the ideal line and let Evil do the pass which he was attempting to. I was quite fortunate that I was a hundred meters further back, because that could have been me in his place and retire from the lead.

Sure, it could have happened to you. Anyway, since I was slow from 10 laps to go, all drivers have lapped me more than once and you too obviously. Did you have had any problem lapping me ? Another thing is...I had no pribluda functioning so I didn't have any cue about which driver was in front nor behind me, and the pit board shown me a driver 10 or more laps behind me (maybe ditched but still on track).

Yes Sergio, you took out the wrong Honda, that wasnt the plan we had before the start was it  Grin Grin Grin? Incidentally, I think Clive retired because he went looking for one of his wheels...

My race was hard work and really one of the most fun I had. Disappointed not to have been able to keep up with that one Itcho, but I reckon the gap wouldnt have been that big had I not been harassed all the way by a rather tenacious eagle, fluttering behind my back and occasionally just in front of my nose..Truth is though, in order to give H a race, even in his Honda, I would have needed one more half a second into my pocket; will set off and try to find that for the next ones  Wink. WD Hristo for a come back in style, looking forward to the rest of the championship.

As said, I had a brilliant scrap with Sam all race long. I think after a couple of races spent battling together, I reached the conclusion we both belong to the category of the 'lazy competitives': full focus when in recovering mode, sit and enjoy when in front..very bad, needs some serious rethinking I bet  Grin. I let him catch up around lap 10 although I had the pace in my car, and even let him by with a small excursion on the grass at the second to last corner. Fortunately, Sam decided to kindly oblige a few laps later, with a quick 360 which allowed me in front again. From then on it was just a run to the flag, with some quick final laps that put paid to the match. Really intense racing, thanks guys. Also, it was brilliant to see such a full grid, hope we can keep it up for the reminder of the season.

See you all in Spain in a couple fo weeks.
