Moderator's Report

A really closely fought race for the opening round of Season 23.

No reported incidents in this race although I did notice a couple of cars at the tail of the field exchanging paint samples on lap 2??!!

Once again the GT's seem to be making the moderator's job quite easy with just the check on the pitstop times to do for each race...and YES!! I do watch each car into and out of the pits and check the timer!!

Season 23 is upon us and the first of the GT Team races is at Silverstone.  There has been some shuffling of drivers between the teams as plain brown packages change hands in shadows behind the pits. There are some new teams and some old teams with new members, but the star drivers in GT's are all present and looking for podiums.

As we avoided many lap 1 incidents last year we will still have rolling starts and the details for this race are below.

This season we are trying to add some extra fun and tactics to the races with the introduction of pitstops which are calculated to bring the racing closer in the final laps. In every race there will be one car that does not need to stop, but all of the other cars will have to visit the pits.

Teams can choose to run any cars they like, but in any race each all team members must drive different cars, so only one driver can drive the car that does not need to stop.

Pit stop times are listed below with a choice of a single long stop or two shorter stops... the choice is yours.

THIS RACE WILL HAVE A ROLLING START AND CARS ARE EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN THEIR GRID POSITIONS FOR THE FIRST LAP. THE POLE CAR WILL LEAD THE PACK AROUND AT A STEADY SPEED AND RACING WILL START AS CARS CROSS THE START/FINISH  LINE AT THE END OF LAP 1.

First Pit Window is: 27 (to go on your pit board) to 18 (to go on your pit board)
Second Pit Window is: 25 (to go on your pit board) to 9 (to go on your pit board)

Some useful information about pitstops. If you unsure about anything please post  a question and we will give you the answers.

1) We recommend the use of the small programme   "GPL WAIT"   .....link here This will time your stop for you and is simple to set up and operate.

2) Pitstops must be taken by coming to a halt in YOUR pitbox. That means where there is a black board with your racing name on it in pit lane.

3) To be sure that you are correctly in your pitbox approach your name board carefully with your car close to the pit wall. Just when the board vanishes STOP and you are correctly positioned.

4) If your stop is LESS than 30 seconds you can be a little less precise with your position as GPL will not disco you automatically.
However, if your stop is MORE than 30 secs you need to be correctly parked in your pitbox otherwise at 30 seconds GPL will retire your car. THIS IS WORTH PRACTISING OFFLINE.

5) Stop n Go after a Shift-R must be taken as a seperate stop and cannot be combined with your mandatory pitstop.

6) Proirity in pitlane is given to cars that are moving. If you are about to leave the pits after your stop you MUST wait if another car is about to pass you in the pits.

7) Cars leaving the pits must stay OFF the racing line until they up to racing speed. Blocking cars that are still at racing speed will attract the attentions of the Moderators.

IMPORTANT!!!
Just Keep your GPLWait program open on desktop after you've set it up with the wait seconds needed and the keys necessary to activate it, otherwise it will not function during a GPL race.

I can say that I'll not be present if the football match England vs Italy will overlap the race. So keep in count there is an important sport event to schedule the race. This is the only occasion in which GPL can to give way to TV for me.

Thanks.

In view of the fact that there is a football match that seems to be attracting a lot of interest both in the UK and Italy on Sunday evening, I propose that we delay the start of this race so that both of these important events can be enjoyed by everyone.  Grin

I am thinking that we should postpone the start of the race by 30 minutes?  which should allow the match to finish provided we do not go into extra time etc.

I don't think we can reasonably schedule the race to something like a 22:30 start time that would cover extra time and penalties, that would be too late for many drivers by the time the race ends.

Would everyone ( OK, most people  Wink ) be happy with a 22:00 race start? It might mean that those who choose to watch the football would have only a few minutes of qually, but enough time to at least get onto the grid for the start?

I like football but where on earth did you get the idea that watching England play is enjoyable?

Ops, I see now that F2 will use T7 on Friday. I'll restart it on Igor with OpenGl_V2 after the F2 race.

So if I'm taking one stop can I use either pit window? i.e., can I stop anytime from 27 to go until 9 to go? Or do I have to use pit window 1 Huh

It should not, if you stop at your pitboard!
Slowly move forward until it goes away!

Did you use GPLWait program?
