Moderator's Report

As always at Rouen, Nouveau Monde sorts out the men from the boy racers...

Luckily the current crop of Novices are too wily to fall foul of the deadly polo infested hairpin...

Oh hold on

Server replay time: 0h01m26s

Giovani carries a bit too much speed into Nouveau Monde and rear ends an unfortunate Rog who ends up dead last. Gio should have been more careful on cold tyres. This would normally be a Blatant Rear End Shunt but Giovani does not seem to have been helped by a jerky connection - warp maybe but he should have allowed for that.

  • Giovani (g giovani)penalty — Blatant Rear End Shunt (Mitigated) + 1 place for Lap 1 Red Zone — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 0h01m28s

Billy, possibly put off by the flying Rog slides a bit wide and finds that French polos are really sticky. Nigel thinks that Billy isn't stuck firmly enough and gives him a biff just to make sure...

The second race of the Novices Trophy season takes us to France and the ancient city of Rouen. This track was not actually used in the 1967 season but was included in the original release as it was much more interesting than the real race location (Le Mans Bugatti). The track has some tricky bends with a mixture of very slow (Nouveau Monde hairpin) and high speed sweepers that makes nailing a setup tricky. Get close and you will have a chance.

The Novices will undertake 19 laps. For this race, there is no handicapping in line with the new handicap system.

Please check the Season 23 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular.

Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Novice Trophy races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the Lap 1 red zone will be moderated. Only reported incidents for the rest of the race will definitely be checked, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers are reminded that they must take a Stop'n'Go for every Shift-R. The Red Zone will extend to the Scierie corner which is the 90 degree right hander at the end of the long straight.

Please ensure you are aware of the new in-series penalties for this season. Details are here. Drivers incurring a penalty will receive a PM informing them of this."

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Wow - practice has been VERY frustrating. Varying between consistent 2:06s and then another session struggling to beat 2:08 or 2:09 and then spinning every four laps.

Aim for tonight is to:
a) beat 2:07 for qually
b) not require Shift/R through my own fault
c) average under 2:10 for the race

If I can do all that it will be good. We'll see.

Somewhere in my setup I had qualifying fuel for the race  :'( It now becomes clear why my car started running roughly each time I had completed about 4 laps

Cheers Nigel.

Praccy paid off but I did lose it twice at Scierie... managed my three aims though.

In qually tried to find a tow but couldn't keep it clean, followed Rog round for a while and then at the end I tried to lead him out for a quicker time but I span at the end of the esses <sigh>. Sorry Rog.

Ironically my quickest lap was set solo and after the race I kept going for a Prib lap and stopped the clock at 2:05.82 - doesn't count though and it would have easily been an FL.

Kept Rob honest for 3 and 3/4 laps until I put a wheel on the grass at Scierie. John passed me even though I managed to control the spin OK.

Chased him round and then  he was slow in the esses and I made a pass on, he disappeared and I was worried I had wiped his nose - turns out he was running out of fuel - I thought it was my brilliance at the time Wink

Then it was a case of trying to keep calm... I didn't. Gio was catching me steadily - a reverse of Imola but just as at Imola I made the mistake. I caught the paddle on my wheel when in full lock at Nouveau Monde and found N. Difficult to get away without a gear. That put him 50yds behind and I went defensive at Scierie but got it wrong.

Still ran second on merit this time rather than inheriting positions so pretty pleased.

Nice to see a fuller grid and welcome TheMayor - hope you enjoyed it.

Welcome back Phillipe and Al. Good to not see you in the race at all.

Finally well done to Rob - he was awesome.

Big congrats to the Podium, you guys where a class apart from the rest of us.

I’m please to say that my 100% record at Rouen is still intact. My record of liking the track but sucking at racing here. I think I paid the price for not enough practice, but even then I really don’t think I would have been close to the top 3.

In qualifying I never got a good lap, I never settled and never really got into the circuit as I should have. I did have 1 lap which was OK, but I was too busy looking at Prib and lost it on the last corner. During the race I was pretty much the same. My pace was terrible, I took it easy at the start, waited for all the temps to come to me, but then I just couldn’t go any faster, and when I tried I just ended up making mistakes. In the end it was a frustrating race for me, I should and could have been a lot quicker. I will practice some more, and hope that the next race will turn my fortunes around.

What happens now to the leaders? Will Rob get that BT7?

Will Rob get that BT7?

OH YES! (Not that it will make a jot of difference at Norisring - he might find it tougher at Spa so a tactical 12th place might be in order....  Grin)

I should have said thanks to Al Heller who gave me some coaching and a far more stable setup. Tried to let Nigel know but he still hasn't got his iGOR going Sad

Well it was really - it was a modified setup by 'Dark' (Stewart somebody, to whom grateful thanks). Interestingly the brake balance was pretty much the same but the cambers which I had between -0.6 and -0.4 where 0 on the right side and -0.75 on the right. I would never have tried that, but it was really stable, especially into Nouveau Monde. If you are interested in more details, let me know. It wasn't much quicker than what I had before but much more forgiving.
