Moderator's Report

Clean Red Zone - Ints show the Novices how to do it! Well done

Server replay time: 0h40m36s

Andreas has followed David for a few laps and finally gets close enough to get a decent tow. He tries to undercut David into Scierie but gets it badly wrong and ends up rear ending the Frenchman at his home circuit.

The rules have this: "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control." The question is whether Andreas lost control under braking but the replay shows no evidence of this so no mitigation is possible.

Drivers must always take responsibility for making a pass stick cleanly and the onus is on the driver doing the overtaking.

It was nice to see this discussed in a sporting way on the forum. It won't change the mod if you say "Sorry" but it might help the other bloke!

The second race of the Intermediates Trophy finds us in Normandy and the ancient city of Rouen. This track was not actually used in the 1967 season but was included in the original release as it was much more interesting than the real race location (Le Mans Bugatti). The track has some tricky bends with a mixture of very slow (Nouveau Monde hairpin) and high speed sweepers ( Gresil, Six-Freres) that makes nailing a setup tricky. Get close and you will have a chance.

The Intermediates will have 22 laps to show their worth. For this round, there is no handicapping in line with the new handicap system.

Please check the Season 23 pages for details regarding rules and the Intermediates Trophy pages in particular.

Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Intermediate Trophy races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the Lap 1 red zone will be moderated and reported incidents for the rest of the race, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers are reminded that they are limited to ONE Shift-R. The Red Zone will extend to the Scierie corner which is the 90 degree right hander at the end of the long straight.

Please ensure you are aware of the new in-series penalties for this season. Details are here. Drivers incurring a penalty will receive a PM informing them of this."

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Hi there,

don´t know if its the right place here( dunno where else?), but I want to say a big SORRY to Dave. Thought you were a bit slow/early on the brakes. But that's not to mean a excuse or something. I hit you from behind, so its my fault. Just before I thought like: "Yeah, good fighting. Like in the good old days!" And then I made a stupid error like that. Sorry again.

Hi quality stuff again, great speed everyone.

Started from the back, all looked clean from where I was, and had a great couple of laps with Fester early on.  Got a run over the S/F line enabling me to get ahead into T1, though a bit scary there rally to pass.  Thanks for the room.

I was then able to slowly pull a gap, though had no chance of catching the guys ahead. I'd learned in practice that I'd not the speed in the BRM that I might in the Lotus, but prefer to stick with the same car for series really.

Ended up with a few points again, and on lead lap.

Well done all, see you in Austria.

Great race.

Got away well and those behind tripping over each other, but Clutch was taking more than a second a lap out of me in the last few laps, had the race been a lap longer I would have been taken. Bit of a fluke.

Cool first race, Thanks all

I'll admit, Rouen is one of my favorite GPL Tracks so i tend to go Ok here. Whereas my last race depended on a crash ahead gifting me a podium, this one was more on actual race pace.

Managed to grab second on the grid and chased Gareth for a couple of laps. After a few missed gears coming out of the second hairpin i was passed and after over cooking it at the end of the straight i was passed again and down to about 5th i think.

Managed to claw my way back to 2nd and then gave it absolutely everything to try and catch Gareth. In the end it wasn't enough, so well done to him, infact well done to all Drivers. It seemed like there was some quality driving about.

My problem with Rouen has always been keeping it stable under braking at the end of the main straight, and yet again, my set up meant i struggled here. Shame, as its the only real passing place.

Thats my moment in the sun anyway at a track i love. The rest of the season will be more difficult as i'm no expert at the tracks we have coming up, though Spa is in my Top 5 favorites.

Incidentally, if anyone isn't using the Rouen historical update, then pop along to the Database or SMRZ and get it installed. It makes this track look even better.

Congrats again to Gareth on a fine win and Clutch for a solid second and commiserations to Dave.

Qualifying showed these two would be a hard act to follow and so it proved. Rouen is not one of my favourite tracks but I have to admit I really enjoyed the racing last night. Everytime I passed anyone they seemed to appear in front of me again. Okay so it had something to do with a couple of spins. One pushing too hard early on to catch Gareth and one due to an overtaking attempt on Andreas. Eventually I found myself in fifth chasing down Andreas and Dave for a shot at the last place on the podium. Unfortunately they had a bit of a coming together which resembled bonfire night and so I was gifted third without having to fight for it.

See you all at Salzburgring.

NB to the Mods. Sorry to be a pain, but if handicapping is going to be in force could we know asap as practice time is at a premium these days. I read somewhere that notification would be in the next race post. This is far too late for race setup slouch like me.

Respect to the podium boys who put in some amazing lap times. Unfortunately for me I went off at the end of the long straight & got stuck on one of the half tyres. There was a gap where I could have reset into the race but I tried to move it & by the time I realised it wasn't going to go I had to let the entire field pass by. Then an S&G. At times I was gaining on the last man but tried too hard & had a few brushes with the straw bales & fencing due largely to missing gears on braking. Lapped by the leaders & then the engine blew near the end.

Only highlight was I managed to hold off JB for a couple of laps early on, something I never managed to do last season in novices. Its always a pleasure to drive Rouen though so I enjoyed it.

OK that's racing !
I often raced with you, Andreas, in the GPLracer league and I know you are an excellent racer, so I was 100% confident.
But everybody can make a mistake.
By the way, I was braking exactly as usual ...and I think if my Lotus had no good settings to be quick on the long straight, I was able to brake very lately with it.
That's how I overtook Sky and another car.
From my point of view, you should have left the slipstream a few seconds before and tried to overtake.

Something else not related to this incident, I think Gareth and Cclutch have definitively not their place among Intermediates.
Just compare their best times to the best times of Professionals  : only Tristan Bot and Hristo are quicker !
Maybe they can continue with Intermediates but only driving Cooper or BT7.

If they get a lead David they will be handicapped.

Clutch stepped down this season so he has been (and is a Pro) but Pros is very unforgiving - no Shift R.

Gareth is very quick but inexperienced.

Just biff them out of the way and then send the moderator £10 Wink

Fair comment and i agree.  Smiley

I would fully expect a handicapping if this were to continue for me or any other Driver. Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but i'm more a Rouen and Spa specialist, certainly Rouen, and i'd be surprised if this form were to continue. I'd say Imola was pure luck, whereas you are right, Rouen was Pro pace.

Fancied dropping down a level from Pro as I don't get chance to practice GPL as much as i used to (though i love it just as much) and as a result I found myself plodding round on my own in the Pro's (previously the Ams) and found it getting tedious season after season. Not bothered where i finished, but just fancied some company on track. I did have a run of form in season 21 i think where i got the odd podium but i promise you, most of that was the result of plodding round at a snails pace and watching everyone throw it off the track without a reset. My other reason is to race with my team mate, NHance, who i haven't raced with since the early Nov days when we both got the game, so thought it may be good to have Mountside Racing Team represnted on the track at the same time..

My worst Nightmare is to drop down a level and dominate, but i think you'll see more Inter pace from me at the other circuits, purely as they're not all Rouen (unfortunately) and i think Inter is my true pace - which ranks with finishing between 8th and 15th in the Pro's, as i mostly did, apart from the (almost) last man standing podiums.

As ever, the Mods rule and i'm happy to abide by the rules they apply.  Smiley

wub Rouen , good racing in the early laps with J Jonny , we swopped places a few times as he really piled the pressure on , it all ended around lap 10 with an unscheduled  visit to the polos , soon after that I ran wide at the final turn and knocked a wheel off . A quick dash into the pits where my mechanic worked wonders and fitted new LH side  wheel and suspension in no time at all (think he moonlights for Quick fit ) It didnt last long as another off saw all his good work come to nought as Idamaged the shiny new bits again but was able to continue to the flag in Limp mode , sadly I didnt get to the line before the leaders came past to lap me  Embarrassed

Quick look at the replay saw lots of good racing throughout but definately split into 3 groups , those of us who were doing 2.08 2.09's laps those doing 2.06 , 2.07's and those up front who were just plain out of sight  Roll Eyes
