I had some very strange graphics issues tonight.

After 2 days of hell at work I was rather looking forward to immersing myself in some racing  Undecided, but it was not to be.

Initially, the whole graphic layout of Cerne's Wood was like some psychedelic experience with overlays of the scenery sliding past each other!!  Eventually I tried the old Open GL ( I usually have OpenGLv2 for everything) and at last things looked better, but then I could not get my screen resolution above 1200x1080??!! and the frame rat4s were dropping to 20fps and below when other cars were about!!

I tried I qually lap which was not too clever and started the race almost last ( that was probably a good thing I figured Roll Eyes) I fought the poor graphice and frame rates for 2 laps but inevitably things just got worse and I stuffed it into the woods and walked home  Sad

I did try a quick flit around Mosport back to my usual settings and everything was fine, so I am assuming that my Cerne's Wood file has got corrupted  and will re download sometime.

And here we go again... screen-freeze at the same time as Andreas & we both got booted off cursing Something was screwy during practice as several people kept discoing & I was getting occasional lag spikes, along with my Brabham wheel turning into a square shovel. I quit & rejoined a few times in order to get a normal wheel back but of course once I joined the grid for the start my wheel promptly turned back into a very offputting black square that obscured my rev counter Angry Still, I was chugging along quite nicely - had an exciting battle with Andreas & was up to 4th chasing Tim when the freeze occurred. Didn't we have a list of problem tracks? I suggest the "fixed" Brands67 & this one get filed under "unstable" thumbdown

(edit: I have found the steering wheel patch - hopefully that will sort the ol' square wheel issue?)

I had a freeze just leaving T1, but I think it was my own fault as I had forgot to turn the PhenomMsrTweaker off...
This track seems critical with 65s!?

Great race as long it lasted!

Poor frame rate here for first laps. After an off during a mini freeze things seemed to get better except my driving. While searching for more speed I found a tree instead and damaged the engine it seems. Gloomy track, gloomy race. Grats to the survivors.

Peace

A part a general CTD just a few seconds before the green flag, I didn't have any issue here, no freezes, no warps, nothing, I only made a mistake at T12R and I finished upside down beyond the fence. The End.
Nice race anyway.

Sometimes luck is your best asset in a race and this was one of them for me. It begun in quali when after some laps had a screen freeze. I manged to get back in time but I chose not to do any more laps because of the risk for another freeze. Then I turned down the detail bias even more, I think I was down to only like 10%. My position on the grid was way back but at least I was in the race and in 28 laps a lot can happen.

There are many ways to gain positions in a race and most of them came my way this time except passing another driver on the track in racing speed, it was close but Andreas just disappeared in front of me when I was planing my attack. Btw, nice to finally see you in the right division Andreas. Crashes, some due to PC trouble, discos, engine failure, you name it but it all came together for me and I was not even lapped by H this time.

I wonder if there has been some kind of inquiry about detail bias possible impact on screen freezes. Some time ago I heard that it might be a factor and after that I begun using very low detail bias in races and so far I have not had any screen freeze in a race after that.

So, how was your detail bias set in the race? Is it possible to find a pattern here?

Anyway I wish you all an enjoyable holiday.

That could be it, yes. I had 4 freezes in Qualifying and then decided to lower the details bar to 75% near the end of the session after my last rejoin, and didn't get any more freezes from there on. It could just be luck, but perhaps it really helps.

Thanks for the advice Goran. I was sure I used a low detail level but I just checked in GEM & it's on 97% Tongue What detail does it actually change anyway? Whenever I have used the slider I didn't notice any difference.

It makes the scenery and objects blur out closer to the view point, affected the Level of Detail (LOD) threshold point, but yeah, it's not really that noticeable.

One thing I've noticed very strange. At the green flag I've started convinced that my gear was adequate for my weight in order to have a fast start. Instead someone ruined my nice hair cut inside my helmet with a very strong gust overtaking me Shocked Huh Tongue Who was that guy Huh? I've thought...well, I will not say who was that guy but...his name begins with an H.  Grin

Göran

Hi there,
thanks for the advice.  Smiley But it looks not only that I finally found the right division but also the right league for GPL! Thanks for letting me a part of it.
On the Race side it went quit well with good battling  with Al until the Freeze/CTD. Will try that Reducing-Thing too.
So long
Andreas
