Moderator's Report

Another pole for Attilio Artiglietti but still no victory as a heartbreaking last lap error let in Ronnie Peterson for his second win in a row. Doni Yourth took a good third place after surviving the early skirmishes.

Server replay time: 0h01m04s

Hristo runs wide in the esses, followed by Bob. Both spin and resume without hitting anyone, but Ronnie slowed to avoid them and carnage ensued behind, with Arf, Bartosz, Andy and Sky all involved.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m38s

Hristo is following Doni on the approach to T7. Hristo brakes later than Doni and rear ends him, losing his left front wheel in the process. Doni continues unscathed despite getting airborne.

Doni was cautious under braking but this was the opening lap, and he didn't brake much later than the average for the lap, having studied the other drivers. Hristo braked later than most but as one of the faster drivers that is to be expected. It is hard to find any mitigation and Hristo should have been more cautious in the early stages of the race.

Sorry, Doni, I locked my front wheels over the bump and couldn't stop on time, plus I was expecting you to brake a bit later.

Was slightly horrified to find myself Q5 in the Honda. Had assumed the combination of taking the pig, which I drove for the first time in Qually, and having only ever managed half a dozen laps of this track (in the Coop) a few days ago in the Coop, would see me starting at the back of the grid.... I only managed 2 good laps in Qually as I struggled to learn the track and the Honda which I've only raced once before.

Anyway, it didn't last long. on L1 H and Baab both seemed to overcook the tricky 3rd(?) bend and span back onto the track. In the ensuing chaos, I got caught by Ronnie as he tried to avoid the carnage/by me not being able to stop. Then, whilst stationary I got rear ended by a red car. The rear ending ruined my engine which lost its top speed.... That said, I seemed to be doing better than Doni and S, both of whom I was able to drive away from, but I wasn't surprised when the engine expired on Lap 3....

Disappointing evening. I watched the race for a bit and when I left it there were only 3 cars racing and a very sick Doni doing his best.....

Well, I suppose you are bound to have some of these in your CV, still this must be the most disappointing race I have driven so far. Lead from flag to well into the last lap, then spun and let Ronnie run away with it. I soon realised that there had been some mayhem at L1, and when I saw Hristo out and Ronnie well behind, my two main contenders in qually, I thought I had it in the bag, just needed to bridge 50 rather dull minutes avoiding mistakes or engine blows. Well, that was some misjudgement indeed. First Bob reeled me in and fortunately (for me) managed to spun it just after he had passed. Tough luck there Bob, but believe me I managed to do worse than that  Grin Grin. Then it was Ronnie's turn, who took advantage of my cautious (napping  Roll Eyes?) pace in the last 10 laps, by the time he had reached me my tires had gone back into the blue, temp wise, and there was no way to make the car turn in those slow 1st gear corners. At the beginning of the last lap I thought I needed to build some kind of gap before the slow turns of S2, as otherwise I was going to find myself easy prey in the long straight. Net result, a rather slow motion  loss of control in the esses, spin, hit the wall, and watch the win motoring away. How ludicrously stupid  Hit with a wet fish. Very glad I dont need to worry about keeping my seat next season  Grin Grin. Truth is, I was rather slow in the race, so grats to Ronnie for his second well deserved win of the season, to podium (well done Doni for soldiering on), commiserations to the non finishers (everyone else!), hope the low attendence is just momentary slump. See you at the next one guys, thanks for the racing, especially to Paul, who I think couldnt race tonight, in order to host the Works race in an emergency.

Sorry Paul you couldn't race. I posted on Privaters about both servers cause I didn't see this thread.

My race started poorly, improved a lot but ended in disappointment.  H and I both seemed to misjudge the 3rd corner and went off in tandem, must have underestimated the cold tyres.  Really sorry for the ensuing carnage, I saw that Andrew ended-up upside-down and several others sustained damage.

After another off-track moment I set off in pursuit of Attilio with Ronnie close behind.  I made steady progress, momentarily halted by an itunes update robbing me of sound.  When safely on a straight I managed to alt+tab four times back to GPL and restore my sound (pesky updates have put paid to previous races).  After about 18 laps I finally managed to reel Attilio in and pull a gap on Ronnie.  Attilio seemed to run wide into the tight left at the end of the roller coaster bit (or perhaps you had a different, wider line) and I unexpectedly found myself side by side mid corner and squeezed past.  However my joy was short lived as I got the back end going too much for the next braking area, spun into the barrier and ripped my right front off.  Gutted  Shocked.

I had strong pace in the Lotus but was trying to drive within myself rather than on the ragged edge...still find it a challenge to concentrate for soo long!  It took me quite a while to fall asleep afterwards!

See ya in Spa,

Bob.

A wild, crazy and bizarre race!

I've been quite ill with a head-cold since Saturday morning and will be back with a commentary when I feel a little better.
