The Intermediates Trophy comes back to Europe and the site of the 65 French Grand Prix. Built in 1958 around the sides of an extinct volcano, the originally 8.055 km (5.005-mi) long Charade was described as an even twistier and faster version of the Nürburgring. Some drivers like Jochen Rindt in the 1969 French Grand Prix complained of motion sickness, and wore open face helmets, just in case. But 1970 was no better for him - Rindt was hit in the face by a rock, something that the circuit was usually littered with, and often caused punctures on the track. Luckily we don't get the rocks but motion sickness is a possibility!

Turns and twists and then corners and then some turns and then some twists - ooh a straight... the Inters get an extra lap - 12. More chances to get it wrong.

In line with the new handicapping system, only the series leader is chassis restricted. The others are too distant to require it! BT7 shouldn't prove too much of a handicap with only corners to contend with... sort of Sad

Please check the Season 23 pages for details regarding rules and the Intermediates Trophy pages in particular.

Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Intermediate Trophy races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the Lap 1 red zone will be moderated and reported incidents for the rest of the race, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers are reminded that they are limited to ONE Shift-R. The Red Zone will extend to the exit of Malmedy if your Moderator mixes up his posts - look below smart alecs!

Please ensure you are aware of the new in-series penalties for this season. Details are here. Drivers incurring a penalty will receive a PM informing them of this."

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Maybe you have not the right Clermont.dat file in directory tracks/Clermont.

I think the best would be to re-install the track.

Shame Ronnie; I could have lent you mine.  I'm sure you'd have done much better with them.

Went off just before the hairpin over reacting to Bernie getting a bit squirrely in front of me, as my arm is still in cast I'm cautious on reacting too quickly and pulling anything. The car went over the edge and tumbled to the track below upside down. I had no idea if I was blocking the track so quit rather than risk trashing anyones championship.

One of these days I'll get past lap 1.

Sorry about that Steve , lost it under braking , caught the banking and launched skywards , fortunate to land unharmed ( apart from me pride ) unlike yourself , that was the only exciting part of te race for me , never saw another car and my speed was hopelessly slow so no chance to catch the leaders , thought I would carry on to the finish in the hope everyone else would DQ or something .

My setup was hopelessly wrong , gears maybe ?

should have stayed in Blackpool at least the beer there is better than that froggy stuff  Smiley

No worries, Bernie. I massively over reacted to it just super cautious at the moment. I'm OK running on my own but get another car around me and I get twitchy.

Away a couple of days so writing this without seeing a replay. That was a pb in qually but still not fast enough. Bad luck Ronnie. Well done Podium & particularly Clutch. When Martin was behind I didn't contest the place too much  but there then folowed a good few laps being chased by Dave Rainer which I did contest as hard as I could. I pulled about 2 seconds out in the 1st 3 sectors & he got it all back in the last one - easily Sad. Almost inevitably eventually I made a small mistake braking in the last sector & he was through & proceeded to pull out 5 seconds each lap in the last 4 laps. so I must have been holding him up everywhere! Huh
Perhaps my previous 2 results flattered to decieve as the saying goes so this was down to earth with a bump. Gonna have to think hard about my car choice for Silverstone - oh AND practice a lot as well. Grin

I think we got our moneysworth out of this Mountaineering coarse, although I suffered a late fall. Undecided

A good start meant a rapid climb to third behind Norm, who generously let me by, as we pitched into the 1st hairpin on lap 2.  And thereupon, with the leader in sight, I decided to take the 'Hell for leather' approach, to clutch back his lead.  I easily surpassed my PB, and with difficulty, traversed the gap by mid-race.

My bid for 1st place, came at the final corner on lap 6.  This tricky move involved an attempt at an outside pass.  But being a guest driver this Season, I left lots of room and so, found myself caught up in a brief argument over who should lead, with a haybale at the edge of the track.  The dispute continued with Hendy, now intent on claiming 2nd.

Edging towards the end, David joined in the discussion, and it became a tremendous three way battle.  After he'd ascended, I'd still hopes of surmounting the podium, and clung desperately onto 3rd.  Until with the summit almost in sight, I coughed, and the engine revs dropped.  GRUMBLE!  One had become bereft of Benzine, on the last half lap! Angry

It's an unpleasant duty to have to pit, yards from the finish line.  Highly horrible and so near the pinnacle, but what a great race!  Grin

Grats to the podium of Clutch, Dave and Hendy. Also well done to that man Martin in fourth. Your appearance is appreciated as turn out again was on the low side. Even so I feel guilty picking up reasonable points even though I did not get off the start line!! See you all at Silverstone.
